What is the point of assignments anymore??

The whole assignment and marking scheme are blatantly AI generated by the subject coordinator and barely proof-read.

The vast majority of student submissions are obviously AI.

Why am I, the marker, the only actual person who has to read through this crap!?

Examination First examm

Hey guys, my first ever unimelb exam is coming up pretty soon and I just wanted to know how its going to be on the day. It's at royal exhibition so i wanted to know approx how much earlier i should arrive and what exactly are they going to do before the exam. Like do I just walk in or are there preliminary checks or something else I'm missing etc. Also when will they check my student card, where do we store our stuff (can we keep it under our desk like for the msts). Thank you

Miscellaneous How does your share house handle groceries?

• Upvotes

Curious how other houses do it. One big shared shop that gets split, everyone buys their own, or somewhere in between?

We cook a lot at ours, and keeping track of who bought what (and what's already in the fridge) is harder than it should be.

What's worked for you?

Support What WAM did you need to externally transfer into Unimelb for Start Year Intake? (BCom / Science)

• Upvotes

TLDR: what WAM do I need to get into unimelb commerce start of year

Hey everyone,

Looking to get some realistic insights from people who have successfully done (or attempted) an external course transfer to UniMelb for a Start Year (Semester 1 / Feb) intake.

If you transferred in externally (or know someone who did):
1. What course did you transfer into (and from where)?
2. What was your WAM at the time of applying / offer?
3. How much did your secondary/ATAR results play a role (if you transferred after 1 year vs less)?
4. How seamless was the credit / advanced standing process once accepted?

I’ve heard Start Year intake generally has more places available compared to Mid-Year, but would love to hear real experiences on what WAM ended up being the safe range.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Anyone done SCIEN30002? Where did you find your internship (data science / AI)?

Hey all, I’m planning to do SCIE30002 and I’m trying to work out where to actually find a placement.

  • Where did you find your placement (Seek, LinkedIn, uni job board, cold emailing, connections)?
  • Did you approach companies yourself, or did the uni help?
  • Which companies or kinds of orgs were open to taking SCIEN30002 students?
  • Anything about the approval or sign-off process I should sort out before applying?

Happy to take DMs too. Thanks!

Support help: has my extension application been approved?

update: i got 14 days instead of the 8 i applied for! thank you very much to everyone who double checked this for me, it helps quite a bit during such a period of unease and uncertainty in my life. i might leave this post up incase anyone else is confused in the future and needs help. i hope you’re doing well and enjoy the break in a few weeks time :)

original post:

hey everyone.

ive been having a very stressful time in my personal life (bereavement, funeral, family drama[legal], seeing an abusive parent after 4 years of legal protection from them) so i applied for an extension for two of my assignments due on nov 2.

i used the same documentation/etc for both - made one application for the two assignments. i received one email two days ago (i assume this was for only one of the assignments) that i needed to add more documentation to my application. however, today i received two emails (screenshots in post).

im stressed, grieving, and confused rn and im just not sure where everything is standing. please forgive me if it's obvious but im just a nervous wreck right now and would really appreciate if someone could confirm that these emails mean my extensions have been approved. i also don't know how many days i received - i applied for 8 but im not sure how to check if i have actually got them.

thank you heaps and i hope your swotvac week is going well <3

tldr: im confused and need clarification, could you please confirm that these emails are approvals of my extension applications (meaning
¡ have the extensions i applied for)?

(had to take down original post bc i accidentally doxxed myself 😁)

Ur so doomed if ur a CBSE board student coming to study Bcom here. Its like i have absolutely no idea wtf am i doing while i study for the upcoming exams. Finance and micro-eco are already so tuff and apparently i am giving both of these exams on the same day. I am like studying and studying with almost no idea what to study and from where to study and i am sitting infront of lecture slide for 4-5 hours straight and at the end i find myself with absolutely no progress. I AM DOOMED.

Subject Recommendations & Enquiries Study Load for 3rd Yr Commerce (Econ/Fin) Student

Hi,

I'm looking to get wisdom regarding the attached study load which I've planned for next sem. If anyone's completed these subjects (especially simultaneously) I'd love to hear how you went and if it was manageable.

For context, Sem1 2027 will be the start of my 3rd (final) year, doing a double major in Econ/Finance (72 ish WAM)

I'm also working about 15-20hrs a week all year round and play organised sport. This sem I did Basic Econometrics, Inter Micro, Comp & Strat and Music & Health and found that super manageable even with extracurriculars but next year seems like a big step up.

I'm doing an internship over the summer (only one day a week) and thinking maybe I should do a breadth over summer also just to make life even easier next year?

Anyway, any advice/experience/anecdotes much appreciated!

Examination How do every art student memorize all the notes ??????????

Hi, I am a science student, but for some reason I took one management course as my breadth subject this semester. I found it is really hard to memorize all the staff (is there anyone really could memorize all the notes???) As the final approaching, I felt that I am miscrowaved. Could I ask for some hints from people who ever took mamagement courses before? How do you prepare for the finals? (Especially someone who once took MGMT20002 before.) Or maybe please teach me a kind of memorise method. Thanks a lot!!

Admission and Transferring Second Bachelor Degree

A few people I know of finished Biomed or Science and started Commerce straight after. Would the WAM entry requirement be lowered and would it be easier to get in factoring in a completed degree? Does anyone know the minimum WAM to get in?

Also, if you haven’t done any commerce breadths, would you start entirely from scratch (excluding breadth) and have to complete 225 credit points?

Opportunities Is there still a chance for me to get into unimelb dentistry?

Hi guys, I’m probably overthinking this but I just wanna say it anyway.

I’m in first year, second semester at Melbourne Uni. My semester 1 WAM was 71. I’m probably not going to get H1 by the end of the year even though I’m maintaining a H1 in the second semester.

Still unsure whether DDS requires WAM or GPA, and what would a competitive WAM be?

I know I need the GAMSAT as well, what score would I need?

Atp I think I don’t mine paying full fee, I just want to get in😭.

I have an assignment that isn’t due until 7/11 but I’m currently ill, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and I’m planning to get an hpr filled and apply for an extension. Can I get denied because the due date is pretty far from now? Even though this is a pretty big assignment and it requires a lot of effort so I do believe I need an extension for the days of work I’m missing out on now.

Support The Business of Music Essay

I am very confused about the research essay...

Are we expected to formulate all sections or arguments based on concepts or ideas taught throughout the semester or can we have an argument built based on concepts or an idea from my own external research that is still relevant to the subject but not mentioned?

I am a first year international student and this type of very "open ended" essay is very new to me, do we have to formulate 3 arguments necessarily or is there other ways to do it? Like can you have 2 arguments and have the 3rd paragraph be the cause or result of it or have 2 arguments based on concepts mentioned in the lectures and 3rd one based on your own research? I have been to the 2 help sessions and still very confused.

I have emailed the subject coordinator but haven't got a response yet...
