Every now and then a bunch of crows come by and rip apart one of the crested pigeons. Not quickly of course.
The pigeons have a bit of cover in some pretty thick greenery but that doesn't stop the crows following them through it.
I don't want to do anything that'll scare away the pigeons or the others, like blackbirds, superb fairywrens, noisy miners, house sparrows, magpies, magpie-larks, honeyeaters, cockatoos, galahs, etc.
I imagine it'd be hard to construct things that differentiate by size with crows and created pigeons being similar in size. But, I was wondering if there were very precise measurements that could reliably separate the two. And some means to encourage their use as a shelter.
I assume there's no attracting big friendly birds like cockatoos and galahs to relatively enclosed residential gardens, especially with favoured large, tall trees not far off and a large open park nearby. And I assume those two would deter the smaller guys I want to protect.
I expect putting up a fake dead crow would horrify and repel other birds just as much.
I'd rather not be cruel to the crows, despite how much I'm growing to despise them.
