External Display Mode!

According to the press release:

"With iPadOS 27.2, iPad mini also supports extended display mode when connected to an external display, great for users multitasking with windowed apps."

Any idea if the older iPads will get this with the new iPad OS?

Being able to take this on a trip and bring a dongle to hook up to a hotel TV if needed sounds great!

Running iPad Mini6 , upgraded to 27.2 and it doesn’t work. Just continues to mirror the display

I've long been able to plug my iPad Mini 7 into my computer monitor. Is that not the same thing?

This is "Extended" mode, where the monitor acts as a full other screen (no black bars).

Much better! On the mini 7 it just displays your screen with the same aspect ratio and black borders. This is more like adding a monitor, it will extend to fill the screen and should be able to adjust the resolution as well. It also acts as a second screen and won’t just mirror what you have on your screen

Nice. This is awesome. Even if I won't use it more than a handful of times. Curious to see how the windows apps will look and interact on the big screen!

aaaah, thank f'k. This is huge!

My critical top priority was OLED and Extended/External Display.

Promotion with 120 was up next, but in the nice to have column (and it should bloody have it to be fair) - it is not a critical feature.

I've been holding off the lacklustre versions since my Mini4 was stolen years ago, it's time to jump back in with only a relatively small disappointment.

Although, I'd add - where is the 1tb version, my iPhone has 1tb ffs.

I’m so excited! And I just can’t hide it! 🥳🥳🥳😂😂🤣🤣 I actually no longer have a need for the iPad Pro now that’s getting sold. This makes so much sense now. Ultra portable tablet and a desktop workstation when I want it to be. This has been the dream all along.

The wording is a little odd. Based on the RC launching last week, 27.2 should be out in the next few days (maybe today) so I'd expect the new Mini to launch with 27.2 - in which case it wouldn't really be necessary to specify! So is it coming to older Minis? But then why wait til now? It's been on bigger iPads for ages.

Has it really?? Is it working on a standard iPad ? Understand it works on iPad Air and Pros … but they’ve got M series chips afaik

We’re talking “extended display” , not mirrored display
