Do y'all's snails just intensely stare at you sometimes and you sit there and wonder what's up and it turns out their hungry so now you're having desk time because you spilled dry food and it turns out that's exactly what they want?? Yeah, me too 😭

Also! It's been a long time since I've updated but Sheila is doing amazing!! Hard shell, constant source of Calcium, still picky when it comes to food though I've found some things that work and are good for her ❤️ Thank y'all again for helping me when her shell tore. She's doing fantastic and has had a MASSIVE growth spurt since then!

Click here to see my original post. Please read that before this one!

So he seems a little better. He was fully retracted earlier, but came out of his shell as soon as he felt something change.

I took this video a couple minutes ago. As you can see, there's still a little wobble going on, but not as badly as it was two days ago. I took another video like two minutes later where the wobble was pretty much gone, but unfortunately I can only post 1 video... In case there's a way around it, please share. I've got a couple other videos on this topic I'd like to share for more information.

So to sum it up, he's very active, but is able to retract fully. He still has a slight eye wobble, but not constantly (most of the time he seems fine).

I don't know if this is something I should be worried about or not...

I also have another snail that's been doing weird things.

I intended to add some videos of her in this post as well, but I can't so I'm just going to describe it.

These two are the only ones of my snails that don't have names yet, since they're still pretty young and I haven't found good names for them yet, so it's just gonna be "he" and "she" for now.

These past 2-3 days, I've noticed that she's been moving significantly slower. When she moves, it literally looks like she's moving in slow motion. Like a cartoon snail or something.

This might sound like a silly thing to worry about, but she was moving normally before, and now it's been a couple of days where, every time I saw her move, it was ridiculously slow. If she moves at all...

She's also been doing a lot of "freezing". She's fully out and looks completely normal, like she's just crawling around, except she's not...

I've watched her sit like that a couple of times in the last few days. She's always completely out and looking like she's being active, sometimes her head is even in the air and it looks like she's looking around, but then she doesn't actually look around and just stays in that position completely still. Sometimes for several minutes. It's actually kinda creepy.

When I poke her, she does retract, although I haven't seen her fully retract yet, since I didn't want to bother her too much.

Since both of these started around the same time, I'm actually a little worried now, that there is something bigger going on... Or I just have two very weird snails, I don't know.

Does anyone know about snail health and can tell me if this could be signs of something being wrong?

I just checked on the snails again, and I noticed one of the babys also doing a weird eye bending. Not wobbling, just bending, like they sometimes do when the humidity is too high or something, but only with one eye. That made me think of another snail that did a similar thing with both his eyes going in two completely different directions, but he was mating at the time, and I thought he was just making a funny mating face or something.

All of these things combined kinda make me think that there's actually something wrong... But I have no clue what!

The temperature is around 20°c and the humidity varies between 45-60%. Most of the time it's around 50%.

I feed them regularly with zucchini and sweet potato, and every now and then they get some protein (I make a protein mix with mealworms, shrimps, pea flakes and algae. I crush all of them into a powder and then mix it with water when I feed it to the snails) and nothing has changed in their enclosure.

The only thing I can think of right now, what could maybe be a problem, is that I sometimes have the heater on in my room, and sometimes I don't, so maybe there's sudden temperature changes? But the heater is all the way on the other side of my room, so I didn't think that the temperature changed as much for them. I'll check that later once my room has heated back up. Edit: I checked it last night and the temperature difference is like 1-2°c, so I don't think that's the issue.

Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated!

My Snails Hooman, my pool is empty!

Yes I did refill it!

This is CC (Car Crash, for long) my rescued snail! She's doing great, her setup gets regular upgrades as I get her settled in. This morning she wanted me to be aware that her "pool" is empty. This is the cover of a random bottle that I grabbed when I was mid-rescue. It's ~1.5 inches across, for scale. I guess that's the next thing I'm upgrading!

He did a little wobbly bobbly dance yesterday 👀

Does anyone know why he's doing this?

I think it's super cute, but I'm a little worried that there might be something wrong with him. Especially since his left eye stem (our right) seems to be a little bent.

He's been behaving normally, I've seen him out of his shell twice since then and both times, there was no wobbling, but he was eating both times, so maybe he was focused on eating or something?

Since he seems fine otherwise, I don't think it's something serious, but if anyone knows why he is doing this, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise just enjoy his little eye dance!

Update: I just checked on him and he seems to be sleeping, but outside of his shell. He's fully out, his right eye is just the little stem, but the left eye is completely out. I'm getting maybe a little bit worried now. I know that they sometimes do this and it can be normal, but combined with the wobbling and the bent eye, I'm a little unsure...

Help Snail Question

Usually snails bury themselves to lay eggs but my guy Elderberry was like actively crawling while popping out eggs. Is that normal? Like I thought he was just Shorny, but nope it was an egg lol. They were just randomly all over the place. 🤷‍♀️ he wasn’t stressed or anything bro was just crawling and popping lol. Did it just happen so fast bro was like F it they going everywhere?

I’m planning to put this in my coco substrate, Google said it’s fine but I wanted to know if anyone’s had any bad experiences? I’m also having a hard time figuring out how much I should mix in.

What time of year do snails lay eggs? Cause I'm almost certain I saw some snail eggs in the forest yesterday. That doesn't make much sense to me though. Wouldn't they only make eggs around spring?

I found this little snail on a concrete wall that had too much light and since I love snails and I always wanted to have one as a pet, I took it home. I made this little enclosure with the budget I had since I'm a student but I would like to know if I can improve it and if it is okay for now. I gave it a little of banana to eat and it seemed happy but now it's not moving much so im a bit worried. Thoughts?

Help Parasitic Mites!

Hi all,

My little snail, Pudding, has mites! Last night I noticed movement on their shell and around the area of their breathing hole, and upon shining my flashlight on them I saw that they looked like tiny white bugs. I've done a bit of research, and I am certain these are the parasitic ones that live in their lung/breathing hole.

I have since gave Pudding a 'bath', washed out their enclosure, and thrown out everything that was in it. Pudding is currently in a smaller enclosure with damp paper towels, washed lettuce, and a tiny bowl of water (too small for them to drown in).

I just checked in on them and noticed that the mites are still there, which I did expect. I read that one of the best ways to get rid of these parasitic mites is to introduce predatory mites to cannibalise them. Other than this, is there any other way of getting rid of them?

Also, does anyone know how Pudding might have gotten these mites? I found them climbing into my house via an open window two months ago, and I had never noticed them before. I check on Pudding every day to mist and feed them, so I feel like I would have seen the mites had they had them from the start? I did get lazy the past couple of days and opted not to wash their veggies. Do you think that might be how they got mites?

I'm in the UK.

Thank you in advance for any advice!
