Some idiot is out there lighting fireworks. It's 11:30 PM on Tuesday and only absolute idiots who don't have work tomorrow could do something like this. Woke up in the middle of the night and I'm struggling to build complete sentences. If you lit fireworks and are reading this, may they set your house on fire.

New poster Are there no jobs here?

I’m new to Newcastle, I’m here as a student at Newcastle Uni and I cannot find a job at all. I’ve applied to many places, and to little luck. If anyone could help me out that would be great! I’m 18 and have over a year’s worth of experience in hospitality + additional marketing work experience. Any retail / hospitality role would be great, though I’m open to others. (For reference if helpful, I’ve applied to all businesses that were hiring within Eldon Square and surrounding).

My son is a creative, studying fashion next year in college, he's looking for creative friends / creative spaces that are appropriate for 15/16 year olds.

He's a class lad, obsessed with sewing, and absolutely desperate to be among people who are more on a level that he is, feels a bit hidden in school, just came back from London where he spent time with a very arty family member, went to a warehouse fashion party during the day and is straight up sick of not having like minded people in Newcastle.

He's thinking young fashion spaces, young adult queer spaces, young artist spaces and anything else.

I've explained that in our day we just had the green and found our people, it's a shame for the bairns!

Any suggestions would be amazing!

Cycling in Newcastle city centre! The council have spent so much money building cycle lanes but they dont really link together very well at all.

I commute from Heaton to low fell most days, does anyone find the internal cycle ways in the city center so clunky. yet they have obviously spent so much money on creating cycle lanes.

Free council parking near Freeman Hospital?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently started a job at the Freeman Hospital and I’m really struggling with the commute. I live quite far away and the public transport links are horrible, so driving is my only real option.

Does anyone know if there is any free council parking nearby? I don’t mind walking a bit if necessary.

I am planning to apply for a staff parking permit, but I have no idea when it will actually be accepted. Any tips or advice on where to park in the meantime would be hugely appreciated!

Edit: Thank you so much for all your answers! Was not expecting that many. Very much appreciated!

New poster How is living in Spital Tounges area?

Hi, me and my friends are looking to rent a house for our second year of uni and one of the areas we were looking at is Spital Tounges.

Is it generally considered a safe area (esp at night), and does it tend to be overly noisy?
We're very new around here and would appreciate any information you can give us! :)

Tickets for sale Carer tickets for meet and greet at City Hall - any experiences?

Looking at taking my Teenage Lanky Thing (son) to a gig next year.

He has ADHD and is autistic, plus some other issues, and realistically has moderate support needs. His is the level of autism that makes him seem like an average person at first glance, just a bit weird.

He'll cope fine with the actual concert in and of itself, but cannot go alone, so I'm going with him.

I can apparently get an "average" carer ticket no problem, but there's the option of a meet n greet, and Teenage Lanky Thing (TLT) really wants to do that.

There's no mention on the website of whether carer tickets cover the MNG, and that's honestly the part TLT will need the most help with.

I don't really want to risk getting a carer ticket, then finding out it doesn't cover the MNG, and then finding those tickets are sold out.

At the same time, it's close to £200 for a single MNG ticket, and while I do love the band, we'd just be getting the regular £40 tickets if it were up to me.

TLT cannot do the MNG on his own.

I'm imaging carer tickets should cover a MNG, but there's always that uncertainty.

I can't just ring the City Hall, phonelines apparently aren't open at the minute, so any concrete help would be appreciated!

Very last minute but family member can't make it so have a spare ticket on the balcony. Should be able to transfer via email/text on Ticketmaster if interested. Don't want anything for the ticket. Can give a donation to a charity of your choice if you can, or just pass a deed on another day.

TICKET NOW TAKEN

Aloha, folks! My wife and I dropped off our oldest at uni in London and decided to take the train and go to up to Newcastle. I’m about retire from Germany and she’s suddenly a Brit so we were thinking of moving to the UK where we can start the second phase of jobs/living but neither of us have much experience with cities/towns/villages in the UK so whenever the opportunity presents itself (like having to bring a child to uni), we’re keen on checking out someplace new.

But I have to say, I pretty much fell in love with Newcastle by the time I left the train station and got to the statue of the Man With Potential Selves.

Checked into the hotel and immediately popped out to Guitar Guitar and a couple record shops before they closed. I talked to everyone I could and every one of them were so nice and welcoming.

The architecture was cool, I loved the weather (I like UK weather in general), the history was neat, and all the hills made walking an adventure but it was really the people that made it so great.

I would have loved to stay longer but the marathon was coming and the hotel prices went up too much so we left to go to Brighton to see it before we had to come back to Germany.

Anyway, I loved it. I can’t wait to return someday - the sooner the better.

Here are some pictures I took in case you’re interested.

Take care of yourselves.

Mul graffiti vandalism

Hi has anyone else seen that someone’s gone around Ouseburn and quayside and graffiti scribbled over all of the Mul art with super ugly scribbles. I was gutted when I saw it. Pic is to show what the Mul drawings look like I don’t have any of the vandalised ones 😔

Solo volleyball practice spaces

I want to practice my volleyball skills and I'm wondering what my best options are (free or paid) I already go to sessions once a week but it's not enough. The weather is getting shite so outdoor options might not be possible. Location would ideally be around Leam Lane in Gateshead. Does anyone have any recommendations? Wouldn't need to be a volleyball court. Just looking for an indoor space for me to practice serves.

I'd do it in the flat but not enough space.

Hi. Is this place nice? Is the whole thing open to the public to walk around? What do you think it would be like living just next to it in Wallsend or the other side Holystone?
