Well after two episodes of Yuri and Kail overcoming obstacles as a love dovey power couple, a new conspiracy unfolds.
I will say that Nakia has been a very good antagonist. Nakia the big bad who has lots of power but has lackey’s doing the evil deeds on her behalf. Usually when it comes to that kind of antagonist, they don’t feel particularly menacing. Nakia did feel a little like that at the beginning, but as the series progressed we see just how menacing she is. The plots that Nakia hatched before this episode are as follows:
Abducted Yuri from her home and century with the goal to sacrifice her. She was even going to do it in front of an audience.
Had Tito killed because he saved Yuri.
Instigated an attack on Alinna to separate Yuri and Kail
Had Yuri poisoned with something that causes a death like state to steal her “corpse”.
Tried to obtain a mind controlling talisman
Had Kail’s infiltration campaign for Malataya sabotaged.
Had Zannanza assassinated.
Raised a false Ishtar to smear Yuri and by extension Kail’s reputations.
Instigated a false love child to try and tear Yuri and Kail apart
Each one of these schemes shows just how ruthless Nakia is, and people have died in them. Furthermore, each one is unique. This conspiracy was the greatest one yet as revealed at the end of the episode. Nakia exploited Kail’s caution and Yuri’s restlessness. She had the kind assassinated and the only hiccup in her plot was Judah’s presence.
Judah has a good head on his shoulders. He knows what his mother is capable of. When Yuri asked for his help in foiling his mother’s plot, while shocked Judah readily accepted that his mother would do this. He doesn’t want anything to do with what his mother is doing. Then Nakia uses mind control on her own son to achieve her goals. Talk about a dysfunctional family.
This episode did a great job really showing how awful and dangerous Nakia is. Nakia is willing to stoop any level to get what she wants, but always has others pay the price for it.
Now that that is settled. The most tender moment in the show wasn’t Kail and Yuri for once. It was Ursula and Kash. While quick, it’s sweet to see those two become a couple. Especially since it took some nudging from Yuri.
If you don’t mind a spoiler (Red River) another couple forms. If you want to know more (Red River) it’s Kikkurri and one of the twins.
While the king meant well what he was telling Yuri is once more making her feel that she’s not adequate to be with Kail. Yuri doesn’t think she’s capable enough to actually be Kail’s consort. I think this is in part because there’s still a part of Yuri that doesn’t feel like she belongs there. Yuri has become used to life in the Hittite Empire. She has friends, she has a horse, she has the admiration and respect of many, and she has a handsome prince absolutely enraptured with her. Yuri sees this as temporary and that she has to return to her own time and place. It’s beginning to feel less like a desire and more like an obligation.
Finally, Ramses. Ramses doesn’t work for free, and when he sets his mind on something he doesn’t give up easily. Ramses made his intentions clear when he said he’d be back for more. Furthermore, he sees the dysfunciton and strife of the Hittite court as a source of entertainment to him. Ramses is a wild card.
