Question Is sitting next to the baby bassinet worth the extra legroom?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m thinking of booking a seat in the first row of economy, right next to (potentially) the baby bassinet area.

The extra legroom sounds great, but I’m wondering if it’s worth the risk of sitting next to a crying baby for the whole flight lol.

Question ANA SFO-NRT NH7 cancelled, but flew?

I was on NH7 today SFO-NRT and it was cancelled for mechanical reasons. All PAX waiting at the gate were rebooked and given hotel vouchers if needed, but the plane departed shortly after it's original scheduled departure time. What gives?

Question Did not put middle name on ticket but it is on passport. Can I still fly? U.S -> Japan -> Vietnam

I booked a flight to Vietnam and did not put my middle name. My passport has First, middle and last name.

I called united and they said it should be ok but the last part of flight (japan -> vietnam) is operated by ANA.

I called ANA and they said I need the middle name, but I look online and people seem to have no issue.

Do any of you know about this or have experience? I booked the entire flight through United.

If I can't take that second flight then I guess japan vacation instead? haha

Question Window Seat

I recently flew with one of the airline. My question is I purchased window seat for this long haul flight for day time. Earlier, the passenger behind me asked me to lower down the window shade and I put in half. Not long after that, cabin crew asked me to fully closed the shade. I wonder, I paid for the seat but I cannot enjoy the view from my seat, and 90% of the route just to see the wall only. Is there any reason (like relate to safety or what), but if yes, then what is the benefit we earn from purchasing the seat at the first place if we are not allowed to open the shade for the whole flight?

Complaint Another warning not to use Trip.com - "easy cancellation" means it's easy for them to take your money if you cancel

So I am semi-retired, saved up a little dough and wind up taking trips every couple of months. I used Expedia but decided to try Trip for a few flights and it has been a disaster.

At times Expedia may be just slightly more than Trip, but Expedia has EXCELLENT customer service and they have bailed me out of situations before. Once in Deli, and in Bali I was in anxious situations with my completely corrupt hotels and Expedia came charging in like the Lone Ranger and slapped those folks down. Expedia will then (!) give you credits toward your next purchase if you have a bad experience through their system.

Trip has ZERO customer service, but here's what I am upset about and why I will never use Trip again:

I was booking a flight for one of my more pricier trips (ex-teacher, I do a lot of budget travel :P). I saw: Would you like to use "Easy Cancellation". Now part of this is my fault for being so gullible as to think Trip might have been ethical and sincere. No, it was totally misleading. They sucker you in with the promise of easily cancelling and getting your money back.

I clicked on this feature thinking, for various reasons, I might need to cancel this trip (I had good reasons).

It cost $73, but I thought, OK it might be worth it if I can get my money back if I need to cancel. WRONG.

So I tried to cancel and one of their "customer service agents" (not) told me I would get less than half of my money back. So I kept asking, "Wait...it said easy cancel, what did I pay for?" "Well sir, it was easy to cancel right?" "But you took about half my money...it's easy for me to cancel and easy for you to take my money?" Basically, the response was "Yeah sucker."

So please be warned - do not pay them $73 for "easy cancel" because you will lose that money and at least half your fare." Pay $10 more for your flight and get the protection Expedia gives you. Expedia acts as if they care (and maybe they do).

Trips acts like a con man.

And here's what makes me scratch my head. I was booking flights with them every couple of months. They could have made money off of me for a year, but I got a message telling me they would refund my trip money (they said the terms are you get one "free" cancellation - huh?) but they would need to (it's a natural law like Boyle's Law I guess) keep the $73.

So I am thinking, yeah, let them keep the $73 because they lose the money I will spend on Expedia now. Under no circumstances will I ever even go to the Trip site again. I have heard other horror stories about Trip - please be careful.

Question China eastern

I’ve booked with china eastern for the first time and am a little nervous about the booking confirmation. I’m used to airlines sending you a pdf e-ticket thing with the flight info. I have received a confirmation email and order number so I’m assuming it’s fine but just wanted some confirmation that not receiving a pdf is normal from china eastern! Thanks!!

Question Boarding card not issued

I've just booked flights with Ryanair to Krakow, Poland for my wife and I in December. My wife is a Spanish passport holder though we have been married since the early '80s and lived in UK since that time and she has proof issued back in 2019 for right to remain.

Ryanair have issued her a boarding card for the flight to Poland but not for the flight back saying that checks need to be made first. We have made many flights in and out of the UK for decades and this has never happened before, is it just a Ryanair thing and is there anything to worry about?

Question SAS cancelled flight

Hello, SAS cancelled my flights AGP-ARN-HEL on 23/12/2026 at 11.25-20.20 and offered alternates on the day before with the same schedule, or on the same day AGP-CPH-HEL, but leaving at 18.30 and arriving at 1.35, which would mean I'd have to spend the night at the airport as public transit is not available at 2 o'clock at night. I already asked in the chat to be rebooked onto Finnair or Norwegian as they have direct flights but the response was the standard "our system doesn't allow that".

Anyways, my question is that would I have grounds to actually be booked on the direct flight that day and should I keep pushing back?

Help Needed Malaysia Airlines refusing name correction. What are my options?

I booked an international flight through MakeMyTrip, but I accidentally entered my wife's name incorrectly.

  • Airline: Malaysia Airlines
  • Departure: Bengaluru
  • Destination: kuala lumpur airport
  • Flight number(s): MH193
  • Date of travel: 30 October 2026 (early morning)
  • Booking portal: MakeMyTrip
  • Passport/citizenship: Indian passport

The ticket shows her given name shortened (e.g., Lakshmi instead of the full given name) and her surname represented by an initial instead of the full surname. Her passport has her full name correctly.

I contacted Malaysia Airlines, but they said the correction isn't permitted and cancellation and rebooking are the only options. MakeMyTrip shows a cancellation deduction of approximately US$100. A replacement ticket would cost around US$600, so cancelling would be expensive.

I'm willing to pay a reasonable correction fee if possible, but I want to avoid cancelling unnecessarily.

Has anyone successfully resolved a substantial name mismatch with Malaysia Airlines through MakeMyTrip, or travelled with a correct passport but a mismatched ticket name?

Help Needed Turkish Airlines Extra Baggage (Extrafly) - Can't add via Manage Booking or WhatsApp (Istanbul-Tokyo)

Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a stressful situation and wanted to see if anyone has dealt with this on Turkish Airlines.

• The situation: I booked a single ticket between Istanbul and Tokyo with an Extrafly fare. • The problem: I need an extra suitcase, but when I try to add it through Manage Booking on the website, the option just isn't there or won't let me do it. • What I've tried: I reached out to Turkish Airlines support on WhatsApp, and they told me I still cannot add more luggage right now, that it might be possible during online check-in, or at the airport, but they couldn't give me a firm confirmation.

I'm really worried about what to do with my stuff if they end up not allowing or accommodating an extra bag at check-in. Should I just risk showing up and paying at the counter, or is there a trick to getting this sorted beforehand? Has anyone flown this route (IST-TYO) on Turkish with Extrafly and run into this?

Would you buy additional suitcase and risk it hoping to get option to buy 1 more suitcase?

Thanks in advance. :)

Help Needed Help! Expedia won't let me use my unexpired airline credit

Last month I had to cancel a ticket I bought on Expedia and I was issued a flight credit. It was United. It's not expired. I followed the proper flow on Expedia to search for a flight using the credit. It lets me put in the departing and arriving airports and run a search for flights and then it prompts me to "apply any eligible credit" but when I click on that, it says there is no eligible credit.

I have not yet told the platform that I want a certain ticket class or flight so it's not one of those issues. I am traveling to and from the same place for the flights I cancelled.

Does anyone have any idea why I can't use my credit? I'm gonna call tomorrow too

Question What does standby in flight means?

Hello, I had a confirmed ticket (no seats selected) in Saudi airlines. When I went to the checkin baggage counter, the official at the counter told me that I was moved to a stand by list. He said something like this, "Ohh, you were moved to standby.Oh!!". He then talked to someone at the other counter and called someone and then asked something. After getting the confirmation, he generated my boarding pass.

Later when I searched about standby, I found out that it is a waiting list. I don't understand, I had confirmed tickets that were booked two months in advance. Why did the airline let me book tickets without seats if seat selection was this necessary? If there are no available seats in the plane, then what happens in such cases?

Can someone please explain? Thank you.

Question All Nippon vs United Premium Economy?

Looking to book premium economy for my wife and son from the United States to NRT. They will most likely fly home out of HND. Looks like two options I have will be United on a 787 or All Nippon on a 777-300. The United option is about $200 more expensive each way. Is it pretty much a wash as far as service and food and flight quality? I feel like the 787 experience could be better than the 777, even though I’m sure they’re both nice planes. Thanks.

Question Flying through Saudi Airspace?

Hi all, I have a trip coming up to the Maldives and I'll be flying out of New York. I'm debating between Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines. There is a Turkish Airlines flight TK740 that flies directly to the Maldives from Istanbul and traverses through Saudi airspace. My other option is to do the 19 hour flight from New York to Singapore, and then fly from Singapore to the Maldives.

I have some misgivings about flying with Turkish given the current status of the Saudi airspace in light of the Houthi attacks in recent days. Would you do the Turkish Airlines option or the Singapore Airlines option? Is it safe at all to fly through the Saudi airspace?

Discussion Hand luggage rant

I just need to have a rant about hand luggage.

On some airlines such as EasyJet, they state that the "free" hand luggage sized bags go under the seat in-front - if you purchase a large hand bag then it goes in the over head locker. Fair enough!

However, I just flew on Swiss, where my fare included a large cabin bag and a small personal item. I took a medium sized backpack only. The flight was full and many pax had huge trolley bags. Because of this the cabin crew made me have my backpack at my feet, meaning I had restricted leg room.

Raging! I'd bought the same fare class as everyone else, but because I didn't bring a giant bag, I now have to fly in discomfort with no foot space. Seriously considering taking a trolley bag next time, even though I don't need it, to guarantee my leg room. Why should the people travelling with a considerate amount of hand baggage be the ones to suffer (when they've paid the same fare)?

Rant over!

Question What happens if I don’t check in or show up for a Volaris flight?

I booked a flight with Volaris a few months ago for October 31st. I’m not going on the trip after all, and since I got a non refundable ticket, they issued me an electronic voucher when I asked to cancel. I received the code for the voucher, but the flight still shows up on my trips. Do I need to try again to get the flight canceled or do I just not show up? If I don’t check in or show up will I end up with some kind of fee?

Help Needed Vietjet change iterinary - impossible transfer

I bought a vietjet flight (Osaka -> Hanoi -> Bangkok). One iterinary, not separate flights.

Yesterday they hit me with a change in departure of the 2nd flight. I had good 3 hours between the flights, now I have minus 2. Yes, the 2nd flight leaves when I'm still flying the first one.

They only have 1 flight to Bangkok per day so they cant just put me on another later flight. I need to arrive there on the same day...

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with vietjet? I asked the support to offer alternatives. Radio silence after 24 hours, gonna call tomorrow.

Normally I wouldn't care since it's 100% their fault & (should be) problem. But it's a low cost airline and the flight is in 5 days. Booking an alternative will cost me at least double.

Please share your experience if you had a "pleasure" to be in a similar situation.

Question Connection before leaving Japan

We leave Japan on November 14th and will be flying FUK - HND - MSP on a ticket booked through Delta and code shared with ANA.

Since the FUK - HND portion is domestic code shared on ANA and arrives at T2 am I correct that we will need to do the following steps:

  • Pick up our checked luggage from the flight from Fukuoka - or will our luggage be transferred?
  • Take the bus to T3
  • Check in at international departures counter
  • Go through security
  • Updated tax refund process (Starts Nov 1)
  • Go through customs
  • Immigration

Our flight lands in HND at 13:00 and departs at 17:20, that should be plenty of time?

I haven't flown a connection within Japan before or to HND so it's new territory.

Question Flying on/around Thanksgiving

My family scheduled the memorial for my mother's recent passing on the third Saturday in November.

I'm flying from RDU to PHX, Nov 18-Nov 26. It will require one layover. I fly out early and depart midday. I will fly first class. I check luggage. Delta or American.

I'm considering returning to my current home on Thanksgiving Day mostly because feel like flying on a holiday everybody's likely to be more congenial and accommodating. But I could be wrong. 🤔 Yet I think traveling will worsen through the following weekend.

I have not flown on a holiday since I was a slick sleeve Airman 20 years ago paying my last dollars on a shitty middle seat to get home. Hence I'm reaching out.

Thanks 🦃

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Question about crazy delay: American-Boston to DFW

Just flew into DFW from BOS on AA. Original flight was scheduled to leave around 10am (AA 479). It was one of several throughout the day from BOS to DFW. Got notice this morning around 6am that the flight would be delayed until 12:30pm for maintenance. Then around 10:30 the delay was extended until 1:30pm, then 2, then 3:30. We had the opportunity to rebook on the other flights, but we had checked bags, and the other flights were always a couple hours after the delayed departure time. The delays kept going, all the way to 8pm, after the last nonstop flight was scheduled to leave, so we couldn't rebook. Then it got bumped to 11pm departure. Luckily the last scheduled direct flight was also delayed, and we were able to get on it after waiting standby (AA 1401). The whole day, we never saw our purported plane. They even switched gates which made us think that we had a plane, but nope. The only thing we were ever told was "maintenance.". Just after boarding the last flight, we received notice that our original flight was again delayed until 7am. When we landed in DFW, I checked and the flight was still scheduled for 7am, with all seats available as I suppose everyone had rebooked.

My question is why would the airline not simply cancel the flight when it was apparent the flight wasn't happening? In the future, how can I tell the difference between a real 30 min maintenance delay and just being strung along to hang out in the airport for 13 hours? Any input/advice is appreciated.

Question Arrival Gate at Hanoi Airport (HAN)

Hello! Anyone know what gate at Hanoi Airport CI 791 from Taipei (TPE) arrived at on October 22! TIA!
