I'm planning on taking it next semester and I'm a little nervous about the micobiology/ chemistry and math equations of it lol. I'm in HECOL and I've taken courses that are in the faculty of science and other faculty classes that have science/ math components, it's just that a nutrition food science class is just a little out of my purview thus far lol. In your experience are these aspects somewhat advanced or more comparable to like high school math/ bio?

hello! i’m a first year and i’ve applied to transfer into a different program (psych to criminology if that’s relevant) and i was wondering if they hand out conditional acceptance after fall grades are released? or do they only start taking people in when fall AND winter grades are available? i’ve seen people say different things about whether you can snag a spot after first semester and i’m just a little confused, they said they need at least 24 credits to evaluate but will they look at fall grades and assume they’ll be similar to the remaining credits? also wondering if my chances of getting in are lower seeing as high school applicants can receive conditional acceptance with their grade 11 marks alone, pretty much right away, and my application is on hold until the winter :(. any help is appreciated!!

Does anyone know what the average was for the first midterm?

Hello everybody!
I have applied to the MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (2-year stream). I have a bachelors in planning from a university in another province with an accredited program, and an L2 GPA sitting around 3.3-3.4, not stellar for super competitive programs but not terrible either. I have professional experience doing work related to non-academic research, program evaluation, report writing with policy recommendations, etc. I also have 2 good professors who provided letters of reference for me. I also completed a summer Planning internship.
I've been scouring the internet to try to figure out just how competitive this program is, what the average L2 GPA is for people who have been admitted, or anyone's experience being admitted with a GPA similar to mine... to no avail!
for additional context...in 2013 I enrolled in 2 semesters at this same university. Due to being very young and personal circumstances, I moved to another province, worked in the trades, and ended up coming back to my home province after about 3 years. At the time, due to the stress and overwhelm of my personal circumstances, I did not unenroll properly from these 2 semesters and "failed" all of these courses. This university did not take these old grades off my record, so when I went back to get my bachelors in planning nearly a decade later, I started the program with a 0.2 GPA...and now have a cGPA sitting around 3.2. Literally started from the bottom haha. My cGPA is lower than what it would be if I didn't have these old grades on my record, even though I had to re take them to fix my GPA.
Can anyone relate to my journey? or speak to admissions or how competitive this program is?

I am a first year student that intends to transfer to poli sci next fall sem, but can anyone tell me especially in first year courses what the focus of learning is? I have heard mixed opinions about courses like poli s 101 and if someone could tell me what they teach in those classes I think i can have a clearer vision on if it is the right path for me.

I'm posting this to flag to any students to avoid Unitii PM managed rentals/buildings. Avoid them like the plague. They may be the new Boardwalk if not worse. In this case though, a member of the Faculty of Business' Advisory Board in Real Estate, is completely taking advantage of students and not abiding by law: Kevin McKee.
Things have gotten completely dangerous and illegal over at our building, and because the RTDRS has a months-long backlog, tenants are trapped. The community needs to know what local developer Pangman Development Corporation (owned by Kevin McKee) and Unitii PM are putting people through.
Here is a breakdown of what’s happening right now:
This is a high-profile Edmonton developer raking in full corporate rents while leaving 40+ units of people - students, and low-income residents - to survive in a structurally failing, hazardous environment. Kevin is a member of the advisory board for the faculty of business for real estate, yet clearly does not care about the lives of students, especially those with disabilities. Unitii PM’s Vice President has tried to claim they aren't at fault because they "aren't the landlord," completely ignoring the Residential Tenancies Act, which states any management company acting on behalf of an owner, is essentially, the landlord.
Warning any and all students to avoid this company as much as possible when renting from landlords!

Hi, I’m a grade 12 high schooler that’s going into university of Alberta with immunology major and biochemistry minor. My goal is to get into med school and to maintain gpa near 4.0. I just wanted to know if major courses affect your gpa by a lot because I’m hearing there are better courses to take to maintain perfect gpa while learning about mcat related material. If there are students that are attending to u of a with a science related major, I would appreciate to hear their opinion on that.

This is more so a rant, but it's also a question. I just don't know what to do. I have this professor at CSJ and I think she's an amazing lecturer but for some reason she has it out for me. I used to always ask her questions after class ends until one day she told me to book an appointment with her so we could discuss it more in depth. I was unable to do so that same week so I emailed her the following week asking if she had any availability. She seemed not pleased by the fact that I contacted her so late and I apologized for it, telling her I just didn't have the time and I didn't want to waste her time over a simple question when I could collect more questions to discuss with her about. Fast forward to the day of our meeting, she was so mean! She didnt seem interested at all in any of the questions I had, telling me "oh, you should've learnt this from highschool" or "oh, if you actually paid attention in class then you wouldn't be asking me these questions". At one point, she even criticized my French! I explained that it wasn't my first language and I am insecure about it, that also being the reason I don't participate a lot in class (her classes are usually heavy with participation and she always picks people to answer questions, more on that later). I told her I graduated high school school like 3 years ago and so my french is a little rusty speaking wise, and I'm more so taking her class to improve my french. Heck, English isn't even my first language! Other than that, I have no problem understanding her in class. She also kept criticizing my accent as I was struggling to pronounce a word, even though I was LITERALLY pointing at it. Her exact words were "Its impossible to understand you, are you sure you know how to speak French?". After that, she straight up told me this class was not for me. Idk it just made me feel so dumb and small and I was just upset because I thought she was super kind. She ended the appointment early saying this could've been an email and how professors are really busy people and there were a line of other students who had genuine questions who could've been here. I just apologized before I left and I literally hid in the toilets after that because I was bawling my eyes out. After that, she sent me an email for French resources to apparently improve it.
After that, I kept showing up to class mostly because of active participation and though she doesnt usually pick on me after I told her I'm uncomfortable answering questions, she still picks on me occasionally. One time she asked me a question and I said I didnt know the answer, she straight up said in front of everyone "so if you don't know the answer, whats stopping you from asking a question?". Maybe it wasn't a big deal, but I just thought it was humiliating.
Fast forward to our first midterm, she has it so we could only see our tests after booking an appointment with her. The first thing she said to me wasn't a hi or a hello, it was "have you consulted those resources I gave you?" I told her I didn't because I didn't think I needed it. I got an 82% on the midterm. On the midterm there were some open-ended questions and she straight up told me my sentences didn't make sense even if I got almost full points on all of them?? She told me mosr of my words were unintelligible and told me some words were missing accents on it, blah blah blah. I apologized and told her it was probably due to me writing fast. She also said "out of 5 TAs that corrected the papers, not one of them understood what you were trying to convey, you're lucky you got a good grade. Congratulations." Hello??? Then she just let me skim over the questions in silence, but even then I had asked her two questions about stuff I got wrong, not once was she helpful, she was saying things like "it was in the PowerPoint, did you even read through it?", "it was on the revision test" or "It's not my fault that your french comprehension is developed enough to understand the question". She was SO passive aggressive the entire time, at one point she even said "well, thats what all the researchers seem to agree on, if you have a problem with their consensus, how about you go contact them?". I just sat there and nodded until I had to go. But its just so exhausting. She isn't interfering with my life directly, but I'm afraid to ask her questions and sit with her alone one on one. I asked other people in my class if they had any similar experiences with her and they also say that she might be a bit intimidating, but she's overall super kind with them. So why me?!?! I'm convinced I probably did something terrible to her in a past life or something.
Do you guys think I should bring this up to someone or is it not that serious? And even if I did, what would change? I'm just looking for input if anyone has had a similar experience with professors like these because literally all the other professors in my other courses are some of the sweetest people in the world and are actually super patient if you come up to them after class or at their office hours. She's the first AND hopefully last one. I thought I'd avoid professors like that but her RMF profile is generally positive with a 3.7/5. Sorry for the long rant!!

For context i am in her Soc 203 section and have heard similar sentiments about her other courses. She seems to just ramble but tells us how important listening in lecture is for her exams. How is everyone else managing?

Can someone spare me the end of their unit 4 notes pretty please? I officially locked in then realized I slept through that class by accident.
Also, I dont know if this will make any sense but the textbook portion of the notes for unit 4.. do we need to know the end of it? We didn't go over it in class and it's confusing me. None of the practice seems to have any correlation to it but you never know.
I wish everyone luck with their studying for the midterm!! We got this

As the title says, I’m so nervous for the midterm tomorrow and don’t feel like I’m ready. I’ve been studying for days already and it’s not till 5pm tomorrow, but I feel like I’ve had so many midterms lately and now I feel like studying isn’t helping anymore. Does anyone have any tips on how to prepare for it tomorrow. We also get to bring a sheet with us but like I don’t even know what to put on the sheet.
