I showed them the flag of Germany, I don't know how to interpret their reaction. I think Shurik might like that country.

African Grey Leaning Forward

I have a 28-year-old African Grey, and I’ve noticed some changes in his behavior recently that have me a little concerned.

About a week ago, we noticed that he was limping and seemed to be favoring one of his right leg. This lasted for about two days before he appeared to return to normal. He’s now walking around normally, perching, eating, talking, singing, and playing with his toys like usual.

However, over the past few days, I’ve noticed that he has started leaning forward quite a bit. Sometimes, he leans so far forward that he appears to be resting his stomach/chest against the surface he’s standing on. He doesn’t do this constantly, but I’ve noticed it happening several times.

Other than this, he seems to be acting like his normal self. He’s still very vocal, has a good appetite, and is moving around and playing with his toys.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with their African Grey, especially an older bird? I’m wondering if this could be related to his earlier limping or possibly something age-related.

I’d really appreciate hearing about anyone else’s experiences!

Monkey and Millet update

Sorry for the late update I spent the first week getting them settled in and then have spent the last week with Covid but I’m finally starting to feel a little bit better!

Monkey and Millet have settled in quite well. They are already learning to come when call and to poop in a certain spot when out of their cage. I’ve found out Millet loves baths but Monkey isn’t a fan, Monkey loves to hang upside own and play with my glasses. Millet took a little bit longer but is getting better with being so bitey.

I have also made them an Instagram and TikTok since a handful of people asked 🥰 both called monkeyandmillet tho ill probably post on instagram a bit more

I am so happy with these 2 and so thankful for everyone who has helped me out with them and supported me

I local breeder has them, but here in Mexico it is imposible to search for unpopular parrots because everyone makes up names.

This one is called "fire back" google has no idea of what bird is that, to find my diamond dove DEAR LORD it took ages.

Anyone know what it is? I want to buy it, and for that I need to know what it is.

Pellets and the good oil

Post image

I bought Harrison’s adult lifetime super fine pellets for my cockatiel, she’s 3. I used to mix the good oil into her pellets, should I continue doing that as a good practice?

Feeding amounts

Post image

I have a general understanding of the 70% pellets 25% fruit and veg and 5% seeds and treats and she has no issues that require me changing that. I just don’t understand exactly how much of each I need to give? I’m a type of person that needs exact numbers and my brain can’t figure it out. Some places say 10% of their body weight per day but that means 10g of food a day and that seems terribly low? Others say 30g a day and then that’s 30% of his body weight which is a big jump

(Another picture like my previous post from her being out of reach and refusing to come down for half an hour. Annoying but great because she originally had cut feathers and now she flys so well 😭)

Advice on b&g macaw

Post image
57 Upvotes

So this is kind of a long post, and I apologize in advance.

I posted i was looking for a new bird to add to our flock on the nextdoor app...didnt really think anybody would respond- but a woman did, she has a few she is looking to rehome- including a blue and gold macaw, she literally lives a street over, and wants me to come hang out and get to know them(the parrots) and what not.

The macaw is in love with her husband and completely switched up on her- being very protective and she said aggressive. It just happened over the last year. His name is Dodo, and he lunges at her anytime she is near his cage, wont accept anything out of her hand anymore, chases her around, etc. When she walks into the room he starts aggresively chewing his leg as well...she said he used to love her so much and then she started working more and now it is the complete opposite...HOWEVER she said that he is apparently very friendly with anybody else and accepts treats from others etc...she said it is ONLY her.

She also said none of them except maybe their caique are very 'social' anymore as they dont get to get out much due to life circumstances changing, working more, etc.

So, I am wondering- what can I do to get to know this macaw in particular? Her husband will be gone while I am there visiting and what not- so that is good. But i'm worried that since we will be in the same space/their house...i just don't know what to do/how to bond there lol. Also, I did already ask her if shed be comfortable to let me in with him without her, since she makes him so angry- and she absolutely agreed.

Looking for any information/info/advice on this situation...any extra info on macaws in general that maybe I should know about. Maybe your macaws favorite toys/things/treats...also, she clips his wings. I do not clip any of my parrots wings. Would that be something i should continue? Or can i just not? He is 10.

I am going over there starting tomorrow- and I just want it to hopefully go well😅

Pic just for attention. And yes, I do already own parrots! I am just new to a macaw potentially being in my home...but i do have some experience with them from others. Thanks!!

hi I have a IRN (named fibi) and she (not sure yet tho lol) is over 1.5 years old. I have a green cheek conure and hes almost 3 so i know a lot about parrots so far but She confuses me so much lately. She really likes when I pet her but I have to pet her with a broccoli at first then i can pet her with my fingers?? i guess bro😭 She bites me whenever i sit on my bed without pants or socks and she doesnt let me touch her unless she is fluffed up and stares at me.

Just for context my parents are fucking dumb and watched a lot of IRN videos and thought they would be great pets. I didnt research them because I thought it would be their responsibility but Im homeschooled so i spend most of my time at home and She flew into my room one day and didnt want to leave since april 2026. She became my responsibility after all and Now i have her and my other bird in my room. And most important part, my parents let her our of her cage when she wasnt tamed. Now she sleeps on top of my ceiling light. And i cant put her in her cage because i cant touch her like that yet. Im not mad since i love her so much right now but i have a hard time disciplining her. I cant put her in cage i cant ignore her because she jumps on me i literally have no idea what to do shes a brat! my GCC was so much better to tame and to take care of.

She definitely has an attitude and attachment issues? she yells at the top of her little lungs whenever i leave the room tp make food or go piss or to wash myself. I cant ignore it because it either gets louder or my parents say i need to "take care" of her. Dont even start on how much i hate them for taking her in without proper research.

I dont wanna pay for a behaviourist im kinda short on money lately and i already spend shit ton on them both. I dont know how to punish her for biting. Ignoring doesnt help at all she just stares at me like its funny im bleeding and jumps on me to bite again💔

I need tips for kinda punishing her of course i wouldnt hit her or even smack her its not her fault shes a bitch lwk or any information about IRN i might not know would be appreciated 🫡😐
or tips how to make her more trusting towards me because her nails are getting long and i need to take her to the vet soon
also im 16 if it would matter to someone

Indian Ringneck Advice

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey, all. I'm just posting to see if anyone could give me some feedback/assistance on bonding with my recently purchased sweet girl, Avery.

I bought her from a pet shop yesterday, after having seen her there for around a month, so it's quite understandable that she is on the skittish side. The pet shop said that she is around three years old, but, quite honestly, she seems to be much younger than that to both myself and my friend (who has a ringneck of her own).

She is very lively, and loves to climb up the sides and roof of her temporary home, along with attempting to "play" on her makeshift swing.

She hasn't made much noise since I picked her up yesterday, which does make sense as she is still quite unsure about myself and my family. But she sure makes up for her lack of voice by climbing around and staring into your soul. 😂

I know that it will take a lot of patience to bond with her, but I am curious to know whether anyone here has any tips or tricks that may assist in gaining her trust. She is my first ringneck I have owned (I have owned multiple budgies and smaller parrots before), and I understand that ringnecks are a bit different to others in the parrot family, so I am a little on the unsure side.

Any advice — even outside what I have asked about — is greatly welcomed.

Vaseline help

i had vaseline on my lips and my cockatiel put his head against me and got some in his head feathers, I toweled him and tried to clean it with a cloth and water but it’s still in there, he gets really stressed when I put him in a towel or anything like that
his nostrils are now also starting to look green and inflamed? is there anything I can use to get it out, he keeps scratching his head and wiping it with his wing. or should I leave him tonight and take him to the vet tomorrow (it’s almost midnight)
pics attached of his head and nostrils

Need advice : fostering a blind amazon parrot

Post image
38 Upvotes

(english isn't my first langage, please excuse my mistakes)

I currently foster 2 amazon parrots one of them being nearly blind.

He just had last week one eye removed due to a puncture wound, and has limited vision due to vitamin deficiency scars in the other eye, to the point he can only see shadows and luminosity changes in his peripheral vision but can't identify any object, distance or texture without touching. He also misses a few claws but usually he moves pretty well in his cage.

He's really scared of humans, hands and touch, probably never was properly cared for, and probably never desensitised to anything. He was uterly traumatised when he was abandoned at the shelter, we don't know his past or age. He's with me for a month now, but was in pain before surgery so we couldn't really work on anything except learning how to navigate the cage (the vet wanted to try everything before getting rid of the bad eye, due to the risks of the surgery but we finally had to remove it).

Right now he is recovering, and we managed to build a litlle bit of trust : he accepts to take a treat from a metallic bowl when I touch his beak with it (thank god it allows me to give him medecine without catching him).

He is now used to his cage but don't want to interact at the door or behind bars so I can't really make him go out/work with the contact of the skin behind metal bars or outside the cage.

He went out of the cage in the room 3 times, (by himself, I open the door and wait, I never take him out except when we had to go to the vet) but can't figure out how he got there and how to come back despite having perchs near the door and a vocal cue to indicate if the door is open or close. During the healing process he has to stay in his cage so he can't come out for the next 2weeks.

Since the surgery he doesn't show any sign of agressivity or pain anymore (he used to bite the air around him when spooked by anything, touch or sound, but it was likely enhanced by the pain). Though I guess if I were to touch him he will bite hard according to my attempt to catch him to go to the vet, I'm thankfull for the gloves and could feel it even with the right protection.

How would you train him to accept touch/step up and to go in/out of his cage once he's healed ?

What would you do to build trust and to give him the best chance at a happy life ?

Also what treat would you use ? We need something low in fat but big enough for him to grab easily.

I already have a few idea but would really appreciate to talk with people that have walked this path before to avoid common mistakes.

Ps : it's my first time fostering/having birds, let alone a cranky blind amazon parrot, but I'm patient and dedicated, he is curious and I know it will be a long road ahead. I try to educate myself as much as possible and they can't legally be rehomed elsewhere for now, please be kind 😊

How to safely remove fleas?

I’ve recently discovered my flat has fleas and I own a lovebird. I’ve done some research and found a lot of stuff isn’t safe to use and can kill her no matter how carful I am so I’m struggling to find any alternatives that would work. Any suggestions?
