ASU vs owut

Today I've upgraded my router to the latest point release with ASU as usual. Also no problem as usual. Should I switch to owut? I'm not afraid of the command line, but I just want the process to work as smooth as possible, keep my settings and just get on with my life. Not sure if I'm missing something. Any advantages/disadvantages? Thanks.

I don't understand the question. There is no "vs". Some time in the run-up to 25.12, Attended Sysupgrade has been reimplemented as a Web front end for owut. So when you run Attended Sysupgrade, it calls owut to do the actual work.

The advantages of running owut on the command line, in my opinion, are:

  • Interactivity: owut can ask you a question if / when it needs to.

  • Functionality: owut has more functions than Attended Sysupgrade uses. But you still can use them on the command line. For example, you can switch from ext4 image to squashfs image, resize the root filesystem, add / remove packages, etc.

I wasn't aware asu is now using owut. Makes sense to use the command line then. Thank you.

just to add to what the other redditor said - I like using owut or the commandline for the -v (verbose) setting when checking and upgrading to a higher version. It gives you more info before and during an upgrade.
