Thought i would get myself a cat, turns out I got the dog a cat instead 😂
I was not expecting these two to get along anywhere near as much as they do, it is mind blowing. For a dog with a high prey drive and the size of a small donkey I can't believe how soft they are together!

any advice?
So for about the past year and a half, we have been having a cat visit us almost daily. He spends at least 12-16 hours on the property nearly every time he comes over. We are not 100% sure if he belongs to somebody. When he first showed up he had a huge gash on his side that healed within a month.
Now, it’s starting to get colder out. My mom got him a heated cat house, but he doesn’t really understand it even when there’s food in it. I’ve tried to show him to the shed we have in our yard that has a cat door on it but I’m not sure if he likes/understands that either.
I say all of this because he is starting to go to my door day and night and he just sits there for hours. He tries to come inside every time I open my door. I have a girl cat and she is very territorial.
Not knowing if he has a home to go to when it gets even colder is starting to stress me out more and more. Seeing him sit right in front of my door for hours is heart breaking. I think we have really really bonded over the past year and a half. He is very skittish to most people he’s met except for me.
I know this isn’t an advice sub but I figured you guys might have some ideas. Is there anything more I can do for him? I cannot let him in my house. I am willing to spend about $100 on him if there are any recommendations. Thank you!

After just couple days more, and a weird introduction to my feet, Mr. Kittles loves the pets.

The other night after I posted the churu pets video, I went out late to fill the food bowls for the late night stragglers kitties. Not wearing my shoes this time, the kitten that had been scared of my feet every time I stepped toward him, seemed interested in my socked feet.
So after a couple of awkward extensions of my leg to gently show him my foot he decided to check it out. Sniffing cautiously, I guess he realized they're just feet. The very last time I let him check before I went back in, he reached his paw out and booped my foot.
Since then, pets are A OK in his book and he comes running to me whenever I come out.🤷♂️

Work kitty
Met this wonderful baby today at the back of my work, had to stop them from going into one of the warehouses. Seemed very friendly but not open to pets.

Update on NMC
He’s NOT being cared for by the neighbor. How do I convince him to come in? I’ve let him in a few times, he came and ate and met the other cats and then he just sits at the door and whines/meows until I let him back out. Now what?

They really love each other. Neither of them is my cat, but they chose my bed to show it.

Street cat or House cat? A month after domestication, TabbyTom struggles with this dilemma.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A month ago, I looked up from my stove to see TabbyTom, the neighborhood feral, sitting on the windowsill just a couple feet away, with the most dejected look on his face. This cat had never allowed me within twenty feet of him, but that evening, he came right up within arm's reach for some food, even licking some off of my fingers. A few days later I came home from a bike ride to find him on my porch, waiting for me- but this time he thrust his face into my hands, demanding pets.
We're buddies now- he more or less lives on my porch, and I feed him and give him some love. He's been TNR'ed, and I've done a little "experiment" in which I kept him inside for a few days.
He often waits by my door, expressing interest in coming inside, but not long after might want back out.
Anyhow, he's not the only one with this dilemma. I cannot keep him and have to decide if he should live as a barn cat with my coworker, or if he should be surrendered to the local shelter in a month. Probably 70/30 in favor of the shelter, at the moment.

Stray orange kitty in my local mall
This stray came up to me and started voicing his demands of food and attention very clearly. Then he meowed like crazy for a second plate (which was unfortunately stolen off him by another stray calico cat later). Little buddy was pretty open to pets and kept rubbing on my legs.

Kiyomizu-dera temple cat
Seemingly fond of head scritches. Excellent guardian of the temple.

The Airbnb listing did not mention complimentary cat.
Staying at an Airbnb. This fluffy visitor appeared on the deck, came over to investigate, and eventually decided the blanket on my lap was acceptable sleeping accommodations. Still not my cat.

Apparently, our new house came with a cat not mentioned in the seller’s disclosure.
This handsome black and silver gentleman has been living in our shrubs for the last 7-10 days. We’re new to the neighborhood and figured he must belong to someone because he is so sweet and loves to be pet. We’ll take him to our other (four!) cats’ vet to have him scanned for a chip. In the absence of a chip, I guess he makes number five. Oh, did I mention we already have four cats? 🤦♂️

Made a friend?
So we have a number of random cats in the neighborhood and recently had a surprise litter of 3 kittens born in our back yard! The mom (who was born like 6-7 months ago elsewhere in the neighborhood) is pretty skittish but seems to be doing a great job with the kittens, and my wife wanted to get her some water and kibble, so we did. Then, one day I thought I saw the mom hanging out in our backyard but then my 6 year old son astutely informed me that the mom was with the kittens in the front yard, so I was like wait, who is this other cat?
ALL of these cats are fully black so it was confusing lol. But the cat in our backyard seemed less scared and just kinda hung out. We started calling him daddy cat because we were guessing he might be the dad of the litter but we really have no idea.
Anyways I tossed some kibble to daddy cat one day and then he literally started stalking me while I do the dishes or hang out in the kitchen. He also started rubbing himself on my legs and licking me when I go outside. Sometimes my chihuahua wants to go pee at 3am and daddy cat emerges from the darkness to rub up against me and say hi.
I’ve never been a cat person and don’t know what he wants, except food I guess lol. Also, I’m allergic to cats so I have to be careful and wash my hands (and legs/pants?) a lot. He doesn’t have a collar but he seems like he has to have been somewhat socialized but I’m not sure what this cat wants or why he seems to like me. I just try to give him water and some snacks. What is the deal with this cat? lol
