Artist/Apprentice/Shop Verification UPDATED

Hi everyone!

We have received a few comments on our previous verification instructions post that for some folks, the "See More" button has disappeared on mobile and desktop.

We have added a link to message modmail to the toolbar found on the right of desktop. As of June 2025, we do not currently have a workaround for mobile if "see more" is missing for you, so feel free to reply to this post letting us know you are having difficulty accessing modmail and we will help as best we can.

Discussion Verifying Tattooers/Modmail

Hey all!

If you are a tattooer that wants to be verified or are just someone with questions for the mod team please use modmail. Please do not message any of the mods via individual DM. Please see the screenshots for how to message modmail (via mobile) if you don’t know how to already.

Since Monday I have received about a dozen personal DMs for artist verification. However, one of these message came in at 12:30am and by 6am the same day I had a nasty follow up message for not replying. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say this person probably lives in a different part of the world, and didn’t realize they messaged these two messages at what would generally be considered times that most people (myself included) are asleep. And this is exactly why we ask people to message modmail instead of any of us directly.

The mod team here is small for a sub of this size but we do try to handle anything that comes into modmail as quickly as possible. Often times if we get individual DMs about mod related issues for the sub, we are at work when it comes in and forget about it by the time we get home. Sometimes we are simply with our families, or even touching grass and spending some time off Reddit ( gasp ). Sometimes we are just asleep. When you message via modmail, the message goes to a group inbox and we can all see it so if one of us forgets or is busy the rest of us can take over handling artist verification or any other issues you may have. That being said- we are still just people with jobs and lives outside of Reddit, so please don’t get annoyed with us if you don’t get a reply within a few hours. Most of the time we reply within a day, but shit happens and this sub is not all that important in the grand scheme of life, the universe, and everything.

TL/DR: Use modmail to reach the mod team please & thank you

PS: We took your feedback on the whole banning X links and have banned X links from the sub (overwhelming majority was to ban)

PPS: We have added a new mod to the team, u/coffeehedake , and one (possibly two) of our old mods should be returning soon

Rate my bf's tattoo! I find it funny and adorable how the cat is being “picked up” over the scar. He’s been contemplating whether he should have ever gotten it.

What do you think? It's only 2 days old and still healing.

Just got my first tattoo last week and, after going back and forth about a design for years, finally decided to pull the trigger on this. Absolutely love it so far! Ari at Monolith Studio was amazing to work with, especially for a first-timer like myself. Check out her portfolio here!

To celebrate my 28th B-Day 🥹 (2nd repost because I didn’t really read the guidelines well 😅)

Like I said in the CS, All I can do is live and learn from this shitty experience I put myself through lol….

I don’t really regret getting a Tattoo for my B-Day, just bummed out by the outcome I originally was proud of, all I can do is treat this shitty experience as a learning experience on what not to do as I deal with the healing process.

Death Head & Blue Pansy Moth By GoredInk, AnimeInk Con, Richmond

I got my death head last October and my blue pansy three weeks ago. I love the death head so much but I'm still warming up to the blue pansy.... I like it but there's just a bunch of tiny things and shading I will have her touch up. I'm planning on getting bigger vines around my ankles to fill in the space and make it more a completed piece. The last picture are touchups. I'm thinking about adding to make the blue pansy on par with the death head.
What do yall think?!

Completed over approximately 50 hours. My client requested a full leg sleeve of peony flowers, rocks and water in a neo-traditional Japanese style. We’re just about to wrap up the matching arm sleeve and chest panel. Thanks for looking!

Trigger Warning ( TW: SH) Scar coverup by Sara Midkiff, Beyond Ink and Art, Niles, MI

Photo one: the view from straight on.
Photo two: angled to see the little bird friends.
Photos three and four: the 'before'.

In February of this year, I got to celebrate two years of being free from SH. In honor of that milestone, I decided that this is the year I get my scars covered, because they were finally old enough (scars take a long time to heal, y'all). I got two pieces on my left arm over the course of the year, and this guy on the right arm today. With this one done, my scars are officially covered. Aside from the red ones up top (they're the newest, but they'll mellow out with age, much like myself) they're hidden fantastically. If you wanted to get really close and examine it thoroughly, I'm sure you could spot some of them. If you're analyzing my arm that closely looking for evidence, then grab some sunglasses to put on dramatically while delivering a quippy one-liner, because you, my friend, are conducting a murder investigation. I'll see myself out.

In all seriousness, I went into this knowing that this is a tattoo, not a 4th-level cleric spell. It was never going to make the scars totally disappear, no matter how well it was executed. What's important is that I love it to bits, I think my artist did a fantastic job, and when I look in the mirror, I don't just see my scars anymore. I see a sickass crow on my left and a sickass tree on my right. Even if the scars aren't hidden, they're still covered, and that's more than good enough for me. People aren't going to look at me and immediately see them. They'll see a sick tattoo, there's a slight chance they'll say "I like your tattoo" depending on the context of the situation, and go on with their lives none the wiser.

Every time I looked at myself, I saw these reminders of my lowest times, and it always took me back there. To that time. Doing those thing. Every time I saw my skin, I got a fresh hit of depression and addiction. But I got home from this appointment and I went immediately to a mirror. I looked at my crow, and my flowers, and now my tree, and I just felt at peace. Not just at peace, but actually a little proud. I didn't see someone who fucked up, who let themself down, who was weak. I saw someone who'd gotten better; someone who fought and won and turned the reminders of their troubles into reminders of their strength.

Sara, I don't know if you use Reddit, but if you see this, just know that you've given me a gift that can never be repaid. That, and the fact you've put five tattoos on me so far and they've all been bangers.
