Post image

Edit: okay so it was in fact the screw, however I never thought to check it because I plugged the thing in originally and NEVER PUT A SCREW IN so I have a ghost in my house. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

How in the sam heck can I remove this? I put it in the wrong outlet last month. it has two three prong on the other side. My leverage situation is not working and I don’t want to die.

Looking for a device to pull and release tension on a rope

Hi everyone. My friend is disabled and cant pull the required 30lbs of force on a line.

I feel like there has to be a motorized device already out there that would suit our needs. The rope (line) diameter would be 2-3mm diameter. It would only need to reel in. Releasing tension on the line should naturally extend it out.

This is to try and help him used a fan powered paraglider. Ideally he could hold a remotes in each hand for each side of the kite.

Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions 😊

What’s the best way to fasten this to the floor? I have rubber floors so an adhesive would work but the only parts of the console that touch the floor are the thin walls.

How do I reattach these locking wheels to rolling bar?

Thumbnail

I found this great little rolling bar in the alley and rescued it for my garage. Everything about it is in great condition except for two of the rolling wheels that have fallen off. Any ideas of how I could go about reattaching these? It looks like the nuts the wheel bolt screwed in to were soldered in place. An example of one of the feet where this is still intact is included in the photos.

Is there some way/ideas on how to get them (the nuts) fitted back in place with some kind of strength that doesn't involve me buying a soldering kit?

Or for anybody who has experience with soldering kits. Is it worth it to use this as an excuse to add one of those to my tool kit? Would soldering these nuts in place even be strong enough?

Thanks all!

How do I keep this headstrap inside this hat?

I bought this sailor cap for a Halloween costume. High quality, but its a bit loose as i expected. Padding it works fine, but i figured out i can use this head strap from an old hardhat to wear it more securely.

Only issue is the hat swivels around and the strap falls out if i jostle my head too much. Is there a way to keep the strap in and fit well without using adhesives?

How to toddler proof this tap to prevent scalding during bathtime?

Thumbnail

I bathe my toddler in the laundry sink (no bathtub in this house!) but he's recently noticed the mixer tap and now it's a constant battle to stop him grabbing it and accidentally turning it all the way to scalding.

I've tried looking at 'toddler proofing' attachments but I can't seem to find anything that will still allow me to set the tap to warm. Is there a way for me to restrict how far the tap turns so that my sticky-fingered toddler can avoid burning himself?

EDIT To respond to some common questions: - water heaters in my area must be set to a minimum temperature of 60degC to prevent growth of Legionella. This is a legal requirement. - we're after a solution that will allow us to keep the tap running during shower/bathtime - I think the easiest solution is to use a couple of zip ties to limit the range of the tap for now, and then get a mixing valve installed at this outlet. - kid is never unattended in the bath. Even if I'm there the whole time, it's pretty easy for a toddler to knock the tap the wrong way without any prior warning. Often it's an accident and I flick it back like 1-2 seconds later, but that's enough time for the water to become uncomfortably hot for the little one.

Thanks for all the help!

Kitchen drawer jammed

My kitchen drawer is jammed. We have an induction cook top above it and a metal bar seems to have fallen. Not sure how this happened. We were able to open the drawer slightly and take things out but now it is barely opening. I can’t get a spatula or anything in. Apologies for the bad photos, hopefully you can understand what I mean. It seems as thought the bar (which isn’t mentioned in the manual for the cooktop) is pushing the side of the drawer out. I have taken the drawer below out (doesn’t help) and I don’t think the front of the drawer comes off.

How to hang this vintage shelf

I found this Lovely Rita shelf by Kartell (1996) at a thrift store. It did not come with hardware, and is discontinued so I cannot get a replacement hardware kit.

I found an old instruction booklet that lists what would have come in the hardware kit, but I am having trouble finding them at the hardware store. Any advice on how I can hang it up/what to buy that would work for this?

[Solved] How to remove the hinge of this mini-fridge?

Just bought this Klarstein MKS-10 mini fridge. You can change the direction at which the door opens but the instructions (picture 3) are frustratingly vague.

You can see in the first picture that the bottom hinge wasn’t anything weird, just three screws and the hinge itself. I can’t figure out the top hinge though, and I’m scared it’ll break if I pull on it too hard.

Last picture shows the other side where I supposedly could put the top hinge. Included this in case it’d help someone realize how this thing works.

Any idea how to get the top hinge off? Thanks!

UPDATE:

Thanks, everyone. I managed to get the plastic cover off and my fridge now opens the other way! Someone suggested a flat-head screwdriver but I couldn’t get one in at any angle, unfortunately. I resorted to pliers which got the edges of the plastic piece looking kinda ugly, but oh well, it worked.

Thank you!

Stripped electrical boxes in brick

I’ve got a 90s house with fiberglass electrical boxes. All of the screw holes are deteriorated and no longer holding my fixtures. How do I go about repairing these. I can’t find a product for this specific issue on a brick house. I’ve tried using a slightly larger screw and it cracked the screw holes open. They are very brittle.

DIY How to fix this embroidered patch snag

I recently had to take my cat through the TSA line and, while holding him, he got a little nervous and started using claws to climb on me and snagged one of my favorite hoodies.

I've read other "how to" snagging posts, but this is slightly different, since it's a patch that's been embroidered onto the sweater cloth.

Any insights appreciated (and obligatory cat pic included)
