Endgame spoilers Creation myth and origins of the races

• Upvotes

Hello, I'm fairly new to the games, but I recently completed PoE1 and started the second on.

The revelation in the ending was amazing, but I have some questions: since the gods are an artificial creation who or what created Eora? I don't remember seeing or reading creation myths, and also how did the various races came to be ?

Excluding the god-like who of course came later (and I have some theories about them, but I'll see if they are true in Deadfire, since I'm a seeing a lot of content regarding them in the game), how did elfs, dwarves, orlans and humans appeared? It doesn't seems like there was a more ancient race between them; the Engwithan was not a singular race empire, but it was multi-races from my understanding.

Are there some answers that I missed? Are they in Deadfire? Or simply we don't know? If so I would like to hear your theories.

What is the ultimate interruptor build?

I had to respec one of my companions to beat Best of Winter and now I'm wondering what would be an ultimate build to casually strip concentration stacks and interrupt whatever the boss is trying to do?

PoE2: Deadfire Stutter Fix (Made with Claude)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Same ship boarding fight, same save: 22 stutters on the stock game vs 0 with DXVK + Stutter Fix.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP_sYt9FiNM

Download, source code and full test log (open source, MIT):
https://github.com/SSS-today/Deadfire...

How to install (3 minutes):

  1. Download BepInEx 5 (win x64 zip) and extract it into the game folder (Steam: right-click the game - Manage - Browse local files).
  2. Download DXVK (github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases) and copy d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll from its x64 folder into the game folder. The fix is meant to be used together with DXVK: on plain DX11 it is not smooth.
  3. Start the game once, then quit at the main menu.
  4. Download DeadfireStutterFix.dll from the GitHub Releases page and put it in BepInEx\plugins.
  5. Play.
  6. To uninstall, delete DeadfireStutterFix.dll (and d3d11.dll + dxgi.dll for DXVK).

What it fixes:

  • Garbage collector freezes in fights (100-170 ms each)
  • Corpse colliders built mid-fight (22-44 ms per corpse)
  • Combat tooltips piling up with every reload
  • The ~100 ms freeze in the first fight after launching the game

Discussion RP Grieving mother in party

"This is my party. It's 5 of us and we go on adventures. There's also some old woman that follows us around. Never talks. Just sits there harvesting vegetables. Totally not important or relevant. Completely normal to see old women in dragon caves and such."

Annoying bugs (that weren't there years before)

I've been replaying the first game, and I find Hard so much more enjoyable with turn-based combat (RTWP works fine on normal, but above that you get constant pausing without discrete intervals, basically the worst of both). But I have come up against various bugs that I don't remember from when I first played it, years back:

-Enemies who don't act (but they still get turns that drag on).

-A single attack get repeated until the target dies.

-Kana doesn't chant.

-During the battle of Yenwood, the enemies attacked each other.

-The worst: Hiravias lost his armor and weapon, and in its place were invisible items labelled "Spiritshift Hide" and "Druid Cat Claws". The rest are nuisances, but this one is a real problem that could make him unplayable.

Has anyone made unofficial patches for these?

Discussion How long to beat?

I’m playing 2 right now and I feel like I’m about halfway through. I look up how long the game is supposed to take, says full completion in under 100 hours, I’m at 96 hours and I just went to Hasongo. Old posts have people saying they beat the game in 30-40 hours. The first game says it should also take about 100 hours for full completion, it took me 300 hours.

How am I so much slower? I drive my boat to a place, explore it and leave, fight any bounties I see on the way. I’m not even reading all the stuff, just skim most of the books to see if there’s anything important. I’ve fought some red skulled enemies that took some time to kill, but most fights are fairly quick. I dunno, just feels like I’m doing something wrong taking sooo much longer.

PoE1 i finished pillars of eternity my thoughts on this game ....

Finished after 85 hours on Hard with a Rogue. Pretty damn long game if you like reading everything...

Positives:

  • A huge, extremely dense, well crafted complex, and fully original world.
  • An incredible cast of companions.
  • A really well-made gameplay system and classes.
  • Pretty as fuck.
  • A shit ton of text and superb writing overall. I've never seen a game with this level of writing. English isn't my first language, but I've played a lot of games and consume a lot of content in English, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't struggle with a lot of the words like never before.
  • Overall great story i think the game convey a great messages about the "gods"
  • I felt like this game had a mixed approach into crpg because its the most text heavy crpg i played with planescape you're not forced to read everything but you miss on a lot if you don't imo it gives context to everything. but at the same time its not as text heavy as a planescape because you still have lot's of combats and stuff i'd be curious to know how many words poe has?

Cons:

  • The world of POE is really, really hard to get into. It takes a lot of hours because of all the weird terms, deity-related vocabulary, nations, etc. There should have been a global map showing where all these empires we keep hearing about are located. That alone would have solved most of my problems and made the whole mess much easier to visualize. That's probably my biggest issue with the game. Sagani talks about where she's from, and I have no idea where that is. Same goes for the other empires, etc. Most CRPGs take place in one location: Sigil, a desert, an island, or a huge city and its surrounding area. This game, on the other hand, has a huge geopolitical scale, but I really struggled to understand it or get invested in it. In my head, there's the Dyrwood, Twin Elms, and... the rest. I have no idea where everything else is. Are these places close to one another? If not, how far apart are they?
  • Way too easy. Too much XP gained from quests, only one dungeon, and a severe lack of bosses. The only really hard fights are against the three dragons, where you can actually go all out and strategize.
  • I haven't played that DLC, but it sounds absolutely ridiculous. You're supposedly meant to play it around levels 8–9, but if you do, it completely breaks the game's balance when you return to the main quest. So what's the point of the DLC, really? You play through half the rest of the game, and there's no meaningful challenge waiting for you afterward (not that there are many to begin with), because you're now higher-level and have even more overpowered items in a game that already lacks balance. Seems stupid to me...

I liked the ending, but it just felt underwhelming? I don't know, tell me if I'm wrong, but it just felt rushed to me. And I'm saying this as someone who loved Arcanum, which supposedly had a rushed ending. This one just doesn't leave me with a satisfying feeling after everything we've been through when i look back at it the whole main intrigue is actually surprisingly short? maybe i expected more density.

Anyways super excited about poe 2 idk how it scomparesto the first one heard the gameplay was best in the genre. but i want to play tyrany and tides of numera first.

PoE1 Thoughts after finishing Poe 1 first time from a CRPG newbie-ish guy

Systems:

I love the stats system, there being no dump stats makes character building quite different from other games where you may brick your character at any point during the game, looking... nay... staring at you pathfinder. I feel I could make any character I could envision in my mind and it works right out the gate. Give a wizard a warhammer and he can oil up the ground and bash some skulls in or a rogue with a greatsword which can still somehow "sneak attack". Ofcourse these may or may not work in the highest difficulty, but still you can do most goofy stuff without gimping your character.

I don't know what to feel about the weapons, on one hand you could enchant your favourite weapon to always keep it viable, on the other hand most weapons end up the same. Soulbounds are the actual unique weapons imo, I was always excited to see what will become of one, leveling them can sometimes be a pain in the ass though. Also you are always encouraged to have a good alternate set of weapons to counter your immunities and therefore the A and B tier weapons are not rotting in your stash, and you wont be disappointed choosing a certain weapon type as all of them with have enough variety(some more than others).

Health/endurance system is much more preferable than a single health bar. I don't have to rest everytime my wizard gets shanked by a teleporting goon. Speaking of rests, I don't like casters still using a rest system. They go from going full nova bringing the wrath of the gods upon the unbelievers on one fight to holding their limp dick and asking for a wank and a nap after few battles.

Crafting is serviceable.

Combat:

Sorry to start this on a negative note but bro, the clutter, damn I can't see shit happening in mid to late game battles sometimes. The more casters in battle the worse it gets. I don't know why other battle speeds exists other than slow, even then I have to pause so much that it is a slideshow simulator. This is exacerbated due to fact I can't hover over the enemy tooltip and see what buffs they have or the spell they are casting, I mean I can see the icon, but I don't know what that does if I do not have the spell myself.

This is totally a skill issue from my end, but I find it tedious microing 6 different party members. It's not like they're any less complex from a regular tabletop character, and you control 6 of them. The brunt of the damage caused by the lack of my attention span was borne by Sagani and her fox, THE SEVENTH THING I HAVE TO CONTROL, goddamn that bonded grief debuff. And you ask why not choose another character, and I say I like my rangers actually being strong and not the abomination D&D has created. The benefit of having a larger group is that you get to have more interactions between them, but they run out of them quite early in this game.

On to the good stuff.

The Foe aoe is a lifesaver (literally), I'm happy to announce this is my first game where a mage did not blow up a party member. Good design especially considering this is a RTwP game and units don't stay still for me to perfectly align my fireball. I also like that you can't prebuff before combat, keeps the enemy's capabilities reasonable. When they are designed against your prebuffed party they tend to be obnoxious, again looking at you pathfinder.

I really like the d100 system it uses for calculating hits. It allowed for grazes instead of just hits or misses, and also a reliable way to ensure making a crit build viable, instead of just getting lucky once in a blue moon. Also attacks and spells using the same hit system makes the game much easier to understand.

You can have a mage with a GUN, nuff said.

We as rpg players know that one of the reasons we play rpgs is to start as a level 1 mewling and toil our way to max level and challenge the powerful beings of the world and POE absolutely delivers. I LOVE the endgame battles, especially with the dragons and the archmages. Facing Llengrath after using spells named by her, facing Concelhaut after using his staff for the most of the game just hits different. Creating the hammer and critting the eyeless into oblivion will be one of the most memorable parts of the game. Epicness 10/10.

Story:

Honestly I thought the main story was a slog at times(Act 3) while White march 1+2 were great. I don't mesh well with philosophical quandaries and some of the main story mayhaps went over my head, I did not care much about Thaos's motive only wanted to bust his ass for stealing the souls. Whereas I was invested in WM the entire way, in part 1 I wanted the sweet durgan loot myself so I was interested getting into the battery and helping others along the way. In part 2, didn't want the town to suffer due to my actions and was again invested to find a way out for them. Also most of the best combat encounters were in WM 1+2.

Overall, I quite enjoyed my time playing poe1 especially the WM sections, looking forward to see the changes made in poe2 and facing more archmages and dragons(or their equivalents). Thanks for reading.

Help pls - Icons/Symbols next to the portraits - Console Player

Post image
27 Upvotes

heyho, for a long time I got to see some specific icons/symbols next to the portraits of my group. I guess it's some buff/debuff information. So far, it was only this "sun" symbol which I thought might be the resting bonus and for Eder there's always been this "shield" icon which I thought is just related to some of his tank ability... anyways, since last Caed Nua visit (incl rest), its just getting more, like this red and blue dudes and I don't understand their meaning (also, why does my main char does not have the blue one?)

Is there maybe a list or something that describe the meaning of these icons? since I'm playing on console I also can't just hover with a mouse (at least I don't know how)

Can someone help? 🥲 tried to Google and also used Reddit search but wasn't able to find proper info....

PoE1 How do you build Chanter in turn based mode?

New player, just found a third companion, how do you build Chanter for turn based?

I was going for a melee dps support and there seems to be some issues. The linger turn doesn't increase with INT, my buffs fall off before turn end, sometimes enemies escape stun and get a second turn again.

My stat spread was 14,10,16,14,14,10. Am I doing something wrong? Are there any breakpoints I missed.

I want to get quick turns to stack chants and invocations as much as possible.

Should I be skipping my turns till I have 3 to do that instead of attacking? Should I be wearing cloth armor to maximise turns?

Side quest spoilers Eh, I probably shouldn't be trying to take on Wymund at Level 5, right?

So, while looking for the elven lord’s daughter, I grew quite suspicious of the tower behind the leatherworker’s shop. Just to test things out, I forced my way in, and to my surprise, there was a massive dungeon beneath the place. Exploring it was quite interesting, as I was able to learn more about (and be thoroughly horrified by) the methods used by the followers of Skaen, seriously, this felt like something straight out of 40K... especially the blood fountain. Then, my mind was completely blown by the revelation that the girl was actually his niece, and, well... you know what happened. Playing as a Cipher, I’m trying to go for the option to free her from both Wymund and the elven lord(I’ve forgotten his name) but defeating him is proving extremely difficult. My party is currently at level 5, and I’m starting to think I shouldn’t have come here so soon... (yeah, I arrived here before even exploring Defiance Bay).

Eternity Keeper (the Pillars of Eternity save editor) 1.1.0 beta is out

Hi everyone!

A couple of weeks ago I posted the 1.0 release of Eternity Keeper, the free save editor for Pillars of Eternity. Thank you for trying it, and for the comments and bug reports! Version 1.1.0 beta is out now.

Download 1.1.0 beta · Project page

What's new

  • Find your save quickly. The save list now has a filter box (search by character, area, save name, date, difficulty or chapter), sorts by newest, oldest or name, and can show your saves as tiles or as a compact list. It remembers the layout you picked.
  • Companions' names in your game's language. Edér, the Grieving Mother and the rest now appear the way your game names them, everywhere in the editor. A name you gave a companion yourself is kept.
  • Saves open in about half the time. Nothing changes in what gets written: I checked every file of a save, byte for byte, against the previous version and against the game's own files.
  • A refreshed look: clearer panels and buttons, smoother switching between tabs, and error messages you can close.
  • Fixed: in light mode, party members' names on the Inventory tab turned white (and unreadable) under the mouse.

Fixed since the first post

If the editor told you it couldn't read your game data, so you couldn't edit spells and abilities, that's fixed. It happened on fresh installs, GOG especially: the editor was looking for a file that only older, long-updated Steam installs still have. Thanks to the person who reported it here! It also corrected two stronghold upgrade prices that showed wrong.

Updating

Run the new installer over the old version, or extract the new zip. Your settings and save backups are kept. If you had the game-data problem above, let it read your game data once more when it offers to (or choose Read game data in Settings).

As before: the editor never changes the save you open. Pressing Save writes a new save next to it. It's still a beta, so keep a copy of your saves folder.

Feedback

Ideas and bug reports are very welcome, here or as an issue on GitHub. Attaching eternity.log helps a lot (Settings shows where it is). Changing a character's appearance (for example after a race change) has been asked for and is on my list.

Eternity Keeper was created by Kim Mantas in 2015–16, and later updated by ktully and u/ayberk2766; this version builds on their work. Most of the new code was written with AI assistants, with me directing, designing and testing it. Unofficial fan project, not affiliated with Obsidian Entertainment or Paradox Interactive.

Transfer save from ps4 to PC

Is this possible nowadays? Basically on playstation i played until i got to about act3 and then stopped for reasons i dont even remember anymore. Since then the turn based mode has come out and as far as i can tell, this is not available on console. I have a steam deck and would like to play it on my deck but i really dont want to go through the entire game again as thats a 40+ hour endeavour for me 😅 with modern jailbreaking tools is it possible to decrypt a save file from playstation?

Don’t need no other games, decided to do my fourth playthrough this year. And here’s my Disappointer getting rid of all those negatives, just arrived in Guilded Vale. It’s gonna carry me far, love how the developers put all the little things to make it OP early on if you just know where to look.

PoE2: Deadfire Trickster Rogue vs Beguiler Cipher?

Post image
41 Upvotes

I'm doing a bit of a fan "lore" heavy build and wanted to know anyones input on which is the more fun and interesting class between the two. Im starting pillars 2 but throughout all of pillars of eternity 1 I ran a wizard who mostly was melee based with magic shields and summoned weapons. I had a ton of fun with that but i also liked the playstyle of grieving mother so I was curious about the Cipher class.

Lorewise, I want my Watcher to lose most of his magical archmage level power in the beginning dying to Eothas so he has to adapt by using magic differently, to a lesser degree. So he turns to Illusion and deception.

Between these two classes does anyone have an opinion on which they prefer? Or any other class or build that might match that style?

PoE2: Deadfire Best ways to stack accuracy and defense buffs / debuffs in Deadfire?

I'm trying to plan out the spells / abilities in my party so that I can handle the toughest encounters on PotD. I think I more or less understand the stacking rules but I'm not 100% on everything. Right side of the skill tree and item effects always stack (I think?) so that part is easy enough, but for active effects I'm not entirely clear on what counts as the same type of buff/debuff.

Stacking accuracy boosts (actives): There's only +accuracy and +perception, right? I don't think perception inspirations stack with abilities that directly boost perception. I guess miss>graze, graze>hit, and hit>crit conversions kind of fill the same role.

Stacking defenses (actives): Bonuses to one specific defense, bonuses to all defenses, and bonuses via increasing attributes all stack. Are there any other active ways to increase deflection, will, reflex, or fortitude?

Armor rating: I don't think any +armor effects stack? Global +armor, +armor vs a specific damage type, and robust inspiration will just use the highest value, right? Any other source of active bonus armor that would stack?

And then debuffs I think use the same rules as buff stacking. So enemy accuracy can be directly debuffed via -accuracy, -perception, and crit>hit, hit>graze, and graze>miss conversion. Defense debuffs can stack a debuff to a specific defense with a debuff to all defenses (does that exist?) and with stat reductions.

Just want to make sure I'm not totally forgetting about a category I can lean on for these buffs/debuffs since stacking to overcome enemy defenses seems like a big part of handling PotD bosses. Thanks!
