💭Opinion Celebrity MasterChef - Samantha

I'm at home. So I ended up watching a few episodes of the Celebrity Master chef in SonyLiv. The program is like an avg cooking show, which can be used for passing time. But the highlight has been Samantha, who seems so grounded and without any air around her. And she looks good as well. It's a good show for Samantha to remain in the spotlight , while she takes a maternity break.

💬Discussion For all those who dismisses Jailer 2 for cameos

• Upvotes

Brad Pitt came for less than 2 seconds in Deadpool 2, but nobody told Deadpool ran only because of Brad Pitt. But Jailer 2 ran only because of cameos, cause naanga Kollywood paansss.

Bucky and Falcon actors came for less than 30 seconds in Ghosted (Chris Evans and Ana De Armas), but nobody dismissed that either. But Jailer 2 ran only because of cameos, cause naanga Kollywood paansss.

Henry Cavill in Deadpool 3 for 1 second
Chris Evans in Deadpool 3 for 2-3 minutes

💬Discussion Why are films like this still made even in the present day

Post image
3 Upvotes

These kind of films belong in the 90s era . These days we are getting lighthearted romance films like bku and premalu . And honestly it is high time films stop glorifying the pure love concept. Dhanush did this film cause this film director made two good films with dhanush before this . But personally I found this film very regressive..

💬Discussion For the curious, here are some Ramayana first reviews by verified users.

Apparently a telugu user named venki reviews posted reviews before Los Angeles screening was over and gave a mixed review for it.

Yash team has verified that no other screening is happening for Ramayana rn other than Los Angeles one, hence early reviews can be fake and misleading...another user who gave an extremely positive review is also now being called fake.

These are reviews by genuine critics and users who verified their authenticity...more keeps coming...hopefully mo ds allow this post.

❓️Question Do you think Dorothy has managed to create female market in the Tamil Cinema??...

Post image
38 Upvotes

One Thing I Noticed about Dorothy is how widely it's celebrated among women in the South. While watching in theatres, I could spot most of girls and Their Mothers coming together and watching this Movie. And women are going crazy over shipping of sananth and Rishikanth. Do you Think Dorothy has kinda shown the taste of female audience base in Tamil Cinema?? Can we expect much more films in Tamil Cinema which are female centered or female oriented..??

💬Discussion Nelson is not Who we think he is

Post image
• Upvotes

I am thinking a lot about Nelson's directorial skills and aesthetics after watching jailer 2.His whole body of work mostly consists of star driven vehicles but he has a such unique stamp in his visuals that makes him stand apart.I think only after director Mani Ratnam he is the only one who could make rajini actually fit into his directorial style(you could point out other directors but nothing as distinct as Nelson is there).I really believe he could operate on level similar to bong joon ho,Park chan-wook,if he put his mind to it.We really don't put that much thought into his works due to him being ridiculously funny in social interviews and questions asked to him don't go beyond the stars of his films. If he truly make a film without the burden of a star,He could make a something revolutionary.

❓️Question Doubt about Dorothy [SPOILER] Spoiler

After Karthi hands over to Subbu's brothers what he claims is Subbu's body, he hallucinates a transgender woman on the street cursing him out and this causes him to crash his lorry and get into an accident.

The audience is led to believe that he's hallucinating that because of his guilt of having killed Subbu. However we see later that he didn't kill Subbu. In fact, he had a good conversation with him, even accepted Subbu's identity as a woman before returning. All the transgender friends of Subbu are now happy with Karthi. Then why is he hallucinating a transgender woman cursing him?

Don't tell me it's just written like that to mislead the audience. Even if something is written to mislead the audience, it should make narrative sense within the movie. Like for eg, Karthi tells Vadivu anna that yes, he killed Subbu. At that moment, a viewer will feel sad but then he says that he symbolically killed Subbu. This is fine, it makes sense. However, for Karthi to imagine a transgender woman cursing him out makes no sense to me. Unless I'm missing something here?

Does Anirudh's music feel a lot more vibrant and full of personality pre 2020s compared to right now? To be fair, we can have Master and Thiruchittrambalam in the list, but you know, ever since Ani leaned heavy into EDM post Vikram, I feel like his music never feels the same. They are good sure, but I miss the personality his music had. Like to the point, only Netru Ponavai from Jailer 2 and Thangapoovey from Madharasi feel like a window to what was his original style of music, a feeble glimpse to his pre EDM self.

I re-watched Enthiran (Robot) . I first saw this film when I was 6-7 yrs old in 2012 on tv and since then today and God it blew my mind again not this time with the coolness of the action sequences but with the technical prowess and Shankar writing.

I will draw comparisons with raone and brahmastra, both of these movies had a mind blowing concept but to make that concept work they needed a huge budget and to have the potential to recover that budget they needed to corporate massy themes of love , comedy and all . So that it could be paletable for a wider audience.

Where these movies failed , Robot made it its strength. The very first scene of the movie introduces us to its love story and the main conflict is the love story. The comedy for the most part is highly grounded and situational which is still funny .

The only aspect which was awkward, that was rajni sir , his age was visible through the screen but this movie couldn't have been possible without him likewise a kalki is impossible without prabhas but unlike prabha rajni sir at the age of 60 gave his all to this role . He is an outstanding actor but these massy roles have failed to capture rajni the actor throughout the years . His little expressions in 1.0 and the total animated evil performance as 2.0 which could have been cringe easily but he nailed it .

Idk but shankar sprinkled religious imagery throughout the story which was a treat for me . There is so much juice here to discuss but I will leave it for another post .

Rahman's work has been international in this one . The album (ignoring shankars music video) is unique and interesting and the bgms , not a single weak piece. He got all orchestral in this one and that approach works hard in this movie.

💬Discussion Something I found really beautiful about Dorothy is how Subbu and Karthi’s positions in the frame seem to reflect their character arcs. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

During their childhood scenes, Subbu is almost (I’m using the word “almost” here because there are a few exceptions) always on the right and Karthi on the left. As kids, Karthi is the more vulnerable, unsure and less confident/courageous one, while Subbu is assertive, confident and completely protective of him.

But once they grow up, their positions are almost always reversed. Subbu is now on the left and Karthi on the right. And the more you understand their characters, the more beautiful this reversal becomes. Subbu is now struggling with her identity, unsure of herself and still trying to understand who she is, while Karthi has grown into someone assertive, confident and almost cold-hearted towards everyone, while also being protective of Subbu.

But what I found especially beautiful is that in the two adulthood scenes where Karthi has his moments of realisation, redemption and acceptance, their positions switch back to the childhood arrangement, with Karthi on the left and Subbu on the right.

The first is when Karthi decides to save Subbu, and the second is when he goes back to Subbu after finally realising and accepting his own feelings. And in both these moments, Subbu is completely sure of herself and has come to terms with her identity.

It's as if the framing returns to where it began, but the characters have come full circle in completely different ways. As children, Subbu was the one Karthi depended on for courage. As adults, Karthi becomes the one who has to find the courage to accept Subbu, and himself.

I’m not sure of this was intentional and carefully placed, but if it was, it’s sheer brilliance yet again on another level.

PS: Like I said, there are some exceptions to this theory - 2 are very notable. First, the childhood theatre scene where Subbu is the one on the left and Karthi, who’s shy of the kiss scene, is on the right. Another exception is the “Vaaren di” scene where Subbu is once again on the left and Karthi on the right.

ETA: Dear kind stranger, thank you for the award 💜
