Here is my top 9 soundtracks. Each one gave me so many different emotions, just like these films that I consider most of them masterpieces!
My 3 favorite composers are Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota and Henry Mancini (I think it can be seen). And it can also be seen that I love Italian cinema.
To go even further I also made a top Letterboxd of all my favorite soundtracks, if it ever interests some I put the link here : https://boxd.it/LJhgu

Hello, I decided to count all the entries of the subreddit until today (sorry for the users that didn't get to participate). If you are worried that I miscounted, my method was to register the scores with a python program with a voice command, and then asked 3 AIs to register the composers, then I put everything in excel and made the basic statistics and some corrections.
So let's get to the results.
We have basically a tie in first, second and third place:
Interstellar - 21
The Fellowship of the ring - 20
Star Wars IV - 20
(The very last post added 1 to interstellar)
Then we have the rest
TRON: Legacy - 16
How to train your dragon - 16
Jurassic Park - 15
Blade Runner - 14
Star Wars V - 13
Star Wars III - 12
The Dark Knight - 10
Then we have six scores with 9 votes (they're the rest in the images)
And the last two with 8 votes:
- Star Trek The Motion Picture
- The Good, the bad and the ugly
RANKING SAGAS AND TRILOGIES
Star Wars - 50
The Lord of the Rings - 39
Star Trek - 24
Indiana Jones - 20
Harry Potter - 19
Pirates of the Caribbean - 19
Nolan's Batman trilogy - 16
TOP 10 COMPOSERS
John Williams - 154
Hans Zimmer - 120
James Horner - 49
Jerry Goldsmith - 38
Danny Elfman - 34
Howard Shore - 33
James Newton Howard - 33
Ennio Morricone - 26
John Powell - 23
Michael Giacchino - 22
Most voted videogame:
Skyrim
Most voted TV show (tie):
Doctor Who, Game of thrones
The oldest soundtrack:
Gone with the wind (1939)
The newest soundtrack:
Wildwood (2026)
My conclusions:
This result is very much what we were expecting I think, of course there were only 132 entries so the statistics are very poor but still, it pretty much resembles the popular surveys of the type "the Best 100 Soundtracks of all time" like FM or that other radio station that was recently in this subreddit promoting a similar survey and criticizing the FM one, claiming that they're just the most popular scores but not the best scores. I don't think that's true, the same scores will always pop up.
What was interesting and special this time is that we got to see the personal 9 favorites of each of us. Giving space for much less popular scores like Tron Uprising, Good Time, The Road, videogame soundtracks, etc.

Had a hard cutoff year of just out of college. Could easily have also included Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace, but wanted to limit Star Wars to just 1/3 of the list.

Being an 80s kid, the 90s movies left a big impression on me⦠does it show?

For me it was Robin Hood Prince of Thieves by Michael Kamen. Before soundtracks it was Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and some Kraftwerk.

Truth be told I have been loving every single post - I've really enjoyed seeing the mix of scores that resonate with everyone!

This was hard to pick just 9, but here are mine. I have a thing for adventure. Some runner ups include:
Batman (Danny Elfman)
Robocop (Basil Poledouris)
Highlander (Michael Kamen)

This is awfully John Williams heavy, but I don't want to leave out some of those unbelievably classic scores he's produced. (And with Star Wars and Raiders, I'm using one icon for three movies each - the original Star Wars trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones films.) I'm also trying to pick the best single score from each of my favorite composers, if possible, but even here there are multiples - I'd vote for Star Trek III & III and How To Train Your Dragon I & II, for example. And I had to leave out some favorite composers like Michael Giacchino and Hans Zimmer. Still, this kinda captures my faves.

Hans Zimmer dropped the Dune Part 3 'Desert Chant' and I have some thoughts (and a lot of hype π€©π€©)β¦
I made a short analysis video exploring the track if anyone is interested:

Hi everyone. A few weeks ago, I shared the three suites for the first part "Colony", and I was really grateful for the discussions, feedback, and interest from this sub.
I've put together the unreleased cues for the concluding chapter, "End Game" (S02E17), assembled into two chronological suites. All cues were carefully isolated and restored to minimize dialogue and sound effects as cleanly as possible for a dedicated score-listening experience.
You can listen to both parts here:
I think Mark Snow did an extraordinary job here, so I hope you enjoy these suites as much as I do!

There were so many great soundtracks to choose from but these albums are played more often than others in my household. I tried (unsuccesfully) to have some diversity of composers.

Bit of a cop out but I couldn't keep it to just one list, so I've split it into two - 9 that have defined my life and my 9 favourite albums
Star Wars - The first soundtrack I remember being aware of in a film
Lord of the Rings - First soundtrack that really got me into film scores
Pirates of the Caribbean - Specifically At Worlds End, the soundtrack I've listen to in full the most
Tomb Raider: Legends - First video game soundtrack that I listened to on the regular
Assassin's Creed - First soundtrack that really got me into video game scores
Game of Thrones - First soundtrack that really got me into tv show scores
The Avengers - First soundtrack that really got me into superhero scores
Gravity - Has what I would consider the best 15 minutes of film music ever (Tiangong/Shenzou/Gravity)
Arrival - The last time I loved a score enough to buy it on physical media to listen to outside of digital
Choosing my top 9 is tough. Some are givens (LotR, HtTYD, Gravity, PotC) but on another day others couldve snuck up there (Interstellar, Arrival, Star Wars, X-Men First Class, Chicken Run)
