Release I missed Picasa Photo Viewer, so I built Licasa.

Anyone else still miss Google's Picasa photo viewer before google killed it?

I did, so I built Licasa, an open-source image viewer and editor for Linux inspired by that experience. It has just one base aim, show a preview of the image as soon as you click open.

What it does today:

  • Open photos straight from your file manager, fullscreen or in a floating window.
  • Handle modern image formats: HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, JPEG XL and JPEG 2000, alongside JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WebP. It also supports RAW previews.
  • Play Motion Photos and animated APNGs, so there's more to see than a still frame.
  • Crop, adjust and export when a photo needs a quick touch-up.
  • Stay ready for the next photo with an optional background mode for faster repeat opens. It's off by default.

It's free and open source under the BSD 2-Clause license.

Website: https://licasa.app

I'd love feedback from people who miss Picasa too, or just want a straightforward Linux photo viewer. if you try Licasa, I'd be interested in how it handles the photos and formats you actually use, especially opening times on your hardware. Bug reports and contributions are welcome.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I made a free full-page screenshot tool for sharing design feedback

• Upvotes

When I need feedback on a long page, a stack of screenshots makes it hard to tell which comment belongs where. One thing that helps is capturing the whole page first, then adding numbered notes or arrows right on the image. Check the preview for missing images or repeated headers, and blur private details before sharing.

I made Knotflow to make that workflow easier. It captures a full page as a PNG; the editor adds notes, arrows and blur, and it can export a PDF too. Basic capture is free. The editor and PDF are currently free as well, with an email to unlock them. Your captures stay on your computer.

You can find Knotflow by searching the Chrome Web Store. I'd love to hear what works (or breaks) on the pages you use.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I built a pit wall for my dev machine: one menu bar app for all my dev servers and Claude Code sessions (free, open source)

Thumbnail pitwall.aenzenith.com
0 Upvotes

I usually have Claude Code running in four or five projects at once, each with its own dev server. I kept losing track: a session sat on a permission prompt for ten minutes, two servers fought over :5173, and one crashed in a tab I wasn't looking at.

So I built Pitwall. It lives in the menu bar and boils all of that down to three colours: green for a running server, orange for Claude, red when something's down.

What it does

  • Dev servers: start, stop and restart them from the menu bar. If a port is busy, it takes the next free one. If a server crashes, it restarts on its own (and gives up after 3 crashes in a minute). Stopping one kills the whole process tree, so no orphaned vite.
  • Claude Code: you get notified the moment a session finishes or needs your permission, on the desktop or optionally on your phone. One click puts you back in that session.
  • The window: projects grouped into teams, plus a terminal under every page. It splits into panes and can reopen an old Claude session where it left off.
  • ⌥⇧P from anywhere: jump to a project, start it, or jot down a card. Hand a card to Claude and it starts a session with it.
  • Team radio: an MCP server that lets Claude ask Pitwall whether the server is up, read its output, or restart it (macOS/Linux).
  • Also:
    • a Today timeline;
    • Fuel, which shows what's left of your usage limits;
    • a Files window;
    • Garage, for outdated dependencies and pending migrations;
    • a mini tower in the corner of your screen;
    • a pitwall CLI (macOS for now);
    • a VS Code / Cursor extension.
  • ⌘Q shows a chequered flag before you quit: uncommitted work, unpushed commits, sessions still waiting on you, and servers still running.

Free and open source (MIT), for macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows and Linux.

Built with Tauri (Rust + Vue).

Feedback is very welcome, especially from anyone juggling several Claude Code sessions.

Looking for software C-PEN Connect BT10

3 Upvotes

I bought the C-PEN Connect BT10 on eBay, hoping to use it with my computer. I got it and tried to download and find the software for it, but I ran into some trouble. I cannot, for the life of me, find software for PC that will actually connect with this pen. I found an unlisted Android app that I remotely installed, which let the pen work on my phone, but I cannot find a way to get this thing working on my PC. I need help, please and thank you.

Jobs & Education Should I stay in my current backend developer job or join TCS with a 3.5 LPA offer?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I need some career advice. I currently have a TCS offer of 3.5 LPA, and I am working as a Backend Developer at a small company with a salary of 3 LPA.

Here is my situation:

- I joined my current company during my B.Tech 4th year, 2nd semester.

- I have completed 8 months of backend development experience.

- I recently graduated.

- My current company does not provide a PF account.

- I am gaining practical backend development experience, but I am also considering looking for better job opportunities.

I am confused about whether I should stay in my current company, continue my job search for better backend developer roles, or leave and join TCS.

The salary difference between my current job and the TCS offer is only ₹50,000 per year.

My questions:

  1. Will not having a PF account create problems during background verification or future job applications?

  2. Should I join TCS or continue searching for better backend developer opportunities?

  3. With 8 months of experience, is it realistic to find a backend developer job with a better package?

  4. What would be the best decision for my long-term career growth?

I would appreciate honest advice from people working in the IT industry, especially those who have experience with TCS or have switched jobs early in their careers.

Thank you!

Release KillerShot, an open source encrypted screenshot album that replaces Snipping Tool

0 Upvotes

Snipping Tool froze on me one too many times, so I got pissed off again and built my own.

It takes over Print Screen (region, window, monitor, all monitors, recording), freezes the desktop so menus stay in the shot, and drops everything into an encrypted album you can search by the text inside the pictures. It also has an editor with real redaction, MP4/GIF recording, a CLI, and works with KillerMCP.

Same deal as the rest of the Killer Apps family: free, GPLv3, no account, no telemetry. Same themes and languages too. The latest language is Slovenian bringing the languages up to twenty now.

https://killershot.net

Let me know what breaks. There will be bugs and I'm stretching myself pretty thin these days so bug reports and feature requests are helpful.

I also have a ton of other new stuff coming out soon...

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Aura Dock is, your apps, tucked into the edge of your screen

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all,

I've been quietly working on something new.

Aura Dock is a small launcher that lives on the edge of your screen. Your home screen stays clean, with just a thin glow on the edge. Swipe it and your apps and folders slide out. You can add handles on any edge, change their colour, animation and size, or make one completely invisible: nothing on the screen at all, and when you swipe where you know it is, it opens on glass.

The video above shows it in action.

It also works alongside Aura. The two apps share the edges, so the dock keeps out of the way of your notification glows.

link to aura dock: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.polyhistor.auradock

Honestly, thank you all for the support. Your feedback on Aura shaped a lot of this one. If you know someone whose home screen is drowning in icons, I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with them. It helps a solo dev more than you'd think.

Thanks again ❤️

Release FrameRate: a lightweight FPS & hardware overlay inspired by classic Rainmeter skins

0 Upvotes

Got tired of bloated overlay apps just to see my FPS and temps, and I always loved the classic Rainmeter dark glass look, so I built FrameRate.

It's a tiny native Windows overlay with 3 built-in HUDs:

- Core HUD: FPS counter, live frame time graph, and CPU/GPU/RAM ring gauges

- System Bars: Classic compact CPU / RAM / SWAP progress bars

- Competitive Micro-Bar: Minimal single-line strip (`FPS | 1% Low | MS | GPU temp`)

It sits in your system tray, stays out of Alt+Tab, and lets you drag or pin HUDs on top of your games.

Let me know what you think!

Other Can an AI app builder replace Airtable for a more custom internal tool?

1 Upvotes

I like the simplicity of Airtable but I keep running into limits around permissions, user roles and more customized workflows.

Instead of finding another spreadsheet-style database, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to build a lightweight internal app around the data with AI.

Has anyone gone this route for a tool that needs proper RBAC and user management?

Release I made a free, open-source voice typing app that runs offline and types into any app

Thumbnail gallery
34 Upvotes

Edit: I undersold the part I'm proudest of. With the Android app you can watch your PC's screen live from your phone, from any network, dictate or type into a window you pick, ask your PC's assistant, and run voice commands on it. The PC has to approve each phone first, the live video is end-to-end encrypted over WebRTC, and speech and the assistant can run fully locally with no API key. (Live view needs a Windows PC for now.)

Hi all, I'm the developer of Talvio, so full disclosure that this is my own project.

I write a lot (emails, Slack, code comments) and Windows' built-in voice typing kept stopping every time I paused to think. The good alternatives are subscriptions that send your audio to their servers. So I built my own.

How it works: hold Ctrl+Win, talk, let go. The text gets typed wherever your cursor is, in any app. Speech recognition runs on your own machine (Whisper, Parakeet and others, on your GPU if you have one), so it works offline and there's no account needed.

Some other things it does:

- Ask out loud: a second shortcut asks an assistant a question and it answers by voice. It can read the text you have selected, so "translate this" or "reply to this" works.

- Voice commands: "play Believer on YouTube", "turn the volume down", "email Ram that I'm running late"

- Meeting notes: records your mic and the call audio as separate lanes and writes notes afterwards

- Phone as a mic: the Android app lets you dictate into your PC from across the room

The AI features use your own API key, a local model, or the $1 of free credit you get if you sign in. Plain dictation needs none of that.

Windows and Linux builds are out now, macOS is coming. MIT licensed.

GitHub: https://github.com/ishangautam7/Talvio

It's still early, so bug reports are very welcome.

Other Recommending DeskFlow

Thumbnail github.com
0 Upvotes

Not affiliated in any way. Came across Deskflow today looking for a decent KVM/KB/USB switch. Saved me like $60.

What it does: Use one mouse and keyboard across multiple physical computers (not screens, computers). My home office situation is niche in that I need access to multiple computers at the same time but I have individual monitors for all of them. This program lets me use them as easily as if I'm just using multiple monitors on one PC. It seems to be able to support up to 9 systems (1 acting as keyboard/mouse server, plus 8 clients), though I don't know what impact on performance there'd be.

Why I love it: I don't have to do anything "extra" to use a keyboard on another machine; I just move my mouse to that screen, no needing to click, and voila, that's where my keyboard also works.

Where to get it: GitHub. Available for Linux and Windows. Maybe Mac OS?

Grats and thanks to the Deskflow team and contributors. That's all. Don't really have much else to say.
