Question — Itinerary I'm going to India (Bengaluru) - What is there to do after work?

I am booked for my December flight (7 days), I'll be working most of it in bengaluru and then a wedding in varanasi. But what do I do after work in bengaluru, is there anything interesting to do?

Before I get the "interesting is subjective" comments, I'm genuinely curious on personal perspective.

Also any recommendations on transportation services?

Discussion I’m stupid and I keep getting scammed when travelling

I (29F) took a break from work to travel for a year. My family and I did not travel, they were just focused on accumulating wealth. To them it was important to have a big house and to drive nice cars, but it really hit me when they passed away. What was the point? I want to see the world and I don’t want to spend my life just working to then leave it all to my children. As selfish as that is.

But here is the problem, as the title reads, I’m stupid and travelling has been expensive because of the decisions I make. I recently visited Morocco and Egypt. I spent so much because I bought things that I thought are “special” and “one of a kind” but really as now I’m evaluating these experiences I realise how much I was ripped off. For example, with alabaster stone in Egypt. Travelling has not been this rewarding experience where I see beautiful places and I leave thinking how great it was. Instead, I leave and I just think how much I spent and how unnecessary that was.

Have you had similar experiences and what is your recommendation to travel smart?

If you had to rank the above solely in terms of beauty, how would you rank them from most to least beautiful?

Question — General Is Paris Really Overrated?

My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe in november. So far, we’ve decided on Budapest (4 nights), Vienna (4 nights), Prague (3 nights), Bruges (2 nights), and Paris (5 nights).

I’ve been reading a lot on Reddit about Paris being overrated, and some people have told me we probably won’t enjoy it that much.

But honestly, we really like Paris from the YouTube videos we’ve watched, and we’re super excited to visit!

I’d love to hear your experiences and advice. Did you enjoy Paris? Is it worth spending 5 nights there, or would you recommend spending more time somewhere else?

Thanks!

Question — General Is it really true that airlines treat passengers differently during flights to some countries?

I recently took a flight from Malaysia to Pakistan. The flight was initially delayed for over an hour. This was communicated 6 hours before the flight. Which is fine, I would rather know before I get to the airport.

Everyone reaches the airport, we board the flight but it is not moving. 10 minutes pass, then 20 and then an hour, with zero communication as to what’s causing the delay. People are getting agitated, people with children are worried because economy section is getting suffocating due to air conditioning not working. The flight attendants don’t know anything.

Then people crowd the business class demanding answers. Finally after 2 hours, the pilot announces there is a delay due to something called a data recorder box not working which is required to work before flying and there is no issue with the aircraft. Passengers are not allowed to off board while the data recorder is being fixed despite the plane getting increasingly hot. Not even people with a children that are crying non stop.

Finally after 3 hours the flight takes off. The attitude of the cabin crew is dismissive and kind of hostile.

I am wondering how flights to “developed” countries are when there are delays and how those passengers are treated.

Question — General French Polynesia trip (Tahiti)

Hey you all i'm going to French Polynesia in december 18th and will stay there for maybe 3 weeks/ a month. For the first weeks i have somewhere to stay for free so will only spend money with food. But for the rest i have no idea!

I'm used to travel low budget, and i'm a experienced backpacker! Did bunch of hitchikking and camping in south america when my budget was less than 10 usd a day..

was wondering if someone know about food prices (street food) in Tahiti, if the locals also pay the full price for things there, how do they manage to be cheap and about sleeping.. i will bring a tent, hammock and stuff for camping such as stove, sleeping mattress. Any advice? Maybe even a place to stay lol

i'm living on New Zealand so used to "high prices" but seems like tahiti is on another level because of how hard is to get there

Question — General Where to travel for a 4 day weekend in the USA

Hi everyone, I want to take some time off during February the week of valentines but I not sure what is a good place to go to.

I currently reside in Southern California and I haven't been much much around here, I been up to SF for awhile during COVID and to Vegas but that is about it.

I want to get out there more with my girlfriend but I am not sure where to start, I know February is cold around where I live and I looked into Oregon but it looks like it'll be very snowy, we were looking for a rainy vibe but I think that mostly happens in the fall.

We like good food, walks, night time scenery

We don't mind driving

Any ideas would be great, I am not looking for a full itinerary but I can't think of many places, I have only recently started thinking about traveling since I graduated and started worked

Discussion Which Pacific island would offer the most otherworldly experience, with absolute serenity and opportunities for exploration?

I'm looking for an island that feels almost alien, somewhere incredibly peaceful and remote where I can disconnect from everything and spend my days exploring nature. I want that feeling of being somewhere truly different from anywhere I've ever been, with surreal landscapes, unique ecosystems, fascinating biodiversity and beautiful beaches.

Ideally, I'd love to explore by car and on foot, discovering remote corners of the island, hiking through unusual landscapes, finding secluded beaches to swim. What matters most to me is serenity, solitude and the freedom to explore at my own pace, with something extraordinary to discover.

New Caledonia and Niue have caught my attention so far, but I've also considered Vanuatu, the Cook Islands and some of the more remote islands of French Polynesia.

For those who've visited these places, which island gave you the strongest feeling of being on another planet? Where could I find that perfect combination of absolute peace, wild nature, biodiversity, beautiful beaches and genuine exploration?

I'd especially love to hear about lesser-known islands that aren't usually recommended. I'm coming from Europe, so this would be a very special, once-in-a-lifetime kind of trip, and I'd rather discover somewhere truly unique than visit another conventional tropical paradise.

Complaint Avis is hot garbage

I'm really starting to think the entire rental car industry is shit.

Used to be loyal to Hertz, mostly because I got a discount through my employer, but then ran into issues with them messing up my reservations so I jumped to Avis.

For the last 2 or 3 years I had zero issues with Avis, till this current trip to San Diego....

I had to go to Avis three times in three days.

Reserved an EV, arrived, they had no EVs, offered me a gas car and would comp my gas, fine. Come to find out by comping my gas they meant that I could return the tank empty and they wouldn't charge me. Turns out that it had transmission issues.

Returned it to the airport, they tried to charge me for the comped fuel but argued out of that. They STILL had no EVs so they gave me a sportage hybrid, and again offered to comp my one tank of fuel. Fine.

Drive off the lot and make it to my hotel. Get in the vehicle in the morning only for the tire light to turn on. Found out there are 5! Screws in the left rear tire, so unless the road between the airport and hotel is secretly a construction site, I'm willing to bet those screws arent from me. Changed the tire and brought it back...AGAIN.

There were no employees checking in the vehicles, so I just left it. They charged me $111 for less than 1/4 tank of gas...that was supposed to be comped.

Offered to give me a Chevy Suburban... pretty sure that's the polar opposite of an EV...tell them I want an EV and at the very least I want a hybrid... magically they find an Ioniq 5. Great. Pull off the lot, not only is there a vibration in the steering wheel, the rear suspension rattles over every crack and bump in the road. I want to return it, but I'm pretty sure my wife will murder me if I go back to the airport AGAIN instead of enjoying vacation.

I feel like I'm not asking for anything over the top, an EV that isn't massively broken...but apparently that's not a thing Avis can pull off.

Question — Itinerary Dual Citizenship, Different Last Names on Passports – Will This Cause Issues with Turkish Airlines or US Entry?

Hello everyone,

I’ll be traveling to the United States with Turkish Airlines (THY) in about a month. I have dual citizenship, but my last name is different on my two passports.

Since this is a business trip arranged through the company I work for in Turkey, I need to book my flight using the name on my Turkish passport. However, my US visa is in my other passport, which has a different last name.

Could this cause any issues during check-in, boarding, or entry into the US? Has anyone been in a similar situation before?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Question — General Avlie Switzerland Frankfurt Airport

Has anyone bought from, reviewed or has any close information on the beauty company Avlie Switzerland? They have multiple stands in Frankfurt airport with staff pulling you over for testers. We tried some yesterday - they started by showing multiple before and after photos from people supposedly from the same city as us (took them 20 seconds to retrieve these photos from our fellow city residents, and its a small place!) before giving us testers. Showed instant results, however, very high price and didn’t seem to last longer than 30minutes. With premium expensive prices, the staff worker became aggressive with selling once she got the hint we weren’t interested in the products - around €300 per product. However, she showed us the online price when we were there but after looking around online, there’s no trace of this brand anywhere. No reviews, nowhere to buy nothing! Hence why I am here - who are these guys? I did a bit of digging and found that the sales and marketing company is from Romania and essentially the staff operating the pop-up store were from this Romanian company and not necessarily direct employees of Avlie Switzerland. Anyone have any inside scoop? I assume it must be legit to have multiple pop-ups in Frankfurt airport but curious to hear some scoop!!

Question — General Confused about yellow fever vaccine requirements for Central/South America trip.

We will be traveling from El Salvador in January.

We’ll transfer in Bogota to a connecting flight to La Paz, Bolivia for six days.

Then we’ll go to Bogota for six days.

Our last stop will be Rio de Jainero for a week.

I’ve seen mixed statements during my search.

I think that we’re okay as far as admission to each country without it. Is that right?

I’m thinking we’ll get it at the airport in Bogota to help with protection in Brazil. I actually already have it, just don’t have my card. My partner needs it.

Question — General Best places to travel to in April/May?

I am from Canada with dual citizenship (Ireland) and I am hoping to travel somewhere in April for a couple of weeks, just not sure where yet. What are some of the best places to visit during April/May

I love exploring the outdoors, but I also love exploring cities, so I am open to both haha

Places I am considering:

Ireland: Having an Irish passport and family in Ireland makes this one of the top choices, I haven’t been to Ireland since I was 12. However I can go and live/visit any time no problem, so maybe it would be best to go another time?

New Zealand: I have some friends here, I was in Australia last year but missed out on NZ. New Zealand has been a dream of mine to visit for along time. Would love to explore the beautiful nature it offers.

Japan: Another dream destination, this one would have more focus on exploring cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka.

Also considering; South Korea, China, Central Asia, Georgia and Iceland

Hello! I’m flying with Hainan soon (from berlin to shanghai) and turns out my luggage bag is 10cm total over the luggage size limit (which is 158cm, my luggage bag is 168cm). Is there a high risk of my luggage getting measured? are they strict about the measurements? i know to keep my eye on the weight, but i’m worried about the sizing. thanks for all the replies!

Discussion ANA SFO-NRT NH7 cancelled, but flew empty?

Post image
35 Upvotes

I was on NH7 today SFO-NRT and it was cancelled for mechanical reasons. All PAX waiting at the gate were rebooked and given hotel vouchers if needed, but the plane departed shortly after it's original scheduled departure time.

I at first thought if it would arrive after NRT curfew it would be a problem, or loads of miss connections that it would be easier to rebook in SFO, but it's landing less than 90 minutes late, so most connections would have been made.

What kind of tech problems could let the plane fly back empty vs just getting a repair in SFO?

Question — General First time to Europe for a week. What size luggage to buy?

• Upvotes

I will be traveling to Austria for 7 days in January and I don’t own a suitcase. I am looking at travel pro. The international carry on seems too small so I am between the domestic carry on (I would have to check it) or the medium checked bag. The carryon is probably more useful for future travel but I also have any duffel bags for a short trip. I am not an overpacked but the fact that it will be freezing there in January means that things take up more space. Since I would have to check the domestic carry on anyway, is it better to just get the medium bag?

Question — General Local tour guide operator in Milan

I'm traveling to Milan with my family in December, and we are looking for a local tour guide company for a half-day walking tour through the city.

I'm getting too many ads for GetYourGuide, Viator, etc., and want to find a local company that offers private walking tours in English. If anyone has recommendations for groups/companies like this in the Milan area, please let me know!

Question — Itinerary SE Asia Itinerary Advice

How does this trip itinerary sound? I’m worried it might be moving around too much and too expensive. Arrive Bangkok, immediately fly to Chiang Mai and spend 3 nights there. Fly to Luang Prabang for 2 nights, then fly to Siem Reap for 3 nights. Then Phnom Penh for 1 night, fly to Bangkok for 3 nights, then Koh Samui for 3 nights. Bangkok and Koh Samui are locked in, flexible for the rest. I’m thinking of cutting either Luang Prabang or Phnom Penh, but I do want to go to both of those. Thoughts on if this is too much and how to optimize it? Start and end dates are set, trip is mid-January

Question — General Sri Lanka Tourist Visa: Can We Extend Our Stay After Returning from the Maldives on Day 31?

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are Spanish citizens planning to arrive in Sri Lanka on 11 December 2026 and stay for approximately three months.

We have a trip to the Maldives booked from 6 to 10 January, returning to Colombo on 10 January (around day 31 of our stay).

We understand that applying for a visa extension during the first 30 days automatically cancels the double-entry facility. However, we're concerned that waiting until we return from the Maldives might be too late to extend our visa.

Would it be possible to extend our visa at the airport on day 31? Would we face any penalties for extending it after the initial 30-day period has expired? Is there a risk that we might not be allowed to re-enter Sri Lanka at all?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation recently?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Travelling (by land) during a trip is underrated

I've done quite a few trips where I've spent two full days in a small city, then gone by train or bus on the third day, only to do another two full days in another city, and so on... and often left the country by a different airport than I arrived in.

I really enjoy the whole experience, whether it's looking out the window at the kind of countryside you never see within the city, or stopping in places tourists would never otherwise visit. Provided I have a few solid says parked in one place beforehand, I enjoy going to large train stations and catching a train (or coach) to a new location and I don't consider it a "lost day". I've done this in Central Europe, the Western Balkans, Tunisia, Greece, Israel-Palestine, Bavaria, Japan... and I'm planning a similar trip up through the Baltic to Finland.

I actually enjoy a (reasonable length) journey to the next location. To me it's part of the fun. Flying on the other hand, although sometimes necessary, is always a lost day, even on short flights.
