[Modpost] Let's have a discussion concerning hunting and killing.

As the main moderator here, I've been struggling with this.

On one hand, hunting is one of the main reasons people use slingshots. On the other hand, just going out and killing whatever you can hit is pretty morally shady.

If you're hunting for food or hunting pests, you're pretty much golden. We just don't want new users to go out with their brand new slingshots and say, severely but not mortally wound a squirrel- leaving it hiding somewhere in pain for hours until it dies. This is sad and happens a lot.

If you are game or even pest hunting, you need to be able to be accurate enough to be humane. Practice.

One more thing, be familiar with invasive species or pests in your area and know what species are protected. You do not want to be fined for killing a protected species but killing pests is usually pretty socially acceptable.

My first idea is to have a separate Slingshot Hunting subreddit, where users can gain tiered trophies showing they're responsible and practiced. I'm not sure though.

Thoughts?

News Now Allowing Sales and Trades

Hey lads, a bit behind with this one. I recently put out a survey to get a feel for everyone's thoughts on allowing sales and trades post on the sub. An overwhelming majority were in favor. So I added some new flares. WTT (want to trade) WTB (want to buy) and SALE (for sale). Let's be respectful and responsible moving forward with this and see how things pan out. Be safe and be confident in any transactions you make and of course reach out if you have any concerns. I'm thinking of seeing how things pan out and if need be, we can make adjustments or place guidelines as needed.

Would this frame be too small to work? Wanted to run flat bands over the top

EDCing a large/heavy frame.

I was using a pouch on my belt to carry my chunky Gungnir but it was just an extra thing to catch on undergrowth when in the woods and the weight was still pulling my trousers down even with a good belt. I switched to a simple, generic chest pouch and it's become a regularly used bit of kit, not just for larger frames. It also carries a Silky Pocket Boy, a CS Finn Wolf, a Leatherman Rebar, some bank line and paracord, a small first aid kit, plus a few extras. With all that it'll take one large, or 2, or even 3, compact frames, with no need to take my back pack off to get to this stuff. I do have to be careful not to trap my beard in the zip though.

Your 8mm steel setup? And why do I get band scratches on the right band?

So I used some 30-15 but mostly 25-20 .4 mm snipersling black, piaoyu and precise, I had an old simpleshot torque and a newer simpleshot torque. On both frames my bands last 50-100 shots before the scratches become too big to continue safe shooting. I cleaned up all the factory mold sharp parts, wrapped the right fork in ribbon, office tape, shot with bare fingers, with gloves, with finger bandslap protectors, on really weak bands and on powerful bands, nothing solved the band scratches on the right band. Used 2 types of pouches, snipersling 8mm pouch mostly. On both frames scratches destroy my bands. Now I switched to 3D printed Goblet evo model, and I don't get the scratches (although for now I just have weak bands on, and I still get handslap so I use finger protectors, which weren't the cause of scratches). My fork tips are now less than 25mm wide instead of 30mm. Which band taper and thickness do I use? I shoot short draw at 20m and I would like a lot of speed, which setup for 24mm fork width and 8mm steel short draw gives maximum speed? I'd like to be able to humanely take out bird pests at 20m (my accuracy is definitely sufficient) and I would like all the power I can get. Thanks.

I made a slingshot with carvings. It's made of deer antlers. What do you guys think about this?

Haven’t shot this frame much since I got it as I was dialled into and shooting 85mm frames for a bit. Back in the groove with 90mm now and snipersling doesn’t disappoint. Looking at pulling the trigger on the B-Swan C now for my brace grip. 🤔

How to retie this old rubber band slingshot?

Post image

Had this old slingshot for a few years when it somehow got untied and undone like this. How would one tie it back through the hole and back onto the arm? (Trying to squeeze it back through the hole is also proving to be a big pain)

Plumber’s attempt

I never owned a slingshot. I spontaneously decided to try and use my plumbing skills to make a slingshot. It’s heavy, but that’s probably a good thing.

Weather in Birmingham today has been horrendous but I managed to get a tripod cheap to mount my catchbox down in house side alley.

Great under there as it’s sheltered from wind and rain.
Just need a decent solar light to throw a bit of brightness down there.
Anyway, ripped the monster can and started on another

Grenade launching slingshot?

I was watching some combat footage and the poor guy had to run out into the open to throw a grenade far enough, and I imagined an oversized sling shot would have launched the grenade far, and silently. Accurate too. Anybody seen anything like that?

made this from 12mm aged carbon steel, english yew burl, custom micarta and brass pins. A heavy hitter with virtually no recoil - can take (and deal) a lot of abuse. Good fun!

Simple Make-Your-Own Ammo Recipe

After alot of experimenting I thought I'd document this method incase it helps others.

Super cheap, no equipment needed, great quality ammo and accessible to anyone.

I have been doing this for months and haven't had a single ball fail early, they are accurate and explode nicely.

It takes me 1 hour to create approx 0.9g x 420 clay balls at $3US.

Happy ballin'

Going to order a roll of either gzk green or snipersling black, would .6 thickness be ok for 8mm steel? Cheers
