I’m not sure how this historical element has been overlooked so much among the many discussions of a new Massachusetts flag design. The following information is collected from the wooden statue’s Wikipedia page:
- The Sacred Cod is a four-foot-eleven-inch (150 cm) carved-wood effigy of an Atlantic codfish, painted to the life, hanging in the House of Representatives chamber of Boston's Massachusetts State House—"a memorial of the importance of the Cod-Fishery to the welfare of this Commonwealth" (i.e. Massachusetts, of which cod is officially the "historic and continuing symbol"). The Sacred Cod has gone through as many as three incarnations over three centuries: the first (if it really existed—the authoritative source calling it a "prehistoric creature of tradition") was lost in a 1747 fire; the second disappeared during the American Revolution; and the third, installed in 1784, is the one seen in the House chamber today.
What do you think?

This is a film about the New Zealand Land Wars, the siege of Orakau specifically during the Invasion of Waikato in the 1860s. I recognise the other flags the rebels have as real flags or at least based on real ones, but not this, white handprints on a black flag.
Tried looking it up but couldn't find anything similar, I know hand symbols are popular among the followers of the Ringatu Maori church in the modern day tho. And people of the Ngai Tuhoe tribe (where most Ringatu are from I believe) were in this battle/film so part of me wonders if it is based on that? but idk.
I dont think hand print was a popular symbol among rebel Maori at the time also.
So yeah, this a real flag or just made for the movie?

Saw this on Instagram and have no clue what the green flag is. I know the blue one is for Crimean tatars.

There are almost all countries, and I can see flags or national flags that have now disappeared or changed.

This are flags I made for OC micronations I concieved yesterday for a possible story to write in the future.
All these micronations are found very close to each other, as their activities and conflicts converge in the fields around the Balze del Valdarno, a beautiful formation of steep hills in Tuscany.
Also keep in mind that these are meant to be micronations founded for fun by early/late teenagers, and their various wars are fought using all sorts of things: Bamboo sticks, slingshots, airsoft weapons (think of it like a "War of the Buttons" scenario, if you've seen the movie).
So, the first one is the flag of the Arme delle Balze for the micronation founded at Pian di Scò, in Tuscany, where a small group of friends passionate about art, history and outdoors joined together to defend (have exclusive access to) their surroundings, the closest to the Balze, between the hamlets of Faella, Pian di Scò and Castelfranco di Sopra. This faction fights the other two mostly defensively, and they resort to guerrilla warfare almost always. It was founded to retaliate against the Grinta, who harassed them regularly in the past.
The second one is the flag for the Sacred Republic of the Valdarno, a micronation founded next to the Arme, right across the Arno river and the Highway of the Sun, in the ex-commune of Figline Valdarno. Here, another larger group of friends passionate about the military, history, outdoors and fishing have birthed a democracy (which isn't actually that democratic).
This group often crosses the river and goes trekking and fishing near the Balze, causing the instinctive aggressive response of the Arme, who believe them to be just like the guys of the Grinta and have thus brought them into conflict (or perhaps because they just wanted to add another player into the fold out of boredom).
Last but not least (having initiated the conflicts), the Grinta of Tosi.
This officially became a micronation only after it witnessed the formation of the other two, even though it technically was the first organized group to exist. The Grinta is a group passionate about bikelife, and they love to cruise through the countryside aboard their scooter, motorcycles, karts and even simple bikes, causing great ruckus and acting brashly towards anyone different from them. They eventually developed a habit of picking on the younger members of the group of Pian di Scò, a situation which eventually prompted them to found the Arme and initiate a guerrilla campaign in self-defense against the bullies coming from the barbarous north (hamlet of Tosi, Province of Florence).
*The tendency for conflict between these groups of friends could also be attributed to the historical Tuscan tradition of conflict between cities. In this case, the historical rivalry between Arezzo and Florence could have been one of the causes.
*The idea of creating micronations came spontanously in the Arme and the Republic, with inspiration coming from their passions and other micronations abroad. The Grinta began regarding itself a micronation in order to be on par with the other two.
*The factions fight alternating their battles, and EXCLUSIVELY in the weekends, though small - inconclusive - skirmishes are allowed in the weekdays
*I didn't make the base for the last flag. I found u/AcceptableTeach5838's Mongol flags on the Kaiserredux sub. +The first flag (as can be noted) is just a recoloured and more detailed Cross of Burgundy.

Canterbury is a 'region' of New Zealand.
Fun fact: In the early 1900s, Christchurch professor Alexander Bickerton staged naval battles with real explosives on an artificial lake at his Wainoni property. His pleasure gardens attracted thousands to watch mock shipwrecks and rescues. This enthusiastic showman was also Canterbury College’s first chemistry professor and Ernest Rutherford’s teacher, Rutherford being the physicist who discovered the proton and is considered the founder of nuclear physics. The largest city in Canterbury, Christchurch, also had a payrolled wizard on their council between 1998 and 2021.

Obligatory “the place I am from desperately needs a flag redesign but nothing on this sub spoke to me” post. I am no graphic designer, so please be gentle.
Instead of a comment, I’ll just talk here… - Bottom of the shield of arms with the maple leaves replaced with trilliums…I think it’s cute. It’s a nod to the coat of arms while being uniquely Ontarian - Loyalist crown…to reference the Loyalists. Although, to a lot of Ontarians, crowns no longer represent the Crown (tm), but rather provincial associations. So, it is nice to add regardless. - Colour scheme…similar to the original. I see the original flying every single day. A similar colour scheme would cause the least whiplash.
As for the actual compositions I have (Reddit may mess with the order like it did the first time I tried to post this, but)… - The one I like the most, the one with the thin stripes on the sides. - The Canadian Pale, which looks super empty to me. I wanted to add something like a gold ribbon wrapping around the back of the middle stripe? Not sure. - The “me messing around with composition randomly” one. It actually looks kind of cool, thoughtlessness aside.
I tried other colour schemes and none seemed to work as good with what I had, but obviously I did not try everything and there could be a magical combination I did not stumble across. What do you guys think?
And elements…I wanted to add more things, but I didn’t want to be too on the nose. And fitting more elements into the composition would have been a very difficult task that I do not have the skill for.
Ok. Thank you for coming to my Ontario TED talk. Please be nice.

(QUESTO POST È STATO FATTO PER GIOCO, NON HA ALCUN SCOPO POLITICO O IDEOLOGICO. SIAMO TUTTI FRATELLI E CONVIVERE IN BACE È BELLISSIMO!)

Otago is a 'region' of New Zealand.
Fun fact: In 1978, a pride of circus lions once disrupted a rugby game in Simpson Park, Lawrence, Otago, causing an incident with interested crowds compelling the police to shoot the lions out of fear for the crowd's safety.

I know that some people won't like this, but I wanted it to be similar to real-life native american flags, not to be visually appealing to me in particular.
The 8 red lines represent the 8 bands of the Pasin nation, red to represent that all people in the nation have underwent hardships and the blood spilt from colonization.
The green square in the middle represents the Pasin peoples' connection to nature, while the four circles with symbols represent the sky gods: Sun, Moon, Cloud, and Wind.
The central bear head shows the main Pasin god, Aǫtem, who represents victory, strength and hunting.
