No 120hz iPad Mini 8 No Buy!

Post image

I don’t know who Apple thinks they are!

At this point the are trying to sell 120hz as an ultra premium device with the iPhone Duo.

Apple stop trying to rip people off.

120hz should not be a premium feature. PERIOD!

Ipad mini 8 worth it for me?

Hi all! I currently have a very outdated ipad 6th generation and I have been looking to update it to a new one. I have been seriously looking at getting an ipad mini and waited for the mini 8 release, but I'm really undecided because of the price point (feels like im getting scammed for such a small device lol).

Whenever I but an ipad i make a commitment and stick with it for at least 6 years. The ipad A16 (the logical upgrade) just seems huge coming from a device with thicker bezels, so the ipad mini with similar screen but half the weight is appealing to me.

I mainly use the ipad for watching shows/movies, writing notes down, and doing simpler tasks that dont require my computer.

Opinions. Is the newer ipad mini 8 worth the price considering i wont upgrade for a couple years? Should I stick with the cheaper mini 7, or maybe consider the A16?

Screen protector help

Hello.
I own an iPad mini 7 for about 5 months and the first screen protector I bought was a Paperlike 3. I hated it because it was so scratched by my pencil pro in so little time.
Then I bought the Belmont Kent (that I have till now) and it’s much better, it’s barely scratched but the problem is that is mate and makes the screen very “dirty” I mean no crispy.
Is there any better screen protector for writing that has a more crispy effect? I know about the removable ones but I don’t like the idea.
What other suggestions do I have?
Thanks.

Question Do all the mini8 models have 12gb ram?

The cut down die and neural engine is a known, but is there any reason to suspect they’ll limit 12gb ram to the highest tier as well? Was there any indication w the previous iPads where they had separate 8gb and 16gb ram versions?

iPhone Duo or iPhone 18 Pro + iPad Mini?

So the iPhone Duo costs $2000 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max ($1300) + iPad Mini ($700) would cost the same.

What do you think is the better buy in this case?

Question It’s almost 2027, and Apple is still releasing 60Hz iPads?

I use my iPad mini for gaming pretty often, and honestly, I think the size is just perfect. It’s bigger than a phone, but still small enough to hold comfortably while playing.

The only thing that really bothers me is the 60Hz display. It’s not great for gaming, especially when you’re used to higher refresh rates.

Now Apple has released its latest iPads, and I can’t believe we’re still getting 60Hz displays. The hardware is apparently capable of 120Hz, so it feels like an artificial limitation at this point.

It’s almost 2027, and Apple is still shipping 60Hz iPads. Honestly, this gives me very little reason to upgrade to the next iPad mini.

Rumor External display support MAY come to iPad mini 7, and it's not just because of Apple's wording

Yes, you know Apple's wording; 'With iPadOS 27.2'. Which indicates it may come to at least one older device.

But also supported by some other examples. MacBook Neo, in particular. A18 Pro, can still drive one external display.

And not specific to A18 Pro. A17 Pro was the generation that introduced this particular DP 1.4 capability which allows complete 4K60 extra display.

So yeah, seems like it's just Mini 7 and not any further; not the iPad A16, definitely not the Mini 6. And sadly, not the A19 iPad, cuz that's limited to USB2.

Now, getting hopes up and letting them down is an incredibly horrid thing to do. But since y'all aren't upgrading from Mini 7 or Mini 6, there's nothing left to lose anyway.

Anyone purchasing a Duo AND a Mini 8?

I’m interested to know if anyone is purchasing both, at what specs, and for what reason. Buying both and intending ti return one does not apply.

Personally - I ordered a 512 GB Duo and will likely order a 512 GB Mini 8 (Wi-Fi, standard display). I’m interested in the Duo’s folded size as a longtime iPhone mini enjoyer, and the iPad mini 6 is my current favorite iPad.

Usage-wise, it’s pretty niche, but - when running D&D, i use an app (Encounter+) to project a battle map onto a portable monitor but would appreciate a smaller hand-held device for my personal notes and book references.

Ok but only black and silver?

OK, I know that this is stupid but really they only released the mini eight in gray and silver? That like in and of itself makes me not wanna get it. Am I the only one?

Question Any recommendations for a game controller?

I’m thinking of picking up the new iPad mini and was wondering what folks who use it for gaming would recommend for a controller? Specifically looking for something like the Backbone (which I currently use for my iPhone). I saw some positive reviews for this one, but was wondering if there were any others worth looking at?

Manga and comic reading 7vs8

For the manga readers out there how do you feel about the more rounded corners on the 8? It’s not anything major but it still feels like it would bother me. Take a look at manga on the iphone duo which completely cuts off the corners, got a feeling it’ll be the same effect on the new iPad mini this time round

How likely is an iPad Mini-Pro?

Apple still has a pro and tell event coming up. They’ve revealed the regular MacBooks, the iPad mini prior to the event.

Given that they’ve essentially given the mini8 so many pro features: it’s as thin as the iPad Pros, the bezels are the thinnest on any iPad, its ultra light, and supports both pencils, but no 120hz.

Is it possible that they’re withholding these features for a separate mini pro iPad with 120hz?

Has the smart folio case for 6th and 7th gen iPad mini been discontinued? I can't find it on the apple website/shop anywhere right now. I know it was still listed yesterday.

Question Is the 60hz Really that Big of a Deal?!?

On my phone(samsung s24), I am someone who frequently uses power saving mode when the battery reaches low. The power saving mode changes the 120hz display to 60hz. There have been weeks and even months where I forget to turn off power saving because I dont notice a difference between the 120 vs 60hz display. I understand that for gaming and watching on a big display it is noticeable, but for small displays like a phone or mini tablet, is it really that big of a deal?

Question Increasing the thickness and weight of a Mini in next generation (2027/28) in exchange for 120Hz Dealbreaker or not?

So we all now know there is no 120Hz display in the new mini.

If Apple made the next generation (2027 or other later models) mini thicker and marginally heavier to compensate for the increased refresh rate and battery needed. In addition to potentially including FaceID would you buy it then?

And if not what is the reason?

Question iPad Mini 8

I can understand them not adding Face ID which I would love. But no 120hz is so frustrating in 2026. And now going to have to wait till 2028 to maybe get that option.

I am curious to know how everyone uses their iPad mini. Is it for something small and basic like reading, or do you use it for something else?

Will you be upgrading, or first time user?
