New Rule: No A.I generate content or posts

After the responses to "Ban A.I" post by u/Theacecadet, and the overwhelming majority in favor of it, we've created a new rule banning all A.I content. We all know its out there, but lets leave it "out there" and out of this subreddit, so this even includes reposting A.I slop to dunk on it.

Unfortunately Reddit doesn't have imbeded tools to deal with A.I so it will be up to us as a community to moderate and filter it.

Please report any posts you see generated using AI and this will flag it for review/moderation.

2000: Jet Li goes on his fan message board to explain why ROMEO MUST DIE sucks

Post image

It's pretty obvious his western films as well as other Asian action stars pale in comparison to their HK movies in terms of fights, editing, directing and stunts.

Even Jackie Chan rarely does western action movies anymore due to his lack of control and trust in the Hollywood system.

WOOF! WOOF! ‘Shadow Strays’ filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto gives an update on ‘Sleeping Dogs’ starring Simu Liu

In a recent post on X, Tjahjanto gave us a brief update: “Since a lot of you is asking what’s the update on Sleeping Dogs. Trust me when I say Simu and I are doing our best to slowly make this come into fruition. Trying to stay as loyal to Wei Shen’s tale while adding layers to make the narrative more fitting into a feature film is not an easy task. We’re taking our time to make the best version of Sleeping Dogs the movie.

Golden Harvest/ Shaw Brothers Actresses and actors lives after career

This might be a weird question or topic, but yesterday I watched Goodbye Dragon Inn.

Two actors of the actual movie Dragon Inn showed up in this movie and one of the lines they said to each other hit me.

"No one goes to the movies anymore, and no one remembers us anymore"

It made me think of the lives of all these actors and actresses that we love to see on our screens and how their lives are or were after or during their careers.

Do people want to share some personal anecdotes about HK actors/actresses they looked into? It can be funny, heartwarming, sad etc.

It does not have to be a famous actor, like Chow Yun Fat. It can also be an actor or actresses that was often a side character, for example.

Sorry, I know this is a very niche and probably a weird topic, but that line hit me hard.

I bought this sword in SF Chinatown years before the movie came out. It has a striking resemblance to the one Peter Kwong's char Rain used during Lo Pan's Ritual and during the final battle in John Carpenter's cult classic Big Trouble In Little China (1986). Wonder if the prop department found it the same way.

He also used it here

Kicking myself for not buying two xD.

Most emotionally charged movies?

I want screams and tears during fights, bodies trembling from emotions.

Some examples would be In The Line of Duty 3, She Shoots Straight or Monkey Man

Review 100 Yards Movie Review

This was surely a nice surprise, this movie knows exactly what it is. a 108 minute tightly well paced engaging noble and thrilling martial arts movie that doesn't linger around or meander.

The fights are well choreographed and you feel every punch and wack of the stick, Andy On is always good as the villain and what an amazing ending fight scene. This was an 8/10 for me

The Fantastic Magic Baby (1975) The best part of this Chang Cheh/Shaw Brothers movie is an early appearance by a 23-year-old Philip Kwok as a stone golem | Three years later, Kwok would star as the Lizard in the fan-favorite martial arts film The Five Deadly Venoms (1978)

My humble Martial Arts VHS collection

Post image
326 Upvotes

I started collecting Kung Fu, Martial Arts, and Samurai VHS about 5 years ago. A good amount was found out in the wild of midwestern thirft and second hand shops. Ebay bulk lots have helped lot filling weird little gaps.

Excuse the MST3K tapes, i just like to keep them on hand as palate cleansers.

If you had to plan a double feature from the stack, how would you plan it?

I would go Lyrical Blades x Chess Boxing Destroyer

Buddha's Palm/如來神掌 (1982) Entering its final years as a full-time film production studio, Shaw Brothers was making increasingly outrageous martial arts fantasy films that are, IMO, among the coolest and most wildly entertaining movies ever made

Film Clip A fight scene breakdown from our film, by a director with 20 years of bagua training

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, people of r/kungfucinema ! I’m Olga, producer and co-writer of KILL/SAVE, an ACTION and sci-fi film (recently shot in Catalonia/Spain).
I wanted to share this breakdown of one of our fight scenes because i think this community will understand better than most why this matters to us. The breakdown shows how the scene came together from Den’s storyboards to the shoot.

Our director, Den Kryuchkov, has been practising baguazhang for over 20 years and he’s also a huge martial arts film fan (actually he watches everything from old Hong Kong classics to the latest action releases from allover the World) so when we started working on the film, we knew the fights would be practical, not CGI or AI made (i see how you feel about that here in this subreddit, and we agree).
Den and Oscar Fernandez (our Spanish choreographer) deliberately mixed styles: from Spanish fencing to wushu. Our lead actor, Matt Testro, performed his own fights on camera, without a double. For the POV shots Oscar stepped in as his character.

A question for you: which films do you think best capture kung fu itself, rather than just a fight? And why do internal styles like bagua so rarely make it onto the screen?

Discussion The Butterfly Murders (1979): A group of martial world heroes join together to solve the mystery of a derelict manor involving a curse of killer butterflies. Tsui Hark’s feature directorial debut blends the wuxia genre with elements of giallo and gothic horror.

Overall I didn’t love this film, but it’s an interesting genre mashup. The convoluted plot is full of “wtf is going on” moments.

I just got my first tattoo inspired by one of my favorite quotes from my favorite movie the classic 36 Chamber of Shaolin. Translation无智无获(wú zhì wú huò) In English this means [without wisdom no gain] it’s a philosophy that I have carried with me through life. Would love to hear your thoughts!!

Film Clip Stallone's homage to Jackie Chan & Police Story in Tango & Cash ( Stallone has been a big fan of Jackie Chan for years and they are friends also.

He wanted him to be the villain actually in Demolition Man but Jackie didn't want to play the villain he did get Bullock to name Jackie in the movie as were she learned to fight, a name drop that most people didn't get at that time as Jackie wasn't a big star yet in the West ( I remember me and my HK movie buddy at the time having a laugh when we watched it in the cinema and the rest of audience didn't react), in that regard u can say Demolition Man predicted the future correct lol.

Reason why Jackie also didn't appear in The Expendables movies as Stallone has offered him many times a role but Jackie wants only to appear if he has a big role. For some reason the announced movie with them Ex- Baghdad from 2017 also never came together but it did end being made as Hidden Strike with John Cena taking over the role of Stallone.

They did appear together in one movie both in a small sup role in the terrible American Hollywood film spoof ''An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn''.

This is not the only time Police Story influenced an American movie in Bad Boys II they copied the shanty town opening scene.
