Advice Getting a midterm deferred(?)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, hope everyone is doing well.

I have a midterm tomorrow for my 4th year bio class however I don’t think I’ll be able to take it tomorrow. Yesterday my grandmother passed away and today my family and I are holding her funeral.

To be honest, I’m in no good mental state to take that midterm. It’s worth 15 percent but it was also a class I was enjoying as well. I’ve been taking care of my family and grandma for the last two weeks, barely giving myself the time to study. I would just complete my assignments last minute.

As a 4th year, it’s embarrassing that I still don’t know the process of deferring an exam, because I never had a reason to until today. I don’t know where to start and who to contact right now.

If any of you have advice then please help me.

Early Interview

• Upvotes

Thanks everyone for the advice in the last post I managed to get an interview offer last night!!

I think the main thing that helped is to lower my expectations as everyone said and apply to stuff that's not just Google and other faang companies. I ended up applying to less competitive companies like rbc, td, Scotiabank, bmo, etc... A bunch of banks. I applied to a lot in waterlooworks and a lot externally.

I ended up getting an interview for one of the banks idk if I'm allowed to say which but anyway only issue is, it's kinda early Friday morning. Like 9am which is right before one of my lectures. There weren't any other options for time slot and I'm a bit sad it's not Google.

Thanks again everyone for the advice, I appreciate everyone in this sub because I won't do weaccelerate

Discussion Does anyone know the name of this cute French boy?

Hi! I'm in ECE (Thursdays at 1 PM), and there's this cute French boy I always see in class. He's sooo dreamy! He has a goatee, wears Prada glasses, and often wears Lacoste. I also always see him with Core Protein drinks. If you know him, could you please give me his contact info? I wanna get to know him. :)

(First Year BTW)

Interest in Shibari Club (Japanese rope art) at UW

A few playmates and I are working on getting a shibari club off the ground. I wanted to see if there’s enough interest before we submit our application to WUSA.

For those unfamiliar, shibari is a Japanese rope-tying practice with a long history as both an art form and a technical discipline (like software engineering).

What we’re planning:

  • Monthly beginner workshops covering the fundamentals: basic ties, rope handling, and rope care
  • A strong focus on safety and consent
  • A collaboration with the Pure Math Club on the mathematics of knot theory
  • Fully clothed, non-sexual practice at all club events

Who it’s for: Anyone, no experience needed. We’ll provide practice rope for the first few sessions, so cost shouldn’t be a barrier.

If this sounds like something you’d want to try, please fill out the interest form here: https://forms.gle/J4cNaeobfoppFAsf9. We need a minimum number of signatures for ratification, so even if you’re just curious, sign up! You can also comment or DM me with questions.

We know this might raise some eyebrows, which is exactly why we’re posting this to reddit first. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Shitpost If I fail this CS midterm I will just drop out and marry Cobalt the Dinosaur

Title. I just am tired of looking at so many proposition symbols and doing Davis-Putnam procedure with n variables and thinking about Boolean algebras and Boolean rings and remembering the difference between tautological equivalence and syntactic equivalence. If I fail I will drop out and go marry Cobalt (he is clearly a professor and can thus financially support me) and we can buy a nice house or an apartment in a decent suburb like Burlington or Oakville. I think I deserve a nice life in Burlington or Oakville. I will find a job that is not evil and does not cause suffering and not vibecode solutions to a company that will try to replace minimum wage workers with AI solutions. We can go on nice brunches on Sunday and own tasteful pieces of art and perhaps adopt a human or (we use inclusive or here) dinosaur child. When he gets ragebaited by a first-year honours science student I will be there to comfort him. When I am struggling to fix our mid-range coffee machine he will hand me a screwdriver and tell me it is ok. Yes yes I know he is a dinosaur. The fact we are both male is not an issue. As an ambassador to the science faculty he will be very open-minded. Please, please. I go to this course that is 8:30 AM in the morning every Tuesday and Thursday. I attend tutorial on Friday. I answer the questions that the poor TA asks even though there is a single-digit number of people in the room. I even chuckle whenever the professor puts up a joke on the slideshow and asks why is this joke funny? in red. All I ask is that I pass the midterm or (we use inclusive or here) I marry Cobalt. I would think I deserve it.

Advice math 135 midterm grades ://

im sure there's been more posts about this- but this was like my first proper midterm in college and im genuinely disappointed- For assignments W1 to W3 I was scoring in the high 90s cuz well I could do them at my own pace (made very minimal use of AI, genuinely). Even in the first proper quiz, I got an 85% which ensured me that I'm on the right track- and honestly I thought my midterm didn't go bad at all- I was expecting 70 minimum but ended up with a crazy 60.7- im a crazy 11% below the class average which is wildddd because that wasnt the case for the prev quiz and assignments- i did not expect this at all because I'd genuinely studied for it- i do believe that marks were cut for miniscule things but im sure thats how its been graded for everybody- idk if i should request a regrade (idk if there's much scope for an increase, is checking more lenient during regrading or nah?), idk how i should deal w this because im genuinely so mad-- this is especially disappointing because its literally the first one that i got back and this is really not the way i thought it would be- any advice/thoughts?

Where can I find a stapler in campus?

Someone stole the stapler in Davis Centre recently and now all my notes are a mess. Seriously where else can I find a stapler? Ridiculous how a world-class uni can't even offer staplers to students in the library

Advice for math135

Hello

I got my midterm back and I got a 18.5/40 which is 46%. When I checked the solutions I saw that I was marked wrongly for two questions, 1. For a true and false question. 2. For stating the conclusion which I wrote exactly what the solution had.

Im just wondering for some advice whether I should just take the risk of regrading my whole exam for those two points. If the exam was marked correctly I wouldve gotten a 50% which I would feel better as 50 is at least a pass. But then again if request a regrade there is such a gamble of whether the grade will go more down.

What do you guys think? Feeling hella defeated
