"Steev Palpatine ‘Galiphile’ has resigned

to form a new UNBOUND REALM

In his absence, a new Emperor,

Drake Ryzer, has risen from

the ashes of Discord

and will not rest until

SW5e, a Star Wars conversion,

has been revived.

------

Little does the SW5E COMMUNITY know but

Drake Ryzer has secretly

begun construction on new

systems and rules even

more powerful than the first

STAR WARS 5TH EDITION.

------

When completed, this ultimate

system will spell certain enjoyment

for the small band of Star Wars fans

seeking to make engaging stories

In the Star Wars galaxy..."

------

Hello everyone, your friendly neighborhood “starship lord” (maniac xD) here, sorry this is not a website update, but hopefully something that will be just as good.

To start off, I have been given full control of Star Wars 5th Edition’s Reddit and Discord on top of the future development of the SW5e system. Galiphile (known as Steev on the Discord) has unveiled his new venture called Unbound Realms, leaving SW5e’s future up to myself as well as some of the still active Council. If you enjoyed the content made through SW5e from its onset and up to now then I highly suggest checking it out if you want more of it. Unbound Realms website and they also have their own Discord.

I know it’s been a long, and frankly quiet, road but I am committed to bringing new content to the SW5e system to provide all our current and future game masters and players an even greater Star Wars conversion built using Dungeon & Dragons 5th Edition.

And with that all said, these are the initial steps and goals for the future of SW5e:

The Future of SW5e:

We are working on a new website that will house the rules as well as a built in character creator for SW5e. As you guys know from when Galiphile/Steev left the community a few years ago; some of the website team from Mass Effect 5e has graciously taken management of our current website. In the process of learning how it works, it was decided that making a new website would be for the best, using the ME5e site as its base. Our current website relies on an information Parser built for GMBinder specific coding which allowed us to make PDFs and update the website in an easy workflow. Unfortunately that has also made it hard to continue using that format (and came with its own bugs).

Additionally, to making usable PDFs using GMBinder (or even Homebrewery) takes a lot of effort to format correctly for both PDFs as well as the current website, especially when dealing with such large documents as entire rulebooks. Effort that I frankly just do not want to spend time and energy on anymore and was taken into account when deciding to begin construction of a new website. And until the new site is completed we won’t be pushing new “Official” releases in an effort to keep confusion down as much as we can (I know SW5e is kind of a mess everywhere). I will update everyone when we have new information to share on the new SW5e website and I hope the community can be patient with us as we work through this new management.

However in the meantime, we have a working solution to help alleviate some confusion as well as to give the community a better look into what is coming…

Decrypted Lore:

Myself and some other members of the community are currently working on a project using GitHub Pages which will effectively be the equivalent of D&D5e’s “Unearthed Arcana”. We are currently calling it “Decrypted Lore” and it will be a ‘website’ that houses all future content releases as well as revisions that are slated for release to the official system. As it is a big project (and something I only thought of a few months ago) we are still far, far away from a public release.

Once it is up and running we will be using it not only for the time before the new website but also going further into the future for any and all changes we want to make to the SW5e system. I know the constant changes and shadow dropping of content we used to do were not without their controversies and I hope to mitigate that by giving the community a heads up on what is coming; but also a chance to voice your opinions and possible changes to that content. And of course we will let everyone know when that opens up for public viewing.

The Old Council:

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Galiphile/Steev as well as all the Council who have served over the years. Everyone that served in the Council roles over the years have poured their time, energy and creativity into making SW5e what it is today. Without them we wouldn’t have this cool and engaging conversion to make epic Star Wars stories and battles with. But with great times there also comes sadness. Most of the current Council have moved on to bigger and better things for their own lives and have long since grown distant from the SW5e Community. After asking each of them their opinions and what they want to do, many will be stepping down from Moderation and Development Team roles and have given their best wishes for the SW5e system.

A New Council:

I plan to reform many of the Discord Roles with clear roles they will play in the future of SW5e.and part of that will be establishing a new team of moderators and development members over time based on who I think will fit best in each role. I will make announcements with updates as they come up.

A Reworked Discord and Subreddit:

The SW5e Discord is huge, like really huge xD. And of course that also makes it confusing to navigate, especially for new members. To combat this, I will be adding Discord’s Onboarding feature to the Discord. Adding new roles that can be chosen to access the different channels depending on what each member wants to see. This means reformatting channels, channel categories, and the intent for each of them; including archiving many; in an effort to make a cohesive space for the community to use to create and chat.

I will also be doing similar work on the Subreddit to clean it up a bit and make it easier to find any needed or beneficial information regarding SW5e.

This is Where the Ending Theme Plays:

This is all the information I have for you guys at this moment. The SW5e dev team and myself offer our thanks in your patience as we continue to work towards offering a great space for new and fun ideas to make cooperative TTRPG stories within the Star Wars Galaxy. I hope to continue working on this great system using this great fictional universe called Star Wars and making awesome stuff with the community.

So get out there, make some stories, blast a few Stormtroopers, hunt down some bounties… and may the Force be with you.

Current State of SW5e

Important post by lead developer u/DrakeRyzer, regarding the future of SW5e!

Discord Server

The SW5e Discord is much more active than this subreddit.  If you want a quicker answer and smoother communication, join us!

Website

Everything on the site is perfectly fine for play, with a few notable exceptions:

  • Character Creator. We don't recommend that players rely on the character creator on the site. It can be used to assist with character creation, but it’s nowhere near as polished as its D&DBeyond counterpart. It has errors, is unfinished, and is really unreliable.  If you or your players want a digital character sheet option, try using the Form Fillable PDF on the SW5e website or the Google Sheet linked below.
  • Scum and Villainy. We don't recommend using Scum and Villainy on the site, nor do we recommend using the Scum and Villainy PDF. Both are very out-of-date. Many monsters have incorrect CR calculation or other errors. Instead, you should use this GMBinder doc (also linked below). If you're looking for even more stat blocks, check out Aziz's Hypdercodex
  • Starships of the Galaxy PDF. The rules for SotG on the site are perfectly fine, but the PDF listed under "Assets" uses old rules. Here's the PDF for the SotG rules if you want it.

Fan Content We Made a Star Wars Spooky One Shot for Halloween! “The Temple of Exar Kun” for your own use.

We wanted to build a one shot for Star Wars 5E since our group loves spooky season! We’ve provided it here for any DMs or players who are looking for something to run and we hope you enjoy it! I’ve also put some GM notes in spoilers after my group ran it.

Access it here! https://docs.google.com/document/d/16-OkvWuBI6zSKEKGWMN_rjeb8adxCXRS/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=108707996945588120544&rtpof=true&sd=true

If you want to listen to some people play it, see some more information at the bottom

The Tomb of Exar Kun

Premise: You’ve been told a sizable treasure trove exists unguarded deep within a long forgotten temple on the jungle world of Yavin IV. Landing a short distance away, you make your way through the harsh flora on a dark and stormy night to the base of an ominous temple within a dark lake. Pay no mind to the rumors that spirits still inhabit the place, there’s money to be made.

Group Size: 5x 6th-level PCs with 3000 credits of equipment

Setting: Agnostic, but Clone Wars fits neatest due to Yavin IV being relatively unknown

Duration of Play: 3-4 hours

If you want to listen: We’re the Star by Star podcast, and we’re an actual play following the New Jedi Order novels. The episode where we play the one shot is live now on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts! Not a plug; but we would love a listen, comments and some feedback on the podcast if that’s up your alley.(a link is here)

Note: Although we’re largely anti-AI as a group, it was used to format the word document so it was somewhat presentable. Happy to provide the original word document if need be for your own editing, because some of my “read aloud” descriptions were truncated.

GM Notes- Spoilers follow

>!Overall, I both pulled some punches early as did my players. I used the adventure day XP guide and set up three encounters of Medium, Medium, and Deadly. We were down a player (so only 4 instead of 5) but I didn’t adjust. My players aren’t super optimizers but they do know their way around the table.

The challenge is level 6 is veryyy swingy. Exar Kun alone can seriously mess them up because they don’t have the HP, or they can burn him down pretty quick because their DPS is high.

Some things I’d change
Area 1- Use the swamp wampas odor effect; I was rolling hot against my players and they weren’t hitting at all so I pulled punches. I wouldn’t a second time.

Area 2- The puzzle here is designed for Roll20 (shout out to the site I googled for a stone puzzle). It needed a bit more work. I used transparent walls for the dynamic lighting when it should have either been physical ruins or an actual shadow wall. The flavor text that CARRIE gives them could’ve been better too. An upgrade of this puzzle I didn’t have time to build but would’ve liked is the Pokémon ice sliding stone puzzle.

Area 3- I liked this area; the players naturally trigged the Tuk’ata attack even despite being warned. It’s an optional encounter and we cut it short due to how long we were going (we’re all old); that’s helpful for if your players screw the pooch. If I’d had a lot more time to prep for this week, I would’ve decorated this room a bit more because the close quarters made for some boring combat.

Area 4- I really like this encounter still; I’d wished that I had built the flavor text to be more… spooky. Like I mentioned above, Exar Kun can be swingy: he almost one shot our one party member on his first turn. They also had the foresight to negate the lair effect and do some heavy damage to him right out of the gate by bringing a thermal detonator. It’s very hard to tell what I’d change here, because I can see this fight absolutely swinging hard with some poor rolls. His ability set suits how he’s described; but I would use his mobility to your advantage. I also added in a legendary resistance to extend the fight a bit more.

Epilogue: we didn’t record it we did discuss it / ad lib it. From the novels, as long as the temple exists, the Spirit can return!<

That’s all! Good hunting and happy Halloween!

Question Follower Character Sheets Help

I am currently prepping up for a Star Wars campaign with some friends and I wanted to make a Jawa with a Droid Bodyguard, I saw that the engineer class had an archetype called "Astrotech Engineer (Companion)" so I decided to investigate. It seemed perfect for my character and my DM allowed it.

I have a very simple question, is there a way to make a character sheet for my droid companion? I have a solid understanding of how they work gameplay wise and how I would go about making one one paper but I have not been able to find a place to make them on the website.

I had investigated the character creation pages and have found nothing, no follower class or species.

Am I SOL for an online Companion sheet? Has someone made their own? Are the devs working on it? I am fine if I have to make my own character sheet IRL I just wanted to make sure.

Question Stat Block for Sniper Droideka?

Is there a Stat block for the sniper droidekas? And if no: What changes to the normal droideka would you recommend to represent the sniper droideka and especially its strong front shielding

I always loved those guys ever since I saw them the first time and would like to use them in my upcoming campaign but there seems to be no statsblock for it. What do you think would be a good way to create their statblock?

Question Questline VTT or Foundry VTT or something else?

I've been looking for VTT for a possible future campaign, I've notice that Questline VTT advertise support for SW5e, but not much about it . I've also also seen a lot of general support for foundry with I have only used later very briefly as a player not DM and there's still a lot of possible option, I'd like to hear your thought on the matter.

So- I’m a bit of a fan of DND, and Star Wars does intrigue me, and I did kind of want to play it. But I don’t know how to like- genuinely find like a game is all…🥲😅

Homebrew Balancing Homebrew Enemies

I know CR is supposedly broken and all, but I am going to be dming this system for the first time and between watching D20’s Starstruck Odyssey and seeing comments on here about balance, I’m not sure how exactly to navigate making homebrew enemies.

Now the hard part is that my players don’t all have their characters made yet. We won’t be playing for some months now, but I do have all my materials accessible, so a couple have gotten started. That being said, I have a party of 6 and we’re starting at level 3. So far I have a juggernaut berserker, a biotech engineer, and a Corsair sentinel. I know there will be at least two “force” users (no, it’s not the force in my setting. Lots of homebrew, but I am using the force powers list).

All this is to ask: how reliable are the CR ratings in online resources? I like to reskin and combine stat blocks from the books. From what I’ve heard, CR is not one to one with normal 5E, and with me having a party of 6, I really want to design encounters that don’t end immediately every time because the players are way overpowered.

Thanks in advance!

Homebrew Testing intreast in a campagin

I have been gripped by an idea and I would like to see who may be interested in trying it

I wish to represent a very specific setting which I have been mulling over for some time. The old west in space, a 18/19th century time period with Treasure Plant style space travel. If you've watched Firefly and wished that it had a wizard, then I have excellent news.

Asternonauts with muskets, revolvers and woolen overcoats taking sail boats into the sky. Sword cowboys and gun knights. Inspired by the real world era where samurai, pirates, Victorian nonsense and the wild west were all existing at once. And Ive asked the very important question of what if that was starwars?

More in the western genre than anything else but there is a also quite a bit else. Ive been told that cowboys on a boat is just pirates with extra steps. I disagree

And so have begun to construct my Adam, the unholy merging of two great constructions. Dnd 5.5 and Starwars 5th edition. And of course, good old dnd 5e because they changed some things....they.changed.some.things...

With all that being said I like telling grounded and tragic stories. Im pretty bad at improv without at least an outline. I like the players story to be a part of the plot, but for me there dose need to be a plot happening. Im the type of gm who might ask you about your character's parents.

This would be a roleplay heavy table but the things your role-playing are very often dangerous and violent situations. We'll roll initiative every other session but its gonna take up most of the session. But I dont like to just turn the narrative off in combat.

So uh

That seem good?

Degrees of success in sw5e?

One thing I don't like about d20 systems is that they often don't have a system for deciding how well you succeed at something beyond crits, meaning that bonuses to rolls don't reflect one's level of skill beyond likelihood of a normal success. Cyberpunk RED, which uses an exploding d10, has a table of difficulty values that identify how well you succeed according to your total. I assume it would be fairly easy to adapt 5e's difficulty class system to do something similar, but I haven't really seen it used this way. Has anyone written down a homebrew table that clarifies what higher totals mean for an in-game success? Or is there an official SW5E table that performs this function? Please let me know.

Question Need help understanding Droid Customization rules

Hi! I'm currently working on making a Class II droid, and I had a question regarding the Droid customizations. In the rules it says, "A droid’s motor can support two droid customizations, and can be upgraded to support up to six customizations"

The way that I read this is that you start with 2 and can get another 4 later. My question is A. is this accurate and B. how do you get the other 4?

Question Trying to make fun balenced encounters for a hangover inspired one shot

Trying to adapt an one shot i ran in saga into star wars 5e, just confused as to what t9 use for thugs, cops and cat like critters or even if I can scale down a great dragon to be something the party can handle.

I got an idea for the stormtroopers at the end duo and maybe a cameo or two.

Party is starting at level 3 and will be 3 to 4 players

Question What's the point of the requirement weapons?

So I asked this before and did get a good answer...But in practice I'm just not seeing it.

Short of the absolute demon that is the Sniper Rifle(somehow made a Chiss Consular a card carrying ranged threat) and the Vibrobuster maybe, none of the weapons with requirements really...Do much. Take Vibrokatana, for example. They're a more unwieldy Vibrosword with slightly better accuracy in exchange for slightly worse damage? And we don't really do GWM, so what would be the point there?

Vibronodachi is as lackluster too, it's got a slightly better damage floor than most heavy weapons, but it's functionally a slightly better 2d6 weapon with marginally higher damage.

I understand their point, it's to give value to builds that don't hyperfocus, but...Idk, the reward feels lacking short of a few options. And upgrading these feels redundant because why not upgrade things better than this? It's a case of good concept, bad execution to me I guess. Do you agree? Do you disagree? If agreed, how do you improve them to justify the requirements? All feedback, positive or otherwise, appreciated

Question First time playing, sketch of my Nautolan Sentinel, and a question about force powers

Post image
116 Upvotes

So I've played D&D before but I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the force powers. We are starting a game at level 1 and I have to choose 7 force powers. I have a Nautolan sentinel with a Jedi background, a formfighting dabbler feat, and a high dex/wis build. I want to avoid dark side powers. What are some good at will and first level force powers and how would you recommend splitting the amount of at-will and first-level force powers?

Anyway here is my character. The campaign takes place a couple years after the fall of the Empire, and she has this Jedi/Mandalorian thing going on.

Fun Battle Platform of Vandor

Post image
91 Upvotes

Pretty sure my players won’t see this 😅

So my players are going to be inevitably facing off against a Grand inquisitor in my campaign. I’ve made 7 Inquisitors one of which is a lover of one of my players character who was forced into the dark side and the Empire. Through the use of Nameless blood.

They’ll also be fighting a sentient obelisk that the blood of the Nameless was passed through to change people from non force user to force user.

I’ve been 3D printing for 3 weeks straight make this battle map. It’s going to be a pretty tough encounter.

The platforms rise above a giant dish like device that transmits data.

Any ideas to spice up a battle like this would be awesome.

Let me know what you think!

Fun Reworking the EP7 crawl for the opener of my 2nd sw5e campaign, thoughts ?

Not sure if I can put this here but my first ever campaign for sw5e is wrapping up in a few months and I'm working on my 2nd one for my friends, context currently it's 20aby and they've been dealing with the return of "thrawn" as some of them are fans of the films and TV shows and some of them are fans of the old books I've been working to merge the two together.

"Luke Skywalker has vanished, and the Jedi Order are missing. In their absence, the sinister First Order has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the Jedi, and the New Republic have been destroyed.

The New Republic, still recovering from the Yuuzhan Vong war, is in disarray. Sectors have been lost, and worlds once part of the Republic have joined the First Order, some by choice, others by force. The Senate of the New Republic, not wanting to repeat the mistakes of the past, is unsure how to proceed. While they endlessly debate, the First Order continues its reign of terror.

General Leia Organa Solo has reorganised her Yuuzhan Vong resistance into the Galactic Alliance, as she plans to take on the First Order head-on in the hope of stopping them. She is desperate to find her brother Luke and his wife Mara. She hopes to gain their help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy."

This is what I've got so far.
