Mod Post New to Plymouth? Want to make friends? Come join the Plymouth Discord server!
This sub receives lots of posts where users are trying to make new friends. From students arriving from around the world, to movers who have accepted a job here, it can be hard to make friends in a brand new community. If you prefer an online-first approach to making friends, I encourage you to consider joining the official Plymouth Discord server: https://discord.gg/X7gBvKBXuV
Our Discord server is a great place to make new friends, both online and IRL. It's also a good place to discuss what's happening around the city and get some advice from residents if you're moving here. Through meetups on this server we've played Jackbox together, gone on bike rides, won pub quizzes, and danced during nights out. More importantly, we've made good friends that we otherwise wouldn't have without this Discord server.

Parking near Cineworld
I'm looking at coming down to Plymouth from Exeter to watch a film at the Cineworld IMAX next week. I don't know Plymouth well at all, is there somewhere nearby - preferably free - to park after around 7pm or so? Any advice appreciated!

Empty Chair!
I've just arrived at Union Rooms and it's absolutely rammed! I'm upstairs on the corner of the bar nearest the stairs in a black Helly Hanson coat. I will stay here until 7:30 as promised. I only got the go ahead email from Empty Chair yesterday morning hense the late post yesterday. I foolishly assumed it would be dead on a Monday. I WAS WRONG.

Question for the health and safety minded: Is there any point to these orange barriers? Do they actually increase safety? Shouldn’t the hazard have been identified at the design stage?
I can’t believe that less than four months after the grand opening these barriers are up in Plymouth

Ever thought about learning Cornish?
The Cornish language is open for anyone to learn, you don’t have to be Cornish!
If you’re curious and want to ask some questions, or want to learn, there is a casual group that meets at Caffeine Club which is near the University, every Friday between 5:30 and 7:30.
Everyone is welcome, its a social group that isn’t political, or exclusive, we don’t care where you are from, we don’t really give a crap about what way you like your scones and all that nonsense, we don’t care whether you like folk music or not, it isn’t about being Celtic, its about speaking a beautiful language and being part of a community, you are simply welcome to learn or just learn more about it.
Feel free to drop any questions here.

Estover Asda
How’s the Asda at estover handling this £30 voucher? Is it as bad as everywhere else? 😭😂. I saw some other stores have 1000 pickers to do, I’m assuming a lot are going to get cancelled. Sending love to Asda staff 🩷

Anyone in Plymouth fancy meeting some new people? 👋
Hi everyone!
I’m Greg, and I’m starting a weekly social get-together called The Empty Chair at The Union Rooms in Plymouth.
The idea is pretty simple: create a relaxed, friendly space where people can meet others, have a chat and enjoy a bit of company.
Sometimes it can be difficult to meet new people as an adult. Maybe your social circle has changed, you're new to the area, or you just fancy getting out of the house and having a conversation with some new faces.
That's what this is all about. No organised activities, no pressure to be super outgoing, and no need to bring a friend along. Just turn up, grab a seat and see where the conversation goes!
The details: 📍 The Union Rooms, Plymouth — upstairs 📅 Every Monday 🕡 From 6:30pm
I'll be hosting, so if you're looking for me, I'll be the bloke wearing orange! 🧡
Whether you fancy popping in for ten minutes or staying for a longer chat, you're welcome.
If you've been looking for ways to meet people in Plymouth, or just fancy doing something a little different on a Monday evening, feel free to come along.
And if you have any questions, drop them in the comments.
Hope to see some of you there! 😊

Plymouth Local tattoo artist
Hi everyone,
My name is Wai!
Thought I’d share a few pieces I’ve been working on recently!
I’m a tattoo artist based at Modern Ink in Plymouth, and I absolutely love what I do.
I especially enjoy creating custom designs, whether it’s Japanese-inspired artwork, Greek mythology, anime, portraits or something completely different.
One of my favourite parts of tattooing is sitting down with someone, hearing their ideas and turning them into something personal to them.
I always try to focus on how a tattoo fits the body, the little details and, most importantly, how it’ll look years down the line.
I’ve been lucky enough to work on some really interesting projects lately, and I’m hoping to do even more creative pieces in the future.
Just thought I’d share some of my work with the local community!
If anyone’s been thinking about getting a tattoo or has an idea they’d like to bring to life, feel free to drop me a message. Always happy to have a chat!
You can find more of my work on Instagram: @wai_tattoo
