CECHA01 Frankenstein on Evilnat 4.92/Cobra 8.5 — Internet Connection Test fails with 80710806. Would updating to 4.93 fix this?
Hey everyone,
I have a Sony PS3 CECHA01 Frankenstein that was serviced by Computer Booter. I'm currently running Evilnat CFW 4.92, and I'm trying to figure out whether my networking problem is firmware-related before I make any changes.
My current firmware information:
Console: Sony CECHA01, backwards-compatible fat PS3 Frankenstein
System Software shown in XMB: 4.92
Custom Firmware Tools → Cobra Tools → Cobra Information:
CEX Cobra
Cobra version 8.5
Cobra FW version 4.92
Syscall 8 enabled
External Cobra disabled
The problem:
When I run the PS3's built-in Internet Connection Test using Ethernet, I get:
Obtain IP Address: Succeeded
Internet Connection: Failed
Error: 80710806 — The connection to the server timed out
Here's what I've tested so far:
Used my known-working blue Ethernet cable, which works with my PS5.
Confirmed the router's Ethernet port shows a green link light when the PS3 is connected.
The PS3 successfully obtains an IP address.
The PS3's Internet Browser can load Yahoo and display article headlines and text, although some images don't load properly.
Despite this, the PS3's built-in Internet Connection Test still fails.
The browser results make me think the console can reach the Internet, but I'm not sure why the connection test fails.
I also came across a Reddit discussion where someone with a Frankenstein PS3 couldn't connect through Ethernet or Wi-Fi on Evilnat 4.92. Another user suggested downloading the latest Evilnat build with Wi-Fi and BD support and updating offline through USB, mentioning that something may have broken in an earlier version when online CFW updates were introduced.
My questions:
Has anyone experienced this specific 80710806 error on Evilnat 4.92/Cobra 8.5, particularly on a CECHA01 Frankenstein?
Is there a known networking bug in Evilnat 4.92 that an offline CFW update fixes?
Would updating to Evilnat 4.93 be a reasonable next step? If so, which exact build should I use for a normal CEX console?
Given that my PS3 obtains an IP address and can load Yahoo content, does this sound more like a firmware/software issue than a faulty network board?
Are there any precautions I should take before updating CFW on a Frankenstein console?
I haven't updated anything yet. I'm considering backing up my EID0 root key first, then updating through USB rather than using the PS3's network updater.
I'm not concerned about PSN access or online gaming. I simply want the PS3's Internet connection to work properly through Ethernet or Wi-Fi. I'd prefer to resolve this without formatting the HDD, reinstalling OFW, or opening the console unnecessarily.
I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has encountered this issue or has experience with Evilnat on a Frankenstein PS3. Thanks!
