Troubleshooting RTX 5070 Ti - global illumination and heavy ghosting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I'm trying to figure out what's causing these visual issues with my RTX 5070 Ti.

I'm experiencing graphical issues across multiple games, including Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, and WARDOGS, and many more. It's not limited to one particular game or engine.

As shown in the attached video, the lighting can look noticeably different when toggling global illumination, and some objects seem to have incorrect or inconsistent lighting.

I also experience noticeable ghosting behind moving objects, and water reflections have particularly bad ghosting, with trails appearing on almost everything reflected in the water.

What I've tried so far:

  • Currently using the latest NVIDIA driver available.
  • Tested several older drivers that are generally considered stable. The issues seem slightly better with some driver versions, but they never completely disappear.
  • Used DDU to remove the previous GPU drivers, then installed the drivers using NVCleanstall.
  • The problem still persists across multiple games and driver versions.

My PC specifications:

  • GPU: Zotac RTX 5070 Ti AMP Extreme INFINITY 16GB
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WIFI
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 6400MHz CL40
  • OS: Windows 11 24H2
  • Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G8, 4K 240Hz
  • PSU: 850W

I'm not sure whether this is a driver issue, a rendering problem, something related to DLSS/TAA or frame generation, a monitor issue, or potentially a hardware problem.

Has anyone experienced similar lighting artifacts and ghosting with an RTX 5070 Ti or another RTX 50-series GPU? What would you recommend testing next to narrow down the cause?

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Troubleshooting 12700F stuck at 65 W — 9070 XT usage halves, 0.1% lows ~5 FPS in Minecraft and other games (Windows and CachyOS)

Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting severe stuttering in Minecraft Java. The game feels like a slideshow during chunk loading and while moving, even when the median FPS is still around 250. It also happens in other games. GTA V is the exception so far. Same behavior on Windows 11 and on CachyOS, so this is not a Windows-only issue.

I took two CapFrameX captures. The first is 1080p. About 20 minutes later I switched to 1440p and captured again. The 1440p run looks much better on paper. I do not believe the resolution actually made the game faster, and the obvious GPU and thermal explanations do not fit. I want a check on the reading below.

Specs

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12700F (8P+4E). Stock limits are 65 W PL1 / 180 W PL2. I have never changed them. E-cores are still enabled.
  • GPU: Gigabyte RX 9070 XT 16 GB, Adrenalin 26.8.1. ULPS already disabled.
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3200, 2 sticks. Tested with XMP on and off. No change.
  • OS: Windows 11 build 26200. Same stutter on CachyOS.
  • Minecraft: Java, Fabulously Optimized, plus Voxy. Render distance 2, vsync off. I normally cap at 180, but these captures were not capped (medians are 249 and 284).
  • Java version does not matter. I have tried several. Same hitches.
  • What I was doing: flying, placing and breaking blocks, opening the creative inventory, killing mobs.

Control run, so this is not a dying GPU

Unigine Superposition 1.1, 4K Optimized, DirectX: score 21078, min 130 / avg 157.2 / max 189. Overlay 1% lows stayed about 124–140 against that 157 average, GPU clock about 3.0–3.4 GHz. When the card is fed, pacing is normal for a 9070 XT.

1080p, first capture

  • Average FPS: 156.5 | Median FPS: 248.6
  • 1% low: 11.0 | 0.1% low: 5.7 (~175 ms)
  • Adaptive STDEV: 95.60
  • CPU max thread: 74% @ 4220 MHz, package 65 W, ~49°C
  • GPU: 47% @ 2608 MHz, 113 W, ~34°C

1440p, about 20 minutes later

  • Average FPS: 244.5 | Median FPS: 283.6
  • 1% low: 28.5 | 0.1% low: 4.5 (~222 ms)
  • Adaptive STDEV: 38.81
  • CPU max thread: 64% @ 4505 MHz, package 63 W, ~52°C
  • GPU: 79% @ 3003 MHz, 248 W, ~43°C

What changed, and what did not

From 1080p to 1440p the median went 249 → 284 and the average went 157 → 245. Adaptive STDEV fell 96 → 39, and the 1% low rose 11 → 28.5. The GPU went from idle (47%, 113 W, 34°C, 2608 MHz) to actually working (79%, 248 W, 43°C, 3003 MHz).

The median only rose about 14%. The GPU clock rose about 15% (2608 → 3003). Those match. At 1080p the card was at 47% and never held full clocks. At 1440p the load was steady enough for it to sit near 3 GHz, so the normal frames got a bit faster.

The average did not jump because 1440p is cheaper. At 1080p the median was already 249. The average was 157 only because hitches dragged it down. At 1440p those hitches got rarer, so the average was allowed to sit near the median.

The 0.1% low did not follow. 5.7 FPS at 1080p (~175 ms), 4.5 FPS at 1440p (~222 ms). The freezes got less frequent. The worst one did not get shorter. Resolution is not what those freezes are.

GPU power did not rise because a throttle let go. 113 W at 47% and 248 W at 79% are the same performance per watt. A 9070 XT that is power-limited sits near 300 W at full load. At 1080p it was waiting on the CPU. At 1440p the CPU fed it more often, so power, clock, and temperature rose together. Superposition already showed the card is fine when something feeds it.

CPU temperature only went 49°C → 52°C. This is not thermal throttling.

Package power stayed 65 W → 63 W. The busiest thread dropped 74% → 64%, and the clock rose 4220 → 4505 MHz. 65 W is the 12700F's PL1. Power cannot go above that. In the 1080p run more threads were busy, so that 65 W was spread thinner and the P-core clock sagged. In the 1440p run fewer threads were busy, same budget, higher clocks. I also changed resolution and waited 20 minutes, so those two are mixed together. This was not a clean A/B.

What I think it is

The 1080p run is the CPU thread stalled (chunk generation, Voxy LOD, block updates, inventory), so the GPU sits at half load and frametime variance is huge. The 1440p run is that calming down: average and median recover, the GPU gets frames, STDEV drops. The ~200 ms freezes are still there.

Both runs pin the 12700F at its 65 W base limit, with E-cores still on and sharing that budget. The clock only moved because the thread load moved. Temps near 50°C mean the cooler is not the limit.

It is not only Minecraft. Other games hitch the same way, on Windows and on CachyOS. GTA V does not. Voxy plus flying will make Minecraft worse than a clean game, but it does not explain the other titles or the other OS.

Not done yet

  • Set PL1 = PL2 ≈ 180 W and retest. The CPU is at 50°C, so the thermal room is there.
  • Disable E-cores for one run. At 65 W they steal power from the P-cores.
  • Two captures in one already-generated spot, same view: 60 seconds at 1080p, then 60 seconds at 1440p. No flying, no inventory.
  • HWiNFO limit reasons during both (I expect PL1 / package RAPL = Yes).
  • CapFrameX CPU Busy vs GPU Busy, not just FPS.
  • One capture with Voxy off, same path, to separate the mod from the CPU limit.
  • Motherboard : Asus H610M-V2, Bios Version : 3403, i did NOT try to hard-reset, remove ram, or remove cmos battery , i did not check if there are any bent pins or debris because i very recently got my pc cleaned and assembled again by a friend of my dad, he showed me it's all good.

Please help. I can't play like this.

Thanks.

I just got a pc its an rx580 8gb i7 4790s i looked up some benchmarks and it showed me that i can run marvel on 60 to 50 fps so i downloaded it while i did hit 60 fps the game characters and inenvironments quality gets so bad whenever i move or other players move i have this problem with other games like black myth wukong cyberpunk 2077 but i didnt think it would happen in this game also.

is it just the specs that are bad or is there anyone else with the same specs that run these type of games fine

(if you could watch this video on pc bc you wont see much on a mobile)

Solved Dual monitor with a Radeon, gaming issues resolution

Hey guys,

I have a Radeon 7900XT and I was having this issue every so often with my games being choppy. Like screen tearing.

My side monitor is an older 60hz monitor. My main is a 144.

One thing that helped me was completely turning off my 2nd monitor while gaming.

But, I just found that AMD Adrenaline had turned AMD freesync to ON, on my secondary monitor. I just changed that to OFF and it feels MUCH smoother.

I can now play without turning my second monitor off.

Maybe this is common knowledge but just in case this helps anybody else!

Hardware What are my options to improving my Gaming PC?

I own a PHANTEKS X2S BLACK CyberPower Gaming PC and was wondering what are my options for improving the graphics when playing certain games. I fully understand that currently, VRAM and RAM devices are scarce and really expensive, and are not likely to go down in price any time soon. I’d just like to hear what my options are for installing additional RAM of medium quality or improving overall quality/divert more VRAM to games. I don’t need top of the line stuff, I just want a decent device I can purchase at some point in the future that would allow me to play games like Space Marine 2 or Gears of War E-Day on medium graphics. I’ve attached the current specs of the computer below to help narrow down my options.

CPU
AMD Ryzen™ 9 Processor 9900X 12-core/24-thread 4.4GHz \[Turbo 5.6GHz\] 76MB Cache AM5

CPU / Processor Cooling Fan
360mm Liquid CPU Cooling

Motherboard
B850 WIFI + BT Motherboard

RAM / System Memory
32GB DDR5 RAM

Video Card
GeForce RTX™ 5070 12GB GDDR7 Video Card (DLSS 4.0) \[AI-Powered Graphics\] l

Power Supply
1,000 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

Primary Hard Drive
2TB PCIe NVMe GEN4 M.2 SSD

Based on the current specs, what are my options to installing additional RAM, if that is even possible on a Gaming PC like this one.

Troubleshooting Persistent GPU Black Screen & 100% Fan Ramp (TDR Crash) Across Random Low-Load & Idle States — Looking for Sanity Check / Input

Hey everyone,

I’m losing my mind trying to troubleshoot an intermittent black screen and 100% max fan ramp issue on my system. Before I pull the trigger on replacing my power supply, I wanted to lay out every detail, test, and workaround I’ve tried to see if anyone has encountered this exact behavior or has additional insights.

System Specifications

  • GPU: MSI RTX 5070 Gaming Trio (Note: This is actually my second MSI Gaming Trio card—both have exhibited audible coil whine under load). Also in case you are wondering, I returned the previous one because it was black, and a white one appeared on sale within my 14 day return window and got that to match my white build.
  • PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GT Snow ATX 3.1 850W
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
  • Motherboard: MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi6E
  • RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5 EXPO (6000 MT/s) CL36

The Issue

The GPU will randomly lose display signal, drop video output completely, and instantly ramp the fans to 100% speed (NVIDIA's firmware safety state when communication with the driver drops).

  • Win + Ctrl + Shift + B does not recover the display. The machine stays responsive in the background or hangs, forcing a hard manual reset/power cycle.
  • Event Viewer Logs: Windows Event Viewer logs standard TDR driver timeout errors (nvlddmkm Event ID 0/14 / Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered) right as the black screen occurs.
  • It Cannot Be Forced: Synthetic benchmarks (3DMark, Time Spy, Superposition) and VRAM stress tests (OCCT) do not induce the crash. It happens completely at random—making it impossible to force on demand.

Load Behavior & Thermals

  • Heavy Stress (100% Stable): The card runs rock-solid under heavy gaming (Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing/mods, Call of Duty MW4 for 3+ hours).
  • Low Load / Idle (Unstable): The crash happens strictly during low-power states, desktop idle, or light media playback—such as browsing YouTube in Chrome, watching a movie in PotPlayer, or stepping down after quitting a game.
  • Thermals are completely fine: Under sustained 100% load, the GPU hovers at 68–70°C, CPU sits at 65–68°C, and motherboard VRM/chipset temps are cool.

Everything I Have Tried & Tested

  1. Physical Hardware:
    • Reseated the GPU in the PCIe x16 slot multiple times.
    • Disconnected and firmly reseated the 16-pin (12V-2x6) power cable at both the GPU and PSU ends repeatedly (making sure it clicks flush with zero gap/tight bends).
  2. Software & Drivers:
    • Clean driver reinstalls using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode.
    • Disabled MPO (Multi-Plane Overlay) via Registry.
    • Disabled Windows Fast Startup.
    • Set PCIe Link State Power Management to Off in Windows Power Options.
    • Set NVIDIA Power Management mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
    • Extended Windows TDR detection delay (TdrDelay / TdrDdiDelay) in Registry.
  3. GPU Tuning:
    • Tested completely stock GPU settings, undervolting, and overclocking—none stop the low-load driver resets.
  4. CPU & RAM Stability (Verified 100% Stable):
    • RAM: EXPO Profile 1 (6000 MT/s) fully tested with MemTest86 and OCCT Memory/VRAM tests with zero errors.
    • CPU BIOS Settings: PBO Advanced with +200MHz boost clock override, Negative 25 Curve Optimizer on Motherboard limits, and CPU SOC Voltage locked manually at 1.23V. No weird or exotic BIOS tweaks applied.

The Suspect

Given that the GPU handles heavy, continuous 300W+ gaming loads without a single hiccup, but drops signal during dynamic low-power P-state transitions (stepping between idle, 2D hardware video decoding, and desktop clocks), I strongly suspect the Thermaltake Toughpower GT 850W has poor 12V transient response/voltage regulation. When the GPU rapidly switches power states, the 12V rail sags microsecond-level, tripping the card's internal sense logic and sending it into a safety lockout.

I am planning to upgrade to a high-tier Seasonic FOCUS GX-850 V4 ATX 3.1 unit soon. Has anyone experienced these exact idle/low-load TDR crashes caused by PSU transient drops, or is there any other stone left unturned?
