Hi! I’d love to hear from current students or alumni about their experience with the CIR program!

A few things I’m curious about:

• How independent is the program? Do you mostly design your own curriculum?
• Is it heavily research-focused from the start, or is there room to build a foundation before diving into research?
• What do you think of the seminar-style classes?
• Knowing what you know now, would you choose the program again?

I'm a transfer student and im involved in a bunch of activities so i have a lot of acquaintances, but no actual friends. like i occasionally chat with people in and outside of class, but i dont hangout with anyone outside of that. i feel like even other transfers have already found friends and groups but ive never been invited to anything and every weekend and friday night i have nothing to do because everyone's out with their friends and i dont have anybody to do anything with.

Is there any Halloween parties happening on the 31st or any events?

I got in as a guaranteed sophomore transfer for the 2027-28 school year and am currently attending another 4 year college (george washington). If I stay at GW, I plan on studying international affairs and economics but I am becoming more interested in econ than IA. However, the opportunities from being in DC as well as the low tuition cost are tempting me to stay at GW.

I know that uchicago has been one of the most foundational universities in the field of economics, and ironically, my intl affairs, poli sci, and econ courses all constantly reference uchicago professors or scholars. In high school, it was genuinely one of my dream schools and I planned on majoring in economics or public policy.

Long term, I'm considering going to law school if I cant get a job after undergrad, or I will do an MPP or MBA but honestly nothing is set in stone.

I'm kind of scared to transfer because I've only heard negative things about the social scene + mental health issues, and even worse things for transfer students. I'm also not sure if I can handle the course rigor.

Does anyone have any advice to offer on whether or not I should transfer? I mentioned a lot, so feel free to focus on one or a few of my concerns.
