People always praise RE7 and RE4 for reviving the series and bringing players back, but as soon as you say you didn't play the OG games and instead started with the remakes, there are a bunch of people who say you aren't a true fan.
People who ask how to adapt to the older mechanics often get responses like "get used to it" or "modern fans won't understand." I mean, Resident Evil 4 released in 2005. It's been more than 20 years since fixed camera angles and tank controls were the norm, and a large part of the player base is younger than 20. I've even seen people jokingly call Resident Evil 4 a spin-off game.
I feel like this is extremely pretentious and has a lot to do with gatekeeping. Even when it comes to the movies, if something doesn't fit their perfect idea of what a Resident Evil game or movie should be, they hate it and act like it's the worst thing ever made.
This franchise is amazing and has grown so much because it offers a bit of everything for everyone: action, survival horror, classic games, remakes, movies, etc. There's something for everyone to enjoy, but being pretentious and gatekeeping only ruins that.
