Hi I am studying computer engineering, I am in third grade and I need to switch my laptop(its not working any more) for something else.
I was thinking of macbooks since a lot of my classmates use it. I was thinking either ThinkPad T14 or macbook pro and to be honest macbook suit my needs better because there is almost no fan voice amazing battery life and Charger isnt bulky.Exactly what I want.
But here is the problem. I never used any apple devices before and I dont plan to get one especcially iphones maybe ipad but not until I graduate. I have a android phone(HONOR) android tablet(Samsung) and windows desktop gaming pc.
Everyone around me is anti apple and they all say that since I dont use any apple devices it will shatter my work place. Getting into apple ecosystem atleast right now is impossible for me.
İf not macbook I would go with ThinkPad. I KNOW its the exact opposite of macs and goes against everything I want from a laptop but since no Windows laptop would give me an experience like macbook might aswell go with thinkapd since they have a lot of feautures I love.
Also even if I get a macbook I would still get a ThinkPad in addition to my macbook or get a macbook if I had a ThinkPad İN THE FUTURE When I have chance
Also I am not buying laptop for gaming. I have desktop pc for that as I mentioned before.
İs macbook good for me or should I get a Windows.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
USA
$1200
No
14" or higher
Any
Want to buy girlfriend new laptop. She plays some games on steam but nothing too big. I would like for her to be able to play some AAA if she wanted but kind of unlikely. Otherwise she would mostly use it for excel, browsing websites and watching movies. Does not need to be a gaming laptop.
I'm not sure. Standard laptop but foldable screen or touchscreen wouldn't be an issue
She wants to play two player games on steam. If she likes a AAA game like Hogwarts Legacy then I would want that to run smoothly on basic settings. Does not need to be a gaming laptop though.
I'm not sure
performance
size
battery life
weight
Not really. Just want a laptop under $1200 thats a decent size and can handle a some gaming if desired. Mostly to watch movies, play games and use excel. Would prefer to buy from Best Buy.
Thank you to anyone who gives advice!

I was looking at buying a laptop and I genuinely don't know if this is a good deal with how everything is nowadays. It's got really everything I would want except the ultra 9 275hx plus and a fingerprint or facial recognition, but honestly I can do without the fingerprint. It seems like a decent deal but if someone who knows more could actually tell me I would appreciate it. Also, should I just wait for Christmas which is right around the corner for a price drop or until maybe the next gen comes out? I really need it for school and so I can take it to work, but want the power to game as I do like to game and don't have a pc. Thanks!

Realistically how much can I sell for? I bought it back in March and only used it for Fortnite and Elden Ring but don't have the time to use it anymore.

So I today I noticed the battery was draining very fast in about an hour or so and made a battery report in cmd.
I rarely use the battery only when travelling or when i have to finish something quick before bed.
The rest of the time its always plugged in at 100%
And here you can see the battery life is at 56% only...
About my laptop its a Dell precision 7540 with a nividia quadro T1000 and a i7 9850H so it uses a lot of power.
When do you guys consider me changing it for a new one or should I leave it like this.

Hello everyone,
I am between MacBook air and pro.
Which one would you buy with a budget around 2k usd? Semi flexible. Does it matter if wait for deals over the next couple of months? Black
Friday etc
I don’t do anything that requires a lot of processing power. Mainly storing photos, editing, browsing the internet.
I don’t replace computers frequently so I wouldn’t want a laptop that will last a long time.
Edit.
Looks like folks are recommending to wait until Black Friday. I will keep an eye for potential deals.
The two options I was looking at currently were the air 15in m5 24gb ram 1TB at $1849 at Best Buy
And pro 14in 16gb ram 1TB at $1849 at Best Buy

Hey everyone! I’ve been going back and forth on this for a while, and I just can’t seem to make up my mind, so I figured I’d ask here in case someone has been in a similar situation. :D
My work schedule is a bit unusual: I work seven days straight, 12 hours a day, and then I have the entire following week off.
I already have a gaming PC at home, which I use for most of my gaming and everyday tasks. What I’m looking for now is a small, lightweight, portable laptop that I can take with me when I travel, go on vacation, or just need to work on the go.
My main uses would be:
I’ve mainly been considering a MacBook or a compact 13–14-inch Windows laptop, preferably with an Intel or AMD processor rather than ARM.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have switched between the two platforms. For example, has anyone gone from a MacBook to a 2-in-1 Windows laptop with a 360-degree hinge and touchscreen, or made the switch from Windows to macOS? Was it worth it, and are there any things you miss about your previous device?
Both options have their pros and cons, which is why I’m struggling to decide.
Ideally, I’m looking for something as compact as possible, with good battery life, so I don’t have to constantly look for a power outlet. A touchscreen and a 360-degree hinge would be nice to have, and I’d also like the flexibility of Windows when it comes to software and gaming.
The MacBook appeals to me because of its battery life, portability, and fanless design on certain models. However, they’re not exactly cheap, and I’m worried that I might end up spending a lot of money on something that will mostly sit unused at home and only get taken out when I travel.
On the other hand, most Windows laptops have cooling fans, and I’d really like something small, ideally around 13 inches, with a touchscreen and a convertible design. Windows also gives me more flexibility when it comes to software and playing games, even if gaming will only be an occasional thing.
I’ve already tried an iPad Pro, but iPadOS just doesn’t cut it for my needs. I need a full desktop operating system, not a tablet OS like iPadOS or Android.
For context, this would be a secondary device. I’d still do most of my gaming and heavier tasks on my desktop PC, so the laptop would mainly be for travelling and occasional use.
I do have an iPhone, but I don’t consider that a deciding factor.
So, what would you go for in my situation: a MacBook or a compact 2-in-1 Windows laptop?
If you’ve owned both, I’d especially love to hear about your real-world experience, what you liked and disliked, and whether you’d make the same choice again.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated! :D

I’m currently looking for a new 14-inch 2-in-1 laptop, and something about Lenovo’s newer Yoga models doesn’t make sense to me.
For example:
Lenovo Yoga 7i Gen 10 (2025)
Intel Core Ultra 7 258V
Intel Arc 140V integrated graphics
32 GB RAM
Lenovo Yoga 7a Gen 11 (2026)
AMD Ryzen AI 7 445
AMD Radeon 840M integrated graphics
32 GB RAM
From the benchmarks I’ve seen, the older Intel Arc 140V is significantly faster than the newer Radeon 840M. Yet the newer AMD model can cost considerably more.
I’ve also noticed that the older Ryzen AI 7 350 comes with Radeon 860M graphics, while the newer Ryzen AI 7 445 only has Radeon 840M.
What am I missing here?
Why are newer laptop generations being released with seemingly weaker hardware? Is this mainly about efficiency, manufacturing costs, product segmentation, or something else?
I’d really appreciate some insight from people who understand these processors or have experience with the newer Yoga models.

So after waiting for my Dell Precision 7770 to arrive, I finally got it today, only to find out it's still registered to Ford through Windows Autopilot.
Seriously, how does Dell Refurbished sell laptops without checking this stuff first?
Called Dell and apparently it'll take 3-5 days to get it removed. I know it's not the end of the world, but it's pretty annoying to finally get the laptop and then have to wait another week before I can actually use it.
I've seen some people mention using Rufus to install Windows offline and bypass the setup. I'm tempted to just do that and get started rather than wait around.
My only concern is whether I'd end up having to set everything up again once Dell finally removes the lock.
Anyone else dealt with this?

Hi everyone,
I recently repaired my laptop hinge using a bolt 🔩. The repair is working, but the problem is that the **end of the bolt protrudes approximately 1 inch from the back of the laptop screen**.
It doesn't look very good aesthetically, so I'm looking for some ideas to cover or hide the protruding part and make the repair look cleaner.
I'm mainly looking for a **DIY touch-up solution** that doesn't look ugly and, if possible, doesn't require replacing the screen's back cover.
Some ideas I have considered are covering it with a small piece of plastic, using some kind of cap, or making a small cover around it. However, I'm not sure what would look best or be practical.
**What would you recommend for hiding the protruding bolt?** Has anyone done a similar laptop hinge repair and found a neat way to cover it?
Any suggestions or DIY ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I'm currently looking for a ultra-portable laptop for university and freelancing (mostly short-form content editing like Reels/TikToks, light color grading, and daily tasks).
The HP OmniBook 7 Aero (AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 / Radeon 840M / 100% sRGB display) seems to hit almost every single sweet spot for me:
Extremely lightweight (< 1kg) for daily commuting.
Native x86 compatibility with zero emulator/plugin headaches in Premiere Pro / CapCut (unlike ARM alternatives like Snapdragon X1-26-100).
Great color accuracy and build quality.
The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger is the 16GB soldered RAM (LPDDR5x).
Since it's non-upgradable, I'm trying to evaluate how much of a constraint this will be over the next 3–4 years. From my workflow, 1080p and light 4K short-form edits usually hover around 10–12GB of RAM usage. Plus, I already have a desktop at home for heavier rendering or complex projects.
For those using modern Ultrabooks with fast 16GB soldered memory for video editing and daily college use:
Has the 16GB limit ever genuinely choked your workflow?
Is sacrificing upgradability a reasonable trade-off to get a sub-1kg chassis with an accurate screen and all-day battery life?
Would love to hear your thoughts and practical experiences!

I got this from the delivery Hub directly.
Found the hub myself without any support.
Upgraded to a better laptop after 3 years.
I exchanged my laptop for the first time.
Insane CC discount during BBD flipkart sale.
Insane new start for me. So grateful to the reddit community.
I just have to figure out how to debloat and set up a physical space with a keyboard, mouse, laptop stand and a skin.
I would appreciate some recommendations.
So grateful to the reddit community.
New beginnings ^_^

both launched in aug and the price gap is smaller than it used to be, so i put the specs side by side:
helios neo 16 (2026)
-up to i9- 14900HX
-rtx 5070
-16" wqxga (2560 X 1600), 180hz
-up to 32gb ddr5
- launch price 2,42,990
nitro 5 ( 2026, i7 config)
-i7- 14650HX
-rtx- 5050 8gb
-16" 1920 X 1200, 165hz
-16gb ddr5, up to 32gb
- around 1.85L on acer's store
so roughly 58K more for a 5070, a stronger cpu and a 1600p screen. for 1200p gaming the nitro 5 looks like the sensible buy. if u edit a lot or want to game at 1600p, the helios makes sense, anyone here with either?

Out of warranty repairs are where people get burned, and its usually the bill changing between the phone and the counter, not the repair itself. what i'd ask, any brand:
- call the brand first and ask for an estimate for part + labour. note the number and who told u
- ask what the diagnostic charge is and whether it's adjusted if u go ahead
- get the estimate in writing with the part named before u approve
- a line on the screen is the panel, not the motherboard. if someone quotes a board for a display fault, get a second opinion
- authorised = genuine part + warranty on the repair. local shop = cheaper, sometimes compatible parts. know which one you're paying for
- ask for the old part back
anything i missed?

spent way too long researching oled laptops for college so sharing the notes. this is the SFG14-73 (Core ultra 5 125H) config listed in India.
- screen 14"2.8K oled. for reading Pdfs and notes at night its a real step up from ips panels at the price
- weight 1.3kg, 14.9mm thin. easy to carry all day
- battery: 65wh, big for a 14 inch. real hours depend on brightness, check reviews
- charging: Usb-c, so one charger can do phone + laptop
- ram: 16gb lpdrr5x, soldered. can't upgrade, so 16 is what u want anyway
- fingerprint + face login, 1440p webcam, nice for online classes
- price: listings show around 77k, lower in sales. its been going in and out of stock so check before u plan around it
downsides: oled is glossy so sunlight reflections, intel arc grapics is fine for light stuff but not gaming, and soldered ram means u buy the right config once.
anyone else comparing oled laptops in this budget, what's on your list?

I have a six-year-old laptop. I replaced the battery in February 2023, but it started failing again in 2025, and I've been using it plugged in ever since. The battery is also swelling and has cracked the laptop's body. I replaced the screen in March 2026 as well. Overall, I've already spent around 30% of the laptop's original price on repairs.
It often crashes during startup, and whenever it enters automatic repair, it never manages to fix the issue or identify the cause. I've also noticed multiple signs that the laptop might have memory issues. Now, it won't turn on at all. The screen is black, the fan is running at full speed, and neither the built-in keyboard nor my external keyboard lights up.
Getting it repaired would be expensive, although still cheaper than buying a new laptop. But is it worth it?

Looking for a reliable ₱30k–₱40k ($500–$700) laptop for graphic design work
Hi! Im not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but Im looking for a work laptop with a budget of around ₱30,000–₱40,000 in the PH.
Im a graphic designer working mainly with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and multiple Chrome tabs (they are all usually open together). I mainly do vector work for apparel/print production.
My current laptop is a 10yo Dell Inspiron 7559 (i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, GTX 960M, HDD). It still handles most of my work well, but Im starting to look for an affordable replacement since this one has given me too many scares this year, like a BSOD...
What Im looking for (I think, I did use ChatGPT to help me compile these since I have no idea what Im doing):
Some laptops ChatGPT suggested as possible candidates were the Acer Aspire Lite 15 (i5-13500H), Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (i5-13420H), ASUS Vivobook 15 (Core 5 120U), MSI Modern 15 (i5-1334U), and Acer Aspire Lite 15 (Ryzen 7 7730U). I did a search for those, and they look fine? I really have no idea but they are options.
Id like to avoid HP since we dont have great experiences with it.
Also, do all laptops come with some kind of preinstalled software that acts like ads? My Dell came with McAfee and it would pop up so much. I tried to delete it, but Im pretty sure I still have files from it. Ive also seen a comment about Lenovo having good hardware but bad preinstalled software? Sorry Im not sure about these parts, havent needed to buy a new gadget in a long time.
Any advice or suggestions would be great, thank you!
