Take with a grain of salt but seems legit to me

After a 5-2 loss to the Flames, head coach Jim Hiller discussed the team’s sloppy turnovers, Easton Cowan’s response after a rough first period, and the mounting injury situations after Kirill Marchenko’s exit from the game.

Every game thread lately is people saying Bob is washed so I went and looked at more than just his save % and GAA, because honestly those stats mostly tell you how bad the team is infront of him tbh

And the team in front of him has been bad lol. He’s facing the 4th most high danger shots in the league and the 5th most shots at 5v5. We’re giving up the 8th most shot attempts at 5v5 and we’re tied for 2nd most 5v5 goals against. Our top 5 D averages like 33 years old and although talented, this is basically the same leaky team that led the league in shots against last year.

On the other hand, Bob is at +2.7 goals saved above expected. That stat already accounts for how dangerous the shots are, so being positive means he’s actually stopping more than an average goalie would behind this mess. Not to mention being 7th in the league in it after his first 4 starts too.

I’m not saying he’s been amazing. He’s 22nd out of 46 goalies in GSAx per 60 so he’s pretty much average right now. Also, giving up 3+ in 8 of 9 games isn’t fun to watch, last year in Florida wasn’t great, and yeah he’s 38.

But 9 games is nothing and calling him bad when the D is hanging him out to dry every night feels targeted .

Curious what everyone else thinks

Hello Leafs Nation,

I am a finance professional who works literally right next to Scotiabank Arena, and decided to purchase 2 Tuesday Leafs tickets, a) to make Tuesdays after work more fun/as a way to let off steam after work by watching a live event; b) because one of the players (Kirill) is named after the same Saint as me.

However, I will admit that I am not exactly a huge hockey fan. I’ll be sure to review the rulebook pre-game, and have seen some games on TV, but I’m not ultra familiar with the rest of the players.

Given this, how can I maximize/optimize my viewing experience as a casual fan? What can I do in Scotiabank to maximize my enjoyment (besides gambling!), and also maybe learn to love hockey in the best way possible.

Best,

Kiril

The sub won't let me post the actual X thread, but search for the JerseyNerds X account and you can find it pretty easily. They have a bunch of other supposed leaks for other teams as well.

I think this looks clean! First time in the modern era they've featured a leaf at centre crest without the inner writing, I believe. The vintage white is sharp, way better choice than those old Reverse Retros with the gray/silver.

You are forgiven if you didn’t see the first-period result and overall outcome coming, given how this game in Calgary started from the Maple Leafs’ perspective.

Buckle in fella. Just please leave Cowan alone

Marchenko falls backwards awkwardly bending his leg under him, he immediately got off the ice then tested it again for 14 seconds before leaving the game. I will try to post the Gif.

“I love being a Leaf, love playing for Toronto, love the fanbase, love this team, so… just another opportunity here tonight to play the game I love” - Easton Cowan my guy

Really encouraging to see Domi skating after what was assumed to be a potentially career ending injury. Glad he's doing better.

Us night shift and construction folk need somewhere to complain and exclaim.

Please use this thread to post ANYTHING you want! Memes, photoshops, anything that would normally be removed for breaking the low-effort content rule, is totally, 100% welcome here!

This thread can also be used for Armchair GM ideas that may not require a standalone post. Is there a free agent you want to see on this team? Is there a player that's rumoured to be on the move that you think the Leafs should go after? Are there players on this team you want to trade away? Feel free to post about it here!

Normal moderation will occur, such as watching for personal insults, racism, and things of that nature.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread to chat about your random Leafs thoughts, or share things like a photoshop of a Habs logo on fire or a reaction gif to something going on in Leafs Nation right now!

The use of this thread is not necessary on "Anything Goes Sundays," however you may still feel free to utilize it if you wish!

Downvotes are discouraged for the most part, everyone's opinion is fair game in this thread. If you see rule breaking content, report it!

I’ve never liked Rogers much, but making hockey fans pay an extra $25-30 each month to watch Monday night hockey is ridiculous. Guess I’m watching the ball game tonight instead.

Maple Leafs 2, Flames 5

FINAL

Catch-up · From puck drop

The Flames scored first and stayed in front the rest of the way.

10:05 into the first, M. Gridin fired a wrist shot on net from the circle, and the Flames took a 1-0 lead. 1:45 later, M. Backlund drove a quick shot home from the circle, and the Flames moved two clear at 2-0.

Early in the second period, M. Gridin ripped one past the goalie from the low circle on the power play, and the Flames pushed the lead to three, 3-0. 12:54 into the second, E. Cowan redirected the puck home from the doorstep, and the Maple Leafs cut the deficit to 3-1.

6:06 into the third, W. Nylander got a snapper away before the goalie could set from the doorstep, and that made it a one-goal game at 3-2. Late in the third period, J. Farabee put it into the empty net, and the Flames built a two-goal cushion, 4-2. The same side struck again 46 seconds later when M. Pospisil hit the empty net to put it away, and the Flames opened up a three-goal gap, 5-2.

16:48 into the first, Z. MacEwen and J. Middleton dropped the gloves. The Flames carried a 69-45 edge in shot attempts. The Maple Leafs faced five power plays and killed four of them. Cooley stopped 26 of 28.

Final: The Flames won 5-2.
