News Join the Kroger Discord Server!

With all the new members in the subreddit I wanted to extend another invitation to the Kroger Discord server. It's all employee-ran outside the reigns of corporate where we can discuss our experiences at work with other people across the company in real time. This is a tremendous resource for getting feedback and assistance in your job. Better than Kroger can offer themselves. In the server, all roles in the Kroger enterprise are welcome. Thank you!

Question How long does a sexual harassment investigation take?

Yes, I am writing this on an unscheduled break—because there’s no reason this employee should be continuing to try to talk to me. Today, I explicitly told him, ā€œLeave me the fuck alone!ā€”ā€œ and it isn’t the first time! You would’ve thought me blocking him four times, on three separate platforms, and one being his mother or sister’s phone, he’d get the idea. He obviously seems to lack some social awareness, and even tried to contact me through my sister’s Instagram—she also blocked him. I had caught an attitude prior to telling him to fuck off so explicitly, stating that if he really needed the car key, he could get it once I place it inside, as I do not want this man in my remote vicinity—I’m not even comfortable handing off the cart key. Not to mention, someone was already doing carts outside of me and him, and I know for fact he saw them out there doing it. He messaged me asking for nude photos, and I provided a screenshot and written statement to HR over the weekend. Apparently, they have not had a talk with him. Even later he tried to talk to me again, simply calling my name, and I walked off and ignored his perverted ass.

Question Anyone know why theres such a big Daily Pay push recently?

Ive noticed recently a lot of Daily Pay ads on the intercom. I’m sure the company gets some kind of benefit from us using it but does anyone know what it is? The ads are annoying.

Venting How to transfer to a different department? Rant/question

I work at ralphs in so cal, and I unfortunately got put in front end. I live kinda far so gas to get to and from work adds up fast, in addition to having to buy food and drinks (especially when its hot outside and im getting carts half the day). They refuse to give full time hours, which further limits what i make.

I asked my co workers and they told me they just asked and were put in the department they wanted (as long as there was an opening). I decided to try and transfer to another department since the hours are actually normal, so possibly even full time hours. Well i asked the 2nd in command manager and they said they didn't know. Then I mentioned it casually to the store director and he jjst laughed at me and told me something weird.

Im trying to transfer to the murrays cheese counter, and the woman working the counter is the only one there; and even said she would love to have me help since shes the only one there. Also im getting fed up with doing front end because I bust my butt going above and beyond, yet none of that gets acknowledged. And I get criticized for the stupidest things.

For example I come in on my days off when they ask for help, I come in early when they ask and even stay later when they need help. They have me on carts for like 4 hours straight at times and I dont complain to them, they even have me take over others cart hours. I get all the carts in the lot within 40 mins or less. Yet never once have I been thanked. Thankfully 98% of people at my work are nice but theres one manager who's very controlling and rude. Telling me i have to ask permissionto go out for my cart hour or else ill be sent home. Then i abide by their request then get yelled at because in their words "why do you need to ask to go out for your cart hour?". (Plus the store director kinda being a dick to me at times for no reason).

Even when i work extra I barely make $300, after food and gas i barely make a profit of $100-$140. I dont wanna leave my friends at work but I also don't like being worked like a dog and being treated like shit, while getting terrible hours and money. Im tempted to leave if they dont approve my cheese counter request, because sams club is hiring for full time for rotisserie cook. And last time I worked at Sam's club I was making really good money. Since my hours are all over the place (like sometimes working until 11 pm then the next day having to go in at 5), it makes it impossible to even work a second job. If i got transferred to the cheese counter id at least be able to work a second job like some of my co workers are doing.

Sorry for the rant and thanks for hearing me out.

Question Meat Clerk Job

So I’ve just spent a long time reading the Hot posts and posts about meat in this subreddit. I have an interview soon but problem is I don’t buy meat at meat counters and don’t know what to expect from either sale end. I’m not sure if I’ll get the job but I want to be prepared in case. I am an overthinker so… It’ll be in CA close to my home with a min hourly of $17 so even though I’ve read some negative things I’m ok with it.

The posts about lack of training has me trying to make up for what I don’t know. From what I gathered, time often gets taken up by customers at the counter? What are the questions they usually ask and how would I find out info if I don’t know the answers? Can anyone recommend a source to learn meat? Idk details about the dept staffing. Any info on what the meat clerk tasks are would be so great!! Wrapping, stocking, opening and closing, etc.

EDIT: Thought of another q! The store’s hours are 5am-1am, when would the meat hours be? Also I should say, I do plan on asking the interviewer questions too lol

Venting Average overnights new hire experience at Smith’s..

Post image
17 Upvotes

Honestly I’m just rambling and complaining at this point, sorry for the long read. Looking for tips, comments, other horror stories from this damned company, anything really.
Anyone else get this flavor of Smith’s new hire treatment?

I sent this message in response to my hiring manager asking ā€œHow did last night go? S asked me to reach out and see if you want to work tonight and tomorrow night also? Let me know.ā€

My answer ā€œLast night was. Interesting. I can see why turnover is the way it is.
Training for this sort of position is always going to be hands on and it is definitely a more independent type job, but for the first night there was a lot that was skipped or nonexistent— if I had never done this sort of job before I would have been completely lost and needed a lot more assistance from the others to catch up at the end.
I have never worked a job that didn’t offer a basic walkthrough or at least general pointer as to where
things were and there wasn’t even a small conversation as to what was going to happen or how things go in this store.
It really feels like they expect me to not show up again or that it isn’t worth actually training me and it shows.
I wasn’t trained by T, but by J (I don’t even know if thats her name, she didn’t introduce herself or ask for my name.) She seemed in charge of the order of things and was very very busy and didn’t answer a lot of my questions because of it.

I’m just trying to be honest because I want to work here for a while, but if management of the overnights act like this on the first night it’s going to be difficult. If theres anyone else I’m supposed to talk to about this I will. Thanks for your time!ā€

Hiring manager replied with ā€œI will pass this on Thanks for the heads up. Thanks for your honestyā€

This is a brief summary of what happened my first shift:
I walked into the building and was told to follow/ shadow J. She led me to the backroom, pointed at a pallet jack and said ā€œbring that to the pasta wallā€.
I had never touched a pallet jack in my life
Never been in the back room
Never been into this Smith’s other than the initial interview (I just moved here)
Was baffled at the phrase ā€˜pasta wall’
And had never heard the term ā€˜spotting’ and had to look it up on my first break because my questions weren’t being answered by her (and I didn’t even learn her name until my third shift from someone else).
She was almost silent while spotting and did not give any info on what we were doing. I had to ask a coworker to explain the list/ assignment sheet and stuff and I didn’t see her again until almost 5am. Oh and I asked how I was supposed to manage top stock and she said ā€œyeah, there are only two ladder carts, so we use milk crates, you just gotta be carefulā€ which is something I didn’t mention to the hiring manager because literally everyone else uses them and I didn’t wanna be the person that changed how things were if it works for everyone else. But I refuse to use a milk crate, I am clumsy enough as it is.
The second night I worked I was completely on my own, and was expected to keep up with everyone else and of course I inevitably fell behind.
I asked her what I was supposed to do with items that didn’t have a location when she came to count what I had left and not only did she not answer, but when she walked away she sighed loudly and mumbled ā€œman, everyone used to be so self-sufficient, whats wrong with people these days?ā€

Oh, and there are only 5 manual pallet jacks (I do not know how to use a mechanical one and they don’t have time to train me) and two of them are broken and one literally has ā€˜trash’ written on it and won’t lift heavy pallets off the floor and the handle won’t stay upright. I feel like we don’t have the choice but to use them to get the job done, but can’t do the job without proper working equipment.

Because of all this and the warehouses not sorting pallets before we get it, spotting is the most frustrating, annoying, stupid, and exhausting part of the entire job. I don’t mind ON stocking and freight work, I worked ON freight at a different company for years before moving, but I mean it when I say that I want to quit every single night because of the first two hours of work.

I have applied to so many jobs doing the absolute most with messaging back first and responding quick, but barely any responses and the ones I do hear back from are for jobs that I applied to months ago when a lower income was possible.

TL;DR Was barely trained for ON position, told to break safety rules first night, and insulted by ON manager third shift.
Genuinely hate my job, makes me miserable and want to give up, and can’t get interviews for work (or anything even close to what Smith’s pays).

Venting What's your cart horror story? Mine is, "People can't park."

I was doing carts yesterday, and I saw this truck parked way over the line around its parking spot. Thankfully, I didn't hit it at all, but parking like that is a recipe for disaster.

What are your carts-related horror stories?

Venting Warehouse/stacking

I have always had issues with some of the things the warehouses do when packing up pallets, but receiving orders lately at night for night crew has become so much of a hazard between horribly wrapped and stacked pallets.

Recently, I almost had a box of frozen chicken fall on. Last night I had a case slip right off a pallet and right on my head. Luckily, it was not the heaviest item on the pallet , but it still hurt. Then I have pallets being stocked on top of ice pallets that are sliding off and have to be split immediately because they are not secured and are just teetering.

I have reached out to upper managers and it just seems to just be "continue reporting," but genuinely worried they are just going to get worse.

Question Any way to look at additional information of old job listings in Opportunity Marketplace?

Hello! I recently transferred from another store and the job listing said it was a flat $22 an hour and not in a scale, but I was instead paid the same wage of $17/hr. I called up my union and the rep asked me to show it to him. Is there any way I can pull up information about old job listings i applied for?

Uplift Good Customer Service at London Ky Kroger

I wrote about a young Kroger associate named Parker who helped me find a box of tea. It sounds ordinary, and in some ways it was. But his kindness, patience, and willingness to help stuck with me long after I left the store.

I shared the story because I think we hear plenty about what's wrong with the world and not nearly enough about the young people who quietly do the right thing every day. The response surprised me. More than 126,000 people have now read it.

Maybe that's because the story was never really about tea. It was about kindness.
