So after waiting for my Dell Precision 7770 to arrive, I finally got it today, only to find out it's still registered to Ford through Windows Autopilot.
Seriously, how does Dell Refurbished sell laptops without checking this stuff first?
Called Dell and apparently it'll take 3-5 days to get it removed. I know it's not the end of the world, but it's pretty annoying to finally get the laptop and then have to wait another week before I can actually use it.
I've seen some people mention using Rufus to install Windows offline and bypass the setup. I'm tempted to just do that and get started rather than wait around.
My only concern is whether I'd end up having to set everything up again once Dell finally removes the lock.
Anyone else dealt with this?

Hi everyone,
I recently repaired my laptop hinge using a bolt 🔩. The repair is working, but the problem is that the **end of the bolt protrudes approximately 1 inch from the back of the laptop screen**.
It doesn't look very good aesthetically, so I'm looking for some ideas to cover or hide the protruding part and make the repair look cleaner.
I'm mainly looking for a **DIY touch-up solution** that doesn't look ugly and, if possible, doesn't require replacing the screen's back cover.
Some ideas I have considered are covering it with a small piece of plastic, using some kind of cap, or making a small cover around it. However, I'm not sure what would look best or be practical.
**What would you recommend for hiding the protruding bolt?** Has anyone done a similar laptop hinge repair and found a neat way to cover it?
Any suggestions or DIY ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got this from the delivery Hub directly.
Found the hub myself without any support.
Upgraded to a better laptop after 3 years.
I exchanged my laptop for the first time.
Insane CC discount during BBD flipkart sale.
Insane new start for me. So grateful to the reddit community.
I just have to figure out how to debloat and set up a physical space with a keyboard, mouse, laptop stand and a skin.
I would appreciate some recommendations.
So grateful to the reddit community.
New beginnings ^_^

After months of research and doom scrolling finally decided to book this laptop...
I had already ordered it in the big billions day sale but as we all know how the fcking flipkart works they canceled my order stating that it was canceled by customer. Let's hope it delivers ✌🏻😭
Please tell me how this device is overall
I am an first year diploma computer engineering student My use case :
Coding
Basic Autocad
Multitasking
Playing games occasionally
Running local AI models
Occasional video editing
I will be using my laptop for 5-6 years so that's the most important thing about it and second one is better battery backup as I will be traveling to college with it.
The only thing that I am little bit stressed is that it has only 16gb ram and 512gb ssd as it's quite less as per my usage. Please guys tell me is this an device which I can use for long term and if anyone has it please give me a user review 😄

GPU fan is dead, 0rpm. I have an ROG Scar 16 (4080) and from what I can see the heat pipes between CPU, GPU, and mid fan are all interconnected. I am able to play Overwatch at 200+ fps with the occasional stutter and haven't been having any actual issues. The GPU idles at 60-80 degrees at the moment which is above the usual 45-55. I've lowered its power limits from 150W to 80W and disabled its boost power.
Is it bad to keep using the GPU?

spent way too long researching oled laptops for college so sharing the notes. this is the SFG14-73 (Core ultra 5 125H) config listed in India.
- screen 14"2.8K oled. for reading Pdfs and notes at night its a real step up from ips panels at the price
- weight 1.3kg, 14.9mm thin. easy to carry all day
- battery: 65wh, big for a 14 inch. real hours depend on brightness, check reviews
- charging: Usb-c, so one charger can do phone + laptop
- ram: 16gb lpdrr5x, soldered. can't upgrade, so 16 is what u want anyway
- fingerprint + face login, 1440p webcam, nice for online classes
- price: listings show around 77k, lower in sales. its been going in and out of stock so check before u plan around it
downsides: oled is glossy so sunlight reflections, intel arc grapics is fine for light stuff but not gaming, and soldered ram means u buy the right config once.
anyone else comparing oled laptops in this budget, what's on your list?

HP 247 G8 Notebook PC
r/laptops • u/DetectiveAncient2578 • 5h ago
both launched in aug and the price gap is smaller than it used to be, so i put the specs side by side:
helios neo 16 (2026)
-up to i9- 14900HX
-rtx 5070
-16" wqxga (2560 X 1600), 180hz
-up to 32gb ddr5
- launch price 2,42,990
nitro 5 ( 2026, i7 config)
-i7- 14650HX
-rtx- 5050 8gb
-16" 1920 X 1200, 165hz
-16gb ddr5, up to 32gb
- around 1.85L on acer's store
so roughly 58K more for a 5070, a stronger cpu and a 1600p screen. for 1200p gaming the nitro 5 looks like the sensible buy. if u edit a lot or want to game at 1600p, the helios makes sense, anyone here with either?

Hey everyone,
Buying a refurbished ThinkPad from a Canadian dealer for my kid's schoolwork and daily use. It will mostly stay at home, but will occasionally ride in a backpack for classes. I want something smooth and responsive that can also handle light casual gaming like Minecraft and Roblox.
Trying to decide between these options:
Main Contender — ThinkPad T14s Gen 3 (Grade A):
$600 CAD: Core i5-1245U (12th Gen) | 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 14" 1200p (16:10) | Iris Xe Graphics | 92% Battery Health
$675 CAD: Same specs, but upgraded to 512GB SSD
Other Grade A / A+ Options from the Dealer:
ThinkPad X13 Gen 3 (Grade A+) — $595 CAD
Specs: i5-12th Gen | 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 13.3" 1200p (16:10) | Iris Xe
ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 (Grade A) — $600 CAD
Specs: i5-12th Gen | 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 14" 1200p (16:10) | Iris Xe | Built-in Ethernet
ThinkPad T490 (Grade A) — $250 CAD
Specs: i5-8th Gen | 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD | 14" 1080p | UHD 620 Graphics
For school + Roblox/Minecraft, is it worth stepping up to the 12th-Gen Iris Xe models ($600–$675), or would the older $250 T490 be enough? And on the T14s, is paying $675 for 512GB worth it vs $600 for 256GB?
Thanks for the advice!

Hey everyone,
I'm currently looking for a ultra-portable laptop for university and freelancing (mostly short-form content editing like Reels/TikToks, light color grading, and daily tasks).
The HP OmniBook 7 Aero (AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 / Radeon 840M / 100% sRGB display) seems to hit almost every single sweet spot for me:
Extremely lightweight (< 1kg) for daily commuting.
Native x86 compatibility with zero emulator/plugin headaches in Premiere Pro / CapCut (unlike ARM alternatives like Snapdragon X1-26-100).
Great color accuracy and build quality.
The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger is the 16GB soldered RAM (LPDDR5x).
Since it's non-upgradable, I'm trying to evaluate how much of a constraint this will be over the next 3–4 years. From my workflow, 1080p and light 4K short-form edits usually hover around 10–12GB of RAM usage. Plus, I already have a desktop at home for heavier rendering or complex projects.
For those using modern Ultrabooks with fast 16GB soldered memory for video editing and daily college use:
Has the 16GB limit ever genuinely choked your workflow?
Is sacrificing upgradability a reasonable trade-off to get a sub-1kg chassis with an accurate screen and all-day battery life?
Would love to hear your thoughts and practical experiences!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Italy
1000/1300 euros (1100/1500 USD)
Maybe, but i'd prefe if it's new
Any
Preferably light, but it’s not a big deal
Mainly study, but if the components can handle some light gaming it would be perfect
Standard
Chrome (yt, google docs...), university site, games like project zomboid, factorio, fortnite...
like 6 hours(?)
Performance, weight, battery life, size
hi, i recently got a 20% discount code for the samung store and i wanted to know if there is any good deal i can have beetween that and the black friday. However, from what i read, samsung laptops aren't worth their price, except the screen, if you compare the components with other brands (i was proposing samsung because every device i own is samsung, but for examle a buddy of mine bought a laptop, i think acer, with intel9, rtx 5050 and 32gb of ddr4 for like 1500 euros)

Hi friends, I've been racking my brain for weeks trying to find the right laptop for my needs. I was looking at a ZenBook 14 OLED with a Ryzen processor and 16 GB of RAM. But I saw on the forum that some people have had bad experiences with the laptop within a year, I mainly want it for amateur music production, school/work stuff, and occasionally playing Fortnite or Marvel Rivals. I don't really know much about computers, so I'd appreciate any help that they could give me.
From the budget that does not exceed 1350 Dollars are fine, and preferably ones that can be obtained in Mexico.

Out of warranty repairs are where people get burned, and its usually the bill changing between the phone and the counter, not the repair itself. what i'd ask, any brand:
- call the brand first and ask for an estimate for part + labour. note the number and who told u
- ask what the diagnostic charge is and whether it's adjusted if u go ahead
- get the estimate in writing with the part named before u approve
- a line on the screen is the panel, not the motherboard. if someone quotes a board for a display fault, get a second opinion
- authorised = genuine part + warranty on the repair. local shop = cheaper, sometimes compatible parts. know which one you're paying for
- ask for the old part back
anything i missed?

I have a six-year-old laptop. I replaced the battery in February 2023, but it started failing again in 2025, and I've been using it plugged in ever since. The battery is also swelling and has cracked the laptop's body. I replaced the screen in March 2026 as well. Overall, I've already spent around 30% of the laptop's original price on repairs.
It often crashes during startup, and whenever it enters automatic repair, it never manages to fix the issue or identify the cause. I've also noticed multiple signs that the laptop might have memory issues. Now, it won't turn on at all. The screen is black, the fan is running at full speed, and neither the built-in keyboard nor my external keyboard lights up.
Getting it repaired would be expensive, although still cheaper than buying a new laptop. But is it worth it?

So in 2020 I bought a refurbished Fujitsu E554 with 16GB DDR3. I upgraded its CPU to 4712MQ and I use two Samsung 860 Pro SSDs in it, one in place of the DVD bay. Windows 11, the newest, works no problem. I can charge with USB C charger as I have a cable reduction /connector).
What makes me sad that a completely usable laptop from 6-8 years ago, I know made in 2015, is simply almost garbage now even for net browsing or YouTube. It works, it has Passmark around 5800, quite fast, and USB3, but why would I use it when almost everything round is working faster?
Just a fully functional machine simply made obsolete by Windows choices and Dev preferences that make demanding apps.
Don't take me wrong, I also have another brand new laptop, but what makes me sad that unless we use these with W8.1 or Linux, there is no real reason to use it, even though the specs are pristine.
I understand we are not in 2015 anymore but the tech progress simply feels too fast for fast silicons of the past.
What do you think?
Hello ! Ill be going off to uni soon for a pure mathematics bachelor. I'll mostly use my laptop for my courses and also for prep for finance internships (so essentially excel and coding). Idk anything about laptops. Sometimes I like to play very basic games (like some farming simulators or 2d games, roblox) so it'd be cool if the laptop can support that as well.
I got an opportunity to buy HP EliteBook 830 G8 i7 16/512 for around 200 usd but idk if i should get it or skip the deal.
Everyone talks about Lenovo ThinkPads etc hence im skeptical about this laptop. Would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

if your laptop sounds like it's about to take off while you're just in a browser, and the area above the keyboard gets hot, the fan and heatsink are probably packed with dust. it gets worse over time so a lot of people assume the laptop is just old and slow now.
first things to try: open task manager (or activity monitor on mac) and see if something is actually pegging the cpu. if nothing is and the fan is still screaming, it's airflow. shut it down, unplug it, and blow short bursts of compressed air into the vents at an angle. hold the fan still with a toothpick through the vent so it doesn't overspin.
if that barely helps, the dust is matted against the heatsink fins and the bottom panel has to come off to clean it properly. on most laptops that's just screws, but look up your model first since some have clips that snap easily. while it's open, old thermal paste can be part of it too if the laptop is a few years old.
using it on a bed or blanket makes all of this way worse since it blocks the intake.

So guys I need to buy a gaming laptop, I'm planning to go for AMD and above 3050rtx I mean 4050 or 5070 what do you guys suggest.
I thought of buying lenovo loq essential but I'm seeing some critism for it because it's " ESSENTIAL" model, asus tuf has this specs but ram is only 8gb which is a bs.
What should I do?

Hi everyone, I need help troubleshooting my HP laptop.
My HP laptop is having a boot problem, and I’m trying to figure out whether the issue is caused by the SSD, its connection, or something else. But the fans spin when i turn it on.

My asus ux480fd laptops battery percentage is stuck at 0% even if charger is plugged in. Yesterday it worked okay and battery health is 99% in battery report. MyAsus says everything okay with the battery. When i unplug the charger, the laptop shuts down after few seconds.
I have reinstalled battery firmware, all updates are up to date, did the Ec reset, unplugged and reinstalled the battery but nothing helps. The battery is 2 years old chinese knock off. When measuring with multimeter the battery voltage is 14.23V. Is the battery dead or is there problem in the motherboard? Dont want to order new battery if it is not the fault. Any other ideas/fixes?
