Miscellaneous I feel so alone.

First thing first, I’m not looking for friends here, this is me just venting. I’m an intl student and I lost 3 friends this sem. I was usually pretty occupied with my classes but now that it’s SWOTVAC I legit don’t have anyone to study with. Whenever, I’m at any library, all I see is that most ppl have companion to study with. Again, not looking for friends on here, I don’t really find that sustainable but maybe just some words of wisdom will do ;)

Miscellaneous Is higher ed going down the toilet because of arrogant execs?

I feel like it is. So much entitlement at the exec level, massive wages for execs, corruption, not keeping up with the evolving world etc etc. Uni execs complain about govt, Teqsa etc but I feel they’ve done it to themselves through being arrogant and forgetting their purpose of serving communities

Miscellaneous How does your share house handle groceries?

Curious how other houses do it. One big shared shop that gets split, everyone buys their own, or somewhere in between?

We cook a lot at ours, and keeping track of who bought what (and what's already in the fridge) is harder than it should be.

What's worked for you?

Admission and Transferring Master of speech pathology offer

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had received their unconditional offer for the Master of Speech Pathology. I got a conditional offer in September and submitted all my final transcripts and haven’t received a reply yet. Just wondering if they are a bit slow this year in general or if it’s an issue with my application :)

Miscellaneous Traveling to Sydney and gold coast

• Upvotes

Hey! I’m 20f, and I’m planning a trip to explore more of Australia next month. I’m planning on going to Sydney roughly 3-5 days, Gold Coast 3-5 days and Brisbane 1-2 days, around Nov 9 to 25.

I’m hopping to find someone to travel with for this trip. I do plan on traveling a bit of a budget, staying in hostels and buying groceries then eating out all the time. If you are interested I would love to chat to see if we would be a good match.

Let me know if you’re interested or planning something similar.

Hey guys, my first ever unimelb exam is coming up pretty soon and I just wanted to know how its going to be on the day. It's at royal exhibition so i wanted to know approx how much earlier i should arrive and what exactly are they going to do before the exam. Like do I just walk in or are there preliminary checks or something else I'm missing etc. Also when will they check my student card, where do we store our stuff (can we keep it under our desk like for the msts). Thank you

Examination Psychology Capstone: Theory and Practice PSYC30021

• Upvotes

Has anyone here taken this subject last year or the year before? I’m feeling extremely anxious and frustrated about it right now! There’s just so much content to memorise, and apparently the actual exam questions aren’t necessarily taken from the practice questions either!
Could anyone who took this subject in previous years tell me how different the actual exam questions were from the practice questions? Was the exam difficult? And how was the timing? Did you have enough time to finish everything, or was it really rushed?

Support What WAM did you need to externally transfer into Unimelb for Start Year Intake? (BCom / Science)

TLDR: what WAM do I need to get into unimelb commerce start of year

Hey everyone,

Looking to get some realistic insights from people who have successfully done (or attempted) an external course transfer to UniMelb for a Start Year (Semester 1 / Feb) intake.

If you transferred in externally (or know someone who did):
1. What course did you transfer into (and from where)?
2. What was your WAM at the time of applying / offer?
3. How much did your secondary/ATAR results play a role (if you transferred after 1 year vs less)?
4. How seamless was the credit / advanced standing process once accepted?

I’ve heard Start Year intake generally has more places available compared to Mid-Year, but would love to hear real experiences on what WAM ended up being the safe range.

Support anyone else having a super hard time at formulating their Business of Music essay?

I got told this would be a WAM booster😭😭

Even if I get 100% on the 10 quizzes, this essay is going to be what kills my WAM

Support Ensloppification

What is the point of assignments anymore??

The whole assignment and marking scheme are blatantly AI generated by the subject coordinator and barely proof-read.

The vast majority of student submissions are obviously AI.

Why am I, the marker, the only actual person who has to read through this crap!?

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Anyone done SCIEN30002? Where did you find your internship (data science / AI)?

Hey all, I’m planning to do SCIE30002 and I’m trying to work out where to actually find a placement.

  • Where did you find your placement (Seek, LinkedIn, uni job board, cold emailing, connections)?
  • Did you approach companies yourself, or did the uni help?
  • Which companies or kinds of orgs were open to taking SCIEN30002 students?
  • Anything about the approval or sign-off process I should sort out before applying?

Happy to take DMs too. Thanks!

Support help: has my extension application been approved?

Thumbnail

update: i got 14 days instead of the 8 i applied for! thank you very much to everyone who double checked this for me, it helps quite a bit during such a period of unease and uncertainty in my life. i might leave this post up incase anyone else is confused in the future and needs help. i hope you’re doing well and enjoy the break in a few weeks time :)

original post:

hey everyone.

ive been having a very stressful time in my personal life (bereavement, funeral, family drama[legal], seeing an abusive parent after 4 years of legal protection from them) so i applied for an extension for two of my assignments due on nov 2.

i used the same documentation/etc for both - made one application for the two assignments. i received one email two days ago (i assume this was for only one of the assignments) that i needed to add more documentation to my application. however, today i received two emails (screenshots in post).

im stressed, grieving, and confused rn and im just not sure where everything is standing. please forgive me if it's obvious but im just a nervous wreck right now and would really appreciate if someone could confirm that these emails mean my extensions have been approved. i also don't know how many days i received - i applied for 8 but im not sure how to check if i have actually got them.

thank you heaps and i hope your swotvac week is going well <3

tldr: im confused and need clarification, could you please confirm that these emails are approvals of my extension applications (meaning
¡ have the extensions i applied for)?

(had to take down original post bc i accidentally doxxed myself 😁)
