Interviews Is this Outfit okay for an Interview?

Got an Interview at Tilly’s (Clothing store in my mall) and was wondering if this outfit is okay ? The last interview I had I dressed jeans and button up and felt very embarrassed no one else for the interview was dressed up as I was! Want to know if this outfit is okay or is it too inappropriate for a basic retail job. (Also I checked Tilly’s dress code is extremely laid back as well)

Post-interview A company taking two months to interview you and then giving you forty-eight hours to accept an offer is wild

I just wrapped up a seven-week hiring gauntlet for a senior project manager role. Five separate interview rounds, a take-home presentation, and two instances where the hiring manager rescheduled with zero notice because of "internal emergencies." I jumped through every single hoop with a smile.

Then, at four-thirty on Friday afternoon, the recruiter sends over the formal offer letter. At the bottom of the email in bold text, it said: "Please note this offer expires on Sunday at midnight."

I sat there staring at my laptop in disbelief. They took forty-nine days to decide if they wanted me, but expected me to read through a twenty-page non-compete agreement, analyze health insurance deductibles, and make a major life decision over a weekend when their own corporate office isnt even open to answer basic questions.

I emailed back politely asking for an extension until Wednesday so I could review the terms properly. The recruiter called me twenty minutes later sounding visibly annoyed, telling me that leadership "values decisive candidates." It is just INSANE. Exploding offers have nothing to do with business urgency and everything to do with bullying candidates before they can finish interviewing elsewhere. Why do companies think this kind of behavior is acceptable? Why is this even a thing?

Onboarding Got the offer letter but I don’t have a Degree.

I got an offer letter from a very good company which I accepted but after I got hired I realised that I needed to submit my transcript for it. The thing is that I am a drop out and have been for the past year and I haven’t updated that on my resume. I am thinking of just faking the transcript but I’m afraid I will be caught.

If anyone has any idea on what I can do in this situation please guide me. The transcript is a mist according to them. They told me that my degree doesn’t need to be finished they just need a transcript but I can’t provide that.
Also if I fake the transcript and get caught what will be the consequences.

Right after applying for a position, it redirects me to this page. An automatic rejection. Are companies taking the piss? Are they advertising jobs they don’t probably have to get a thrill out of messing with people like this?

Work/Life balance Enough is Enough! I will take control of my life

• Upvotes

I’ve been working with a Tier-1 product based company for the past five years, and I’ve spent nearly 10–11 years in the IT industry.
Over the last 2–3 years, I’ve had enough of the constant negative news about layoffs, market crashes, and job insecurity. I’m tired of letting all this uncertainty affect my peace of mind. Now, I’ve decided to take back full control of my life.
I’ll continue to work as long as I’m employed, give my best, and do what I need to do. But I no longer want my happiness to depend on my job, the market, or what’s happening around me.
I want to focus on living life to the fullest, spending quality time with myself and my family, being there for my mother and my son, and appreciating the little things that truly matter.
I know I’m an overthinker, and I’ve been one for as long as I can remember. I’ve spent too much time worrying about things I can’t control. But I don’t want to live that way anymore.
Honestly, I don’t care if Microsoft lays off 60,000 people or Google lays off 10,000. I feel for those affected, but I don’t want to carry the weight of every negative headline on my shoulders.
I’m done letting fear, uncertainty, and overthinking control my life.
From now on, I want to focus on what I can control: my actions, my mindset, my happiness, my health, and the time I spend with the people I love.
I’ll work hard, live responsibly, and prepare for the future, but I’ll also learn to enjoy the present.
My job is a part of my life, not my entire life. My happiness is my responsibility, and my peace of mind is my priority.
I’ve had enough of living in constant worry. It’s time to live, not just survive.

Thanks for letting me vent out here. I don’t want to sound meagre in front of my family.

-A Common Indian IT Guy

Rejections i feel like giving up. not a single interview my entire time unemployed

my post is probably going to get downvoted, i feel like anytime i post on here i just get hate, but whatever.

i’ve been jobless for about 6 months now and im tired of looking. before anyone comes at me sideways, yes.. i’m aware people have been looking for jobs a lot longer than me, but i’ve never been unemployed, let alone this long and it’s really starting to get to me.

i’ve had my resume looked over by so many people, i tailor it to every job posting, and i still haven’t landed a SINGLE interview. either im overqualified, or not qualified enough, or simply just overlooked by the competitive pool of resumes. even on the jobs i get a “perfect match” for.. it seems impossible. i’m getting hit with auto-rejects, being completely ghosted, or rejection letters several months down the line. today even, i got an email for a job i applied to back in may telling me they’re moving forward with other candidates.

i was let go from my last company, and even reapplying there and trying to upkeep relationships has been so challenging because everyone is so swamped and busy in their own way.

i’ve had countless 1:1’s with people that ultimately lead no where. i just hear the same thing i’ve been hearing for years “keep your eyes peeled, keep applying, and keep connecting!” i chased a promotion for 2 years before a transition with a manager didn’t want to see me grow shut it all down and got me fired. everyone i connected even before getting let go, would told me those same exact things and i’ve gotten nowhere.

i can’t keep having 1:1s with people when they just connect me to a trail of 15 other people that ultimately get me no where, and reaching out in and of itself gets so exhausting too because i feel like now, if you can’t help others, no one is looking to help you. i can’t help anyone with no job, and i can’t help when im not given a chance.

i spent almost a year and a half connecting with a handful of individuals from my previous job, but it’s so one sided and i just gave up on reaching out to connect and hear the same thing 10 times over.

anyway.. my unemployment is about to run out and im so stressed, i don’t know what to do. bills coming up, and i have limited savings. i’ve tried everything and im so lost. at this point, literally might just have to throw my morals out the window and become a stripper or something.

Job searching Recruiters?

I've been unemployed now for 3 months, I've noticed that I only get emails from recruiters on linked in, and then they are based out of India (I'm in the States). I've also noticed they aren't hiring for any full time W2 positions only 6 month or 1 year contracts. Is this normal?

Work/Life balance applied for part time, got 4 days of 11am to 10pm for the week. burnt out.

I'm so freaking annoyed. I applied for this part-time waitressing role and I was smacked with long hours for my first week. I didn't expect them to throw me into the shift like that. And there's a one month notice period if I want to quit. The manager was treating me as if I was stupid for not grasping things quickly, and also immediately came to me with the assumption that I fucked up for someone else's mistake. Her tone then shifted with that person. It's a new store so the system isn't perfect either, there's a few blindspots. A lot of things to do. I gotta clock in soon but I'm already dreading it. It's only my third day there as well. Ugh. I just wanna make mistakes without being reprimanded for it.

Leaving a job Was I in the wrong for not informing my boss about an interview?

I work in healthcare and I really like my current job, but the development was a little restricted. Whilst I wasn’t actively looking to leave, I was told by friend about a part-time post in my favourite field, which was an amazing opportunity and a promotion.
I did the interview not thinking I had a chance.

I got offered the job and I was torn. I like my job now but it seemed silly not to take the chance.
I told my boss and I explained the situation, that I love working here and I’d love to stay part time if possible.

She said no….. and she said she was disappointed I didn’t tell her I interviewed. She said that if I had told her, they would’ve worked something out for me to stay part-time.

I knew it may not have been possible feel like I’m being punished and made to feel bad for not informing my boss, although I didn’t think this was the done thing?!

Am I in the wrong? I have taken the other job but I feel a bit sad!

Discipline At what point do you stop missing your old job?

I left a job that I had been at for over 3 years and just recently started a new job and I can’t stop feeling like I miss my old job. I miss talking to my old coworkers and I miss how easy the job was. Since I had been doing it for a couple years the days just felt so mindlessly easy and I could just get my work done while chilling and listening to music or podcasts and not really have to think about it. The only reason I left is because the last couple months management started to get progressively worse and there was a lot of bs going on. Part of me wonders if I should’ve just stuck it out a couple more months to see if things would’ve settled and gone back to normal.

At my new job I feel so incredibly overwhelmed and it’s at a much bigger company and everything feels so overwhelming. It feels so much more corporate compared to what I’m used to and I feel like I’m not adjusting very well. I’m also slightly worried about the training being somewhat lackluster so far compared to past jobs I’ve had. I know I need to give it more time and stay positive but it’s quite hard when I keep thinking about how I wish I was just back at my old job still.

Career development 3rd-year AI & Data Science student from Hyderabad: what should I study for which roles? Open to any direction

I’m a 3rd-year B.Tech student (AI & Data Science) in Hyderabad, and placement season is close. I want to prepare properly instead of guessing.

I’m not locked into one role. I’m open to anything where I can contribute and keep growing, whether that’s software engineering, data analyst, ML/AI engineer, backend, full-stack, QA, or something I haven’t heard of. I’m ready to put in the work on whatever skills a role needs.

So far I’ve been building projects across full-stack (React, Node, MERN) and AI/ML (RAG pipelines, FastAPI, Python), and I’m working through DSA. Beyond that, I don’t have a clear map of what to prioritise.

It would help a lot if you could share:

  1. Which roles are worth targeting as a fresher in India, especially Hyderabad?
  2. For the role you work in, which skills, tools or concepts mattered most in your first job, and which are overrated?
  3. What would you do differently if you were in my position, a year before placements?
  4. Any resources, certifications or project types that helped you get noticed?

I’d also like to hear from people who work in roles outside the usual “SDE or data scientist” picture. Thanks for reading, and any advice, even a single line, is appreciated.

Career planning Any career alternatives based off of my experience and interests?

I have been an events coordinator and front desk at two hotels, worked for the court as a legal assistant, admin assistant for a corporate company and dealership, and lastly a loan processor assistant for a mortgage company.

It was my favorite job I've done so far because there was so much to learn, problem solving, communication within different departments and had various deadlines and required me to be very organized. I love when everyday is different and I also wouldn't mind doing something that involves me being slightly active. I am introverted and enjoy working on my own and not being around many people.

I am also good at helping people but have no interest in Healthcare or working at a hospital.

I have no idea what else to do since so many careers require 2-5 years experience. I've done research on programs at different universities and nothing seems to interest me.

I live in California and I feel like every job posting requires so many years of experience

I'm 26 and have been having a hard time figuring out what to do with my life. I was in mortgage and was promoted 2 months ago and they ended up doing a mass layoff

I have tried so many different careers I feel like I'm running out of options and I have no idea what to do anymore. I'm getting anxious since I'm seeing there's a decline in administration roles too.

Leaving a job I am about to get fired and I feel lost and depressed.

I've been with this company for just about 3 years. We've gone through 18 managers within that time.

I work hard. I'm one of the only full time employees clocking with 45 hours every week. Clocking some of the highest sales of the entire week. I've been told by management themselves I am a strong server/bartender. They've all had positive things to say about me. (all 17 of them) Until this new one.

The backstory is, I have about 5 vivid, realistic, nightmares a week about work. Without fail 5 times a week minimum. It's always me behind the bar or serving an unrealistic amount of people all by myself and I just fail everytime. This past weekend, I worked a shift as busy as it is in my nightmares. I was terrified, overwhelmed, my brain kept blanking out and I was having a hard time even processing peoples words. During this time, the big boss shows up. I knew I was done for in that moment. Management was not supposed to only have 2 of us working it should've been 3. However, it's my fault for showing the stress on my face. I was then pulled and told I will be having a sit down and basically that it's not looking good for me whatsoever. If I won't be fired I'll be demoted or on suspension. I feel extremely depressed because I feel like I don't deserve this over a normal human body reaction. After being let down by management for poor scheduling. I have no degree no backup job. I am extremely lost and terrified for the future

Compensation Ghosted after asking how the bonus structure works for job offer

I recently received a job offer for a company that I was excited for. I was referred by a colleague. I interviewed with who would be my boss, and interviewed with the CEO.

It took 10 days to get the offer. I told them my currently salary, and didn’t not even fluff as I dislike my current job.

The offer came in at $25,000 below what I make now. In addition to the salary, the offer letter said “$XX,XXX salary + potential bonus.” It did not explain the potential amount of the bonus or how the bonus is structured (metrics that I need to hit, company health, etc.).

I emailed the recruiter about the bonus. The response was “the bonus structure has not been shared with me, but I know it could be as high as $X”. Even if the bonus paid out 100%, I would still be taking a 12% paycut. I thanked the recruiter and asked for 24 hours which they agreed to.

The following day, I asked if the salary is negotiable. The stated that they could only raise the potential bonus amount to 20% of salary. I then asked again how the bonus works and how it gets triggered. The recruiter said that the CEO would call me to explain the bonus.

My last communication with them was Friday. I’ve been waiting for the call. My potential start date was 11/2. What did I do wrong?

Career planning What Would I Be Good At?

I currently work in automotive as a store manager for a quick lube place. I love my team but the job stresses me out and I don’t get paid accordingly. I like interacting with the customers, training and helping my employees grow, and I also really like doing inventory. I’m an objective thinker, I like looking at data and coming up with plans to move the store forward and upward. There’s a lot of obstacles in my job that I do not like dealing with. I like a challenge, but I get overwhelmed easily and when I have no one to lean on I get flustered. I’m looking for something more steady paced/slow paced so I can look at the info I need to and plan accordingly. Sometimes my current job doesn’t allow me to do that so I’ll end up throwing something together or just not coming up with a plan at all which is not ideal for me. What would be a good job I could turn into a career that won’t be taken over by AI? I’ve been in automotive for over six years now and I have a college degree. I still don’t know anything when it comes to cars, so becoming a technician is out of the question. I want out of automotive in general because I just don’t know my way around a car and this industry is not for me. I can’t manage technicians if I can’t do the work even if I understand what they’re saying; they won’t respect me and will see right through me. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Startups I hate every morning going to this kind of job

So I just got a job as a nurse, I just finished university and I need some prior knowledge that I don't have because I didn't finish high school for nurses. Anyway, I'm trying hard but some colleagues don't take me seriously. Yesterday during medication distribution I asked where a certain medicine is and a colleague says "damn Stacy I can't tell you everything" while when a male colleague who has been here longer than me asked her, she did answer him. And then when I was drawing up a medicine she commented about me that I don't know anything, damn it. Later an older colleague told me that my mentor is saying why I'm not distributing the therapy and I told him that I asked and she said nothing and he told her to dedicate more time to me and she got pissed later, like she asked me what I don't understand and started saying that I need to do care and everything which I do. And when an agitated patient came I was watching and she holded his arm I asked "should I?" and she was like no. And later she tells me that when such a patient comes I shouldn't stand with crossed arms becaus when a patient comes and she also said that you shouldn't be on your phone in acute care. I said I once looked at my phone in the ambulance and that's it and the head nurse saw me, I don't know how she knows about that anyway and she said all kinds of things, it looks like I'm not trying at all and she just makes a grimace like yes-no with crossed arms, so it looks like I'm not trying at all, I do everything and I get blown off.

Career development Thirteen years of AR experience, where do I go?

To make a long story short, I’ve been an accounts receivable specialist for a company for thirteen years. They got me fresh out of high school. It’s all I’ve known. Due to a decline in mental and physical health, they wouldn’t accommodate me anymore and I had to resign.

I want to work. I live in a more rural part of Iowa and office jobs are far and few between but due to severe arthritis and nerve damage in my lower spine, I can only stand for 5-10 minutes at a time. Does anyone know of any retail or other jobs that aren’t office related that may allow for a more sedentary/short burst form of movement?
