Hope you all appreciate the title because I'm a HUGE fan of How I Met Your Mother! And before anyone asks, I AM NOT A SINGLE DAD. Just a guy who appreciates a good love story and is hoping his own doesn't take nine seasons to figure out.
Hey everyone! I'm William, 26, based around White Rock / Surrey and working in Vancouver. Figured I'd give this a shot because apparently meeting your future wife doesn't happen by accidentally bumping shopping carts at Superstore like it does in rom-coms. Though honestly, I'm still holding out hope.
A little about me!
- Canadian, half Japanese and half Taiwanese, and grew up in Hong Kong. A bit of an international mix!
- Around 5'11", fit, dark hair, glasses. Someone once told me my dad and I look like young Jackie Chan. I'll let you be the judge.
- British / Aussie accent. Yes, I get comments about it. No, I won't apologise for saying "mate" or calling someone a muppet in traffic.
- Work in Technology Services, with a background in robotics engineering.
- Photographer, creative, and the guy who will probably take 47 pictures of you during a date because the lighting is good and you look cute.
- Proud owner of an 80s Porsche. Basically, I'm slowly evolving into a classic car dad before I've even become an actual dad.
- Huge fan of 80s music, movies, night drives, spontaneous adventures, and discovering little places worth revisiting.
- A sucker for romantic movies, especially The Notebook and classic rom-coms. Yes, I will happily watch one with you. No, I won't pretend I don't enjoy it.
- Coffee enthusiast. I'll remember your usual order, although I reserve the right to judge you lovingly if you put something questionable in it.
- ENTP, which basically means I can debate absolutely anything, get excited about random ideas, and somehow turn a five-minute conversation into a two-hour discussion.
- A fast, responsive texter. If I'm interested in you, you'll know. I'm not a fan of playing games or deliberately leaving someone wondering where they stand.
What am I like as a partner?
I'd describe myself as an old-school gentleman with a playful side. I'm the sort of guy who'll remember the little things you mention, bring you your favourite coffee, show up with food after a long day, plan thoughtful dates, and make sure you get home safely.
I'm big on acts of service, affection, quality time, and making the person I'm dating feel appreciated. I might tease you relentlessly once we're comfortable, but I'll also be the first to check whether you've eaten, ask how your day went, or offer to help when life gets overwhelming.
I work in emergency communications IT, so I can probably handle a crisis without panicking. Whether I can handle you stealing all the blankets is another matter entirely.
I'm naturally quite expressive when I care about someone. I value honest communication, reassurance, consistency, and being able to talk openly about what's on our minds. I'm not expecting someone to be available 24/7, and I understand that life gets busy. I just appreciate knowing we're both interested and making an effort.
I'm also pretty self-aware. I know I can overthink sometimes, especially when I care about someone, and I'm actively working on becoming more secure and communicating my needs in a healthy way. I'd rather be honest, listen, learn, and grow together than play it cool and pretend I don't care.
At the end of the day, I want to be someone's safe place, biggest supporter, favourite person to annoy, and partner in crime. Someone who feels comfortable being herself around me, knowing she doesn't have to earn affection or guess whether she's wanted.
So, what am I looking for?
Ideally, someone around 20–29 who's kind, loyal, affectionate, family-oriented, and genuinely looking for a long-term relationship.
I'm dating with marriage and a future family in mind, not looking to collect situationships like Pokémon cards. I'd love to find my best friend and future co-pilot: someone I can laugh with over the dumbest things, go on spontaneous drives with, spend lazy Sundays cuddling with, explore the world with, and eventually build a home and family together.
I'm a big believer that a relationship should be two people choosing each other, even when life isn't all sunshine and butterflies. My philosophy is pretty simple: we stay, we communicate, and we fix things together. I'm not expecting perfection, but I do believe in mutual effort, accountability, and being willing to work through difficult conversations instead of giving up the moment things get uncomfortable.
The little things matter to me: good morning and good night texts, random check-ins, thoughtful gestures, physical affection, quality time, and knowing we're both excited to be part of each other's lives. I want something where affection goes both ways, where we can be silly one minute and have a meaningful conversation the next, and where neither person feels like they're carrying the relationship alone.
I'm also a Christian with fairly traditional, family-oriented values. I'm not here to force anyone into a particular mould, but I'd love to meet someone whose outlook on commitment, family, and building a future is compatible with mine.
I've generally found myself drawn to non-Asian women, partly because of shared interests and the connections I've made, but I'm much more interested in genuine chemistry, personality, and compatible values than checking boxes on a list.
A few date ideas if we hit it off:
- Coffee somewhere cosy, followed by a bookstore or antique shop.
- A little photography adventure around Fort Langley, with absolutely no pressure to pose unless you want to.
- A sunset walk along White Rock Pier, followed by food and a drive with some good 80s music.
- A movie night where we debate which rom-com has the most unrealistic relationship expectations, then proceed to enjoy every minute of it anyway.
- Or a spontaneous little adventure where neither of us knows exactly where we're going, but the playlist is good and the company is better.
I'd prefer someone local to the Lower Mainland, since I'd much rather get to know each other over coffee than become pen pals for six months. I'm happy to take things at a comfortable pace, though. I'm not looking to rush into a relationship label before we've had the chance to build something real.
Your turn!
Tell me a little about yourself! What are you passionate about? What's your idea of a perfect first date? What's a movie you'll never get tired of watching? And most importantly, can you tolerate questionable dad jokes and someone randomly quoting HIMYM?
If you're looking for something genuine, affectionate, and a little bit goofy too, maybe we should see where things go.
Worst case, you get a funny story out of it. Best case, we become each other's favourite person and never have to use dating apps again.
