Hi everyone! The mod team has noticed an uptick recently in people posting photos of their faces or other identifying information.

This is a reminder that posting photos of your face is both unsafe as well as against the rules of the subreddit. Any posts with these photos will be removed.

Reddit is a website used by many people and you can never know who is looking at your photos.

General Advice Needed/Given People who say "school failed me" are basically just trying to cope the fact they were just lazy.

Despite some people literally having access to actual good learning resources especially being in good schools, they still end up acting like "school failed them" mean while, they were skipping classes, not studying, doing their homeworks at all, and thinks that school is made for "factory workers" or some shit like that lmao. It's ridiculous.

Rant A friend took his own life, and the school might have a lot to do with it. (TW mention of suicide and self-h*rm) Spoiler

On the 27th of October, one of my friends took his own life after fighting an internal battle for far too long. He was struggling, and most people knew it. His close friends and many of us tried our best to be there for him, but clearly, it wasn't enough.

I recall having a conversation with him in which he revealed that the school had caught him self-harming. Instead of offering him help, the school's higher-ups allegedly called him entitled and selfish and lectured him about how "he didn't care about the people who had sacrificed so much for him to flourish."

The principal allegedly said, "Looking at that bandage over your wrist makes me want to rip it off and give you two slaps."

They also reportedly refused to let him enter the school premises until he submitted a letter stating that the school would not be held responsible if anything were to happen to him.

I'm so sorry if this is not appropriate for this subreddit. I just want to convey the fact that the education system is fucked, considering the fact that this is the most reputed school in my country. We're still shocked, and the pity message we received from the school this morning is infuriating us

Rant not being able to go to our-of-state college

hi guys, i’m a girl in her senior year who is hoping to leave her state to attend a prestigious/good out-of-state college because the opportunities in my state aren’t as good as those in other states, and i genuinely feel the need to be able to access those opportunities.

i’ve been really frustrated with my parents, and i constantly fight with them over this idea because this is the one exception they absolutely refuse to grant me. my dad is the main reason i’m not allowed to go, as he’s the one who gets angry and firmly refuses to let me leave the state for college. my mom tends to follow whatever he says, so even when i try to reason with her, she doesn’t really stand up for me or support my decision because she ultimately goes along with his wishes. it feels like i have no one in my family who is willing to listen to my perspective or advocate for me.

i find it hard to understand why they’re so persistent about this when i’m a high-achieving student and am confident that i can get good scholarships. when i asked whether they would let me go if i received a full ride or a substantial scholarship that covered the cost, they absolutely said no and didn’t care, so i know it’s not about finances.

i promise i’m a good kid and haven’t done anything that would make them think otherwise. everyone around me gets to go wherever they want and take advantage of those opportunities, while i’m forced to stay here. it’s incredibly frustrating to watch other people have the freedom to pursue opportunities outside their home state while i’m not even being given the same chance.

my parents and sibling are the only family i have, and none of them are willing to move with me so that i can attend college elsewhere. this is especially frustrating because my parents don’t even have stable employment here, which makes the whole situation feel even more ridiculous.

please tell me what to do. i don’t care what it takes; this is the one thing i cannot bring myself to give up on, and i will do anything to be given the chance to attend a prestigious out-of-state college. i need to build a stable future for myself, and i genuinely feel that my state doesn’t offer me as many opportunities to do that.

Rant We had a bomb threat at my school today

Post image
6 Upvotes

Fyi: nothing exploded and nobody died. At the end of 3rd period, they announced that they were going to put the whole school on hold. Usually that means to stay in the classroom until they say it's ok to leave and is usually caused by either someone on campus is having a medical emergency or a fight broke out during class and it needs to be investigated. Holds always lasts 5-10 minutes. 5 minutes later, they announced that we had to evacuate. Most people were able to grab their things and run out. We were on our phones and when we checked social media, we found out it was a bomb threat. We stayed outside for 4 hours, a fight broke out and a few kids were pulled into ambulances on stretchers (I'm assuming from heat stroke because we live in San Antonio, Tx). We all went home eventually went home and are safe.

Dating Advice Needed/Given What if it doesn’t work out?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year and a half, we’re both upperclassman in high school, but he is graduating this year. He is a wonderful person, with a wonderful and kind family, and he always tries to show me many ways he can to love me. I love spending time with him and being around him, he’s one of my closest friends too, yet there’s always a lingering feeling that I can’t shake off.A feeling of growing distance between us.What if it doesn’t work out?

My boyfriend and I are very different in many aspects. He’s quiet, introverted, and self critical, while i’m more loud, outgoing, and expressive. I thought when I was younger i would end up with someone a little more expressive than him, but I don’t regret falling in love with him. Once our first year hit, I started to become worried. I noticed instead of just a lack of expression, his consistent silence was a lack of understanding his emotions. His silence seemed to stretch on forever, beside from “I love you’s” and “How are you doing?”

I think another contributor to our discontent is the fact that he is my ride constantly everywhere. We go to school together, he drives me to my swim practice, to my work, and to my home.Every single day, for over a year, we’ve been together. I never paid much mind to it, as i enjoy his company, but it has become more clear than ever that this contributes to the thousands of words we haven’t spoken, just because we are together. A few nights ago, we decided after halloween we will go on a break for two weeks. Not a “totally broken up” break, but more of a “we need space” break. We decided if we felt like we were better off just friends after this break, we would just be friends. I want to hear about his day and his excitements, instead of being everything in his life and his day.We both took this well, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. He is a wonderful guy, with a beautiful heart and a calm, sensible mind, but our comfortability has made me believe there is not much between us anymore.

Edit: Other couples who have been trying to make it work please interact, i’d like some good news lol

Rant senior year of high school

"this is your best year of high school" they say, but no, in my opinion, this has been the worst, most depressing year of my life.

common app, ap classes, rec letters, ugh, it's stressing me out a lot, which obviously is an extremely common experience, but it's not just that. i'm not popular or part of *ANY* friend group, so this year has been incredibly lonely, and i'm fearful for life after high school. underclassmen may have summer break to look forward to, and sure, i do too. but after summer break.. is independence, moving out for college, finally being on your own. that's the part i'm not ready for. i'm TERRIFIED. i don't even want to go to college because i dont want to be apart/away from my mom, it's kind of a problem. i've always been pretty reliant on her and 18 years its been of spoiling me, so no i'm not ready to suddenly conquer everything on my own. im scared im scared im scared of the real world, 9-5, taxes, this little bubble of "school" that has been my life, my routine, my daily 8 hours, is all coming to an end in less than a year, and im scared, of all the changes that will happen, not just to myself, but people i will meet, lose, cry over, bond with, yeah, pretty foreign and far out into the future. but i know growing up is not easy and this year is proving it more day by day. i guess 2nd semester will be happier

hello to underclassmen.. please enjoy your years and study for the SAT :D

Friend Advice Needed/Given I Don't Fit In Anywhere

Hey guys,

First time posting on here

I'm currently a junior and my sophomore year I had picked up a lot of upperclassmen friends: seniors and juniors. Whom have no either graduated or are about to. Things were great and all but I kinda realized I'll have no friends in my own class once they leave and therefore none at all. All the kids in my class are split into cliques that I don't fit into nor feel the need to — "then why are you complaining" I mean simply not having friends is just a bum feeling. Basically what I'm asking is how do I go about this? I'm naturally someone who gets "adopted" into friend groups and if not in one I just isolate and stay quiet. The only problem with that is that I get super depressed from isolating myself. But maybe I need some peace and quiet my senior year? Yeah. Should I go a year without friends? Do I try to join a new group?

Dating Advice Needed/Given How bad is it for a senior to date a sophomore… as well as other problems

So to put it shortly, I’m a Senior and he’s a Sophomore, I’m in guard and he’s in band, his ex of like a month is in guard, and I don’t find him attractive pretty much at all but he literally has the absolute best personality.

Now to basically break down each of those things…. Starting with my concern with the age gap. I’ve always been a “if the grades touch” kind of person, and I feel very hypocritical for even considering this guy. The age gap is less than 3 years, so it’s legal in my state, and it’s not like he looks much younger than me (for a while I thought he was a junior). However, what are other people’s opinions on this? I might just be too convinced that it would be awkward with that gap after seeing it not work out with other people. I also wouldn’t be the only one in the guard that would have this gap, so there would be minimal judgment on that part.

His ex is also a problem with this. It didn’t end great, she cheated on him and is now dating a senior in band. I don’t even want to consider her in any of this due to how things ended, but she’s in colorguard which will become problematic since we will definitely need to interact during winter guard. It’s already known that him and I are friends, and have been since we met and they were still dating, but I’m worried an official relationship would just create a divide that can’t happen when our season starts.

The part I feel most upset over is that I am not very attracted to him. Like personality-wise, he is the BEST. He notices small things, is always willing to help, and we get along amazingly. However he’s just not my type when it comes to looks. I’m especially thrown off because past crushes I’ve had were very conventionally attractive and overall had good personalities, but obviously things didn’t work out with those people. Now there’s this sophomore who would be PERFECT if he were my type and a little older. I feel horrible over the whole thing and now I’m looking for advice on if I should pursue this or move on. I want to add on I think he might like me back? I’m horrible at reading people, but he’s always around me, we have an inside joke, and he notices even the tiniest details all the way down to this one time I mentioned a couple weeks ago being grossed out by instruments because of the spit, and from then on he started wiping off drinks anytime he would share them with me, or tell others to waterfall if it wasn’t just me drinking from it. Before that he would just pass them to me, so it was sort of a noticeable change to me lmao

Question Is working 32 hours a week reasonable?

I’m a high school senior and gonna start working at McDonald’s soon. I’ll be making minimum wage $20.00/hr.

My schedule would be:

Monday-Thursday: 4 hours
Friday-Saturday: 8 hours
Sunday: Off day

I don’t do any extracurriculars or sports so I have all the free time after school. I do take a lot of AP and college courses but the workload is easy for me to manage and I’ve never had an issue with it.

Do you guys think this is reasonable? 32 hours on paper sounds like a lot but for someone like me with no after school responsibilities, I think it’s fine.

General Advice Needed/Given I'm afraid of my GPA, need advice

I was immature and didnt care about GPA in freshmen year, I got a 3.19 unweighted and a 3.44 weighted in my classes.

I'm a sophomore now and in taking this way more seriously, getting around 3.75 in my first quarter (right now on second), but my GPA scares me so much, all I want is to go to a public in-state school and study nursing, accounting or rad tech

I want scholarships and to lower how much I pay for my university, I dont know what I need, EC, GPA and SAT wise, should I do CC first for 2 year then transfer to my in state school to save money? Im anxious about this all the time

General Advice Needed/Given I'm a student and made a free planner with themes because Canvas/Classroom don't have everything in one place

Between Canvas, Google Classroom and teachers who just say stuff in class, I could never see everything I had due in one spot. The planner apps I found were ugly or missing stuff, so I built one.

You can add assignments, exams and reminders, set up your class schedule, and keep notes. It also has animated themes like a rainy neon city and an aurora over a lake.

It's free. Would love to know what you'd change: https://planiverse.org

Rant My classmate called me a failure

I was a fairly bright student - national sports , several state medals and an average of 90%+ typically . Last term was my peak I had highest in section in several subjects, the medals and the social life , this term however, I had a rough patch trying to juggle both academics and sports while mental health issues emerged. The classmate was a person who I thought was humble and easy going , this term he got the second-highest score in our section and boasted frequently about it , it was his first time getting so much and I didn't think much of it and thought it was a celebratory moment . Soon enough he changed his social circle discarded all his friends and started hanging out with the top students he acted like a mere decorative item in their friend group , except his face would make people turn away. Later teachers told me that his interest seems to be declining as well. Once while bragging about his scores , someone asked him if he was a top student in his class? He replied "yes me, [highest name] and [my name] who is a failure". I felt disheartened as I was struggling with my self-worth as well and almost started crying . Apparently, no one talks to him especially his previous friend cycle who completely disregarded him and some are aware of his arrogant, egoistic and condescending nature. Now I have a few choices start the rumor as an act of public service and let the mask fall off or directly confront him which might be the same output as talking to a wall. What should I do?

Friend Advice Needed/Given I found out my friend might be kinda toxic

So I moved and have been going to this new high school. A couple weeks in, I met my first friend, lets call her Jayce, and we've been friends for maybe like 1-2 months now.

She seemed normal, and pretty nice from the start, and I got a very small "self centered" vibe, but I can also be like that too, so I figured it would balance out.

So anyways, recently I've noticed her acting... strangely to say the least. She's a little mean to some of her friends at times, and gets irritated easily, and is a little controlling. She hasn't been this way with me, other than getting a little irritated whenever I linger nearby her for too long. (Unserstandable)

Anyways, I was working on a project by myself at lunch, with like one other dude who was bored and was helping me, when Jayce's boyfriend sat next to me and started venting about how his girlfriend is kind of a controlling egocentric prick. Completely unprompted by the way, literally talking about his girlfriend is toxic behind her back. I didn't say much, I just told him, "Hey, you should always break off your relationships before they got toxic so you can still be friends."

Obviously I'm not trying to get with her boyfriend, that would be shitty, I guess he just saw me hanging out with her and picked me of all people to vent with her. Also probably because I'm new and don't fully know about all the drama yet.

Anyways, I want to be friends with this girl since I don't have very many, but I would like some advice on how to go about it.
