Trip Report Another motorcycle trip
Fall was really showing off, Kammock dbl, Kammock fire belly *30 UQ, REI igneo *19 bag used as a TQ, half my YOBO freedom stand and a Warbonnet SF to top it all off.
Always finding a better system to throw all my camping gear in the motorcycle. Sans cooking gear really makes a big difference for the ability to add warm layers. Ideally maybe finding a bigger trunk. Might have to actually get a touring bike someday.
Last weekend I had my yeti 35 strapped to the back seat. A little hiking and fall riding this past weekend at Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, Wi in Door County

Question Big guy
What are the options for a 6 ft 300# man? Been using a cot tent, but that’s a lot to pack in the back of my SxS.

Question Weight saving vs tent
So i mainly use a hammock most trips because i feel like i can never find flat ground and stay dryer in a hammock but ive done some thinking and my hammock setup is the same weight as my tent setup if not heavier. Do any of yall use hammocks for weight savings instead of tents or is it just a comfortability aspect? My hammock setup is approximately around 4lbs including my sleeping quilt and underquit and tarp and i feel like bringing an underquilt takes so much soace and defeats the purpose of saving weight while using a hammock but its a need.

Trip Report Last weekend in South Dakota.
Last weekend in South Dakota was a good one. Just a couple of tents, a hammock, and a quiet spot in the woods. Nothing fancy, just fresh air, a little sunshine, and some time away from everything. Hard to beat a weekend like this.

Trip Report Made it work in Linville gorge
Was down by the river in Linville gorge and there weren't a lot of good options. Believe it or not this worked. Slept pretty well.

Hammock suggestions for tall people
I'm around 300 and 6'5 and looking for a good hammock for camping and backpacking. Mostly camping so Weight isn't as much of a concern, looking around 150$ or so but if there's something that's much better for a bit more that's all right.

Trip Report Hammock camping in Tuscany
Got an invitation from a friend who is travelling around Italy with a camper and ended up hanging my hammock in quite a few different spots with very nice views, sometimes anchoring one end of my set up to the camper van.
I used the 11” onewind hammock with a tarp and UQ, it’s my first setup and so far I’ve been quite pleased although I do have a few observations and some ideas for improvement. I might make a post about that as well once I get more use out of it.

Question MYOG Modular 3-Piece Down Quilt System - Need sanity check, temp advice & design tips!
Planning my first down build. I bikepack in Portugal (warm coastal summers ~15–20°C, mountain winters ~0–5°C), am 170 cm tall, and sleep warm. Low packed volume is top priority.
I’m designing a 3-piece modular system using 800+ FP down and box baffles (no sewn-through seams):
Main Underquilt (~5°C / 40°F): Simple rectangle (165 × 105 cm) with a width-wise differential cut (outer 115 cm) and ~8 longitudinal baffles.
Modular Blanket (~5°C / 40°F): Snaps onto the main UQ (Gemini-style) for sub-zero winter trips, or works solo as a warm-weather quilt.
Winter Top Quilt (~0°C / 30°F): 185 × 135 cm, non-sewn footbox (KAM snaps + drawcord) to open flat, plus pad attachment tabs for ground sleeping.
Seeking your input on:
Temp ratings & loft: Do two ~5°C layers reliably hit ~ -5°C (20°F) when stacked? What baffle heights and fill weights (800+ FP) would you recommend for 5°C vs 0°C?
Suspension: Traditional full-length side channels vs. Clew suspension—which is better for a modular snap-on setup and bikepacking packability?
Snapping layers: Any tips on KAM snap spacing/tabs to prevent the outer blanket from compressing the inner UQ's loft?
End draft collars: Essential on a rectangular 5°C UQ, or do shock cord end cinches suffice?
Features: any nice features on your underquilt that you like (clips for the hammock or alike)
Pics & Schematics: If you've built a modular UQ, clew setup, or differential-cut rectangle, please share photos or sketches!
Thanks for any insights!

Question Camping with a hammock in the Norwegian mountains
A friend and I are planning a motorcycle trip around Norway, and at the moment, I only have my Haven XL hammock tent, which I’d love to bring along.
However, I’m a bit concerned about the lack of trees in some of Norway’s mountainous areas. I know the Haven XL can also be set up on the ground like a regular tent, but I was hoping to avoid bringing trekking poles just for that purpose.
Has anyone here done a similar motorcycle trip through Norway with a hammock tent? Did you run into any issues finding suitable places to camp, or was it less of a problem than you expected?
I’d love to be able to wake up on a mountainside with an amazing view, but I’m wondering if I should just accept that the Haven XL might not be ideal for this kind of trip and invest in a separate tent instead.
I’d appreciate any advice or experiences you can share!

Underquilt thoughts
I current use a 20° hammock gear underquilt stacked with a 40° wooki when temps drop below 30. I’m a very cold sleeper and always need more layers to stay warm. Should I stick with that set up or invest in a 0° underquilt? If I go with one underquilt, do I get a hammock gear or a wooki? I live in the northeast and love winter camping but my pack seems to be filled with more down than anything else. I’m out of space in my pack.

Question Quilts for hammock with spreader bars? For sub zero and general winter camping.
I am planning to use my hammock to sleep on my screen porch to try to improve my sleep and work up to winter camping. I use it for camping but have yet to do any winter camping. It can get to -20 F or lower sometimes. Though I don't have to sleep outside if temperatures is dropping so low as that, I do want to use this gear for camping too.
While looking for quilts, I am struggling to find any for a hammock with spreader bars. I have an off brand hammock with a attached bug screen and removable rain fly plus spreader bars. I find it better for my back than to have a dip in the hammock, but I do also have just regular nylon hammocks without spreader bars.
So what quilts do you use for sub zero weather with a spreader bar hammock?
Especially ones with a lower price point. Though if it really is worth it I may be able to manage up to $250 (I'm low income atm). I do also have a sleeping bag rated to 20F and one rated to 32F and have camped in fall when it can be down to 28F at night. Usually I take a felted wool coat/tunic with me and a thin wool military blanket.
EDIT: checked the brand and I have this hammock. I feel a bit silly not looking for their website before because it turns out they sell an under quilt. Though it doesn't specify temperature ratings. I bought my hammock on sale online from Amazon and didn't know there also was this site. Anyhow, I very much am appreciative of the replies and help.

EDIT 2: sorry for not knowing the correct terms. I am autistic and have a hard time to learn the terms for things and struggle a bit with using the internet. Thank you for your help!!

Question Hanging my UQ properly
I have the Hangtight Heat Seeker underquilt and a Hemlock Mountain Outdoors Redtail hammock.
I can't figure out the best way to hang the underquilt properly on the hammock. I always have a big gap on the side opposite my legs. I lay on a diagonal when in the hammock. I tried some sbiners on the loops of the hammock and the secondary elastic cords of the UQ but still have a big gap.
Any recommendations?

Question Under quilt alternatives?
Going on a trip next weekend expect it to get to around 30-40 at night. Have a 0 degree bag. What substitutes could I make instead of buying a under quilt

Gear Sleeping bag recommendations
New to hammock camping! I’m doing it as moto camping. So size/weight are very important. I’m not riding a bike designed for it at all. It’s an MT-10 sports bike that I have a top case and saddle bag for.
I am looking for a sleeping bag that is as compact as possible. I’m not worried about weight as the bike will support it but size/volume is at a premium. With this, I’m hoping you put together that the underquilt? Isn’t an option. All of that said, I’m 5’10” 200lbs and looking for a sleeping bag that will be good for the 40-60f range. I’m willing to pay a premium to find something that fits well in this category.
Thank you in advance for your time!

First time hammock camping
Been watching a tonne of hammock camping videos on YouTube the last few weeks got hooked on set ups and knots and just loved the idea of it all, so bought the cheapest gear off e-bay and now at 9am after a 5°c calm Scottish night I'm now hooked. Just lying here right now in a forest rain lightly hitting the tarp I don't ever want to move lol

170cm Hammock Fabric Available
For the DIYers, Extremtextil currently have some 170cm wide 53g hammock fabric.
A lot of fabrics are produced to a standard 150cm width but the most comfortable hammock I've ever had was made with 160cm (and 11ft/330cm long). The extra width really seemed to make a difference so will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I’ve got a superior hammock starlight and when I’m laying in the hammock with the bugnet shut… the bugnet is so tight it pulls down on the Ridge line and it looks like the bugnet is going to tear… anyone else having trouble with theirs or am I the only one doing something wrong?

Question about differential planning
I’m curious if anybody knows how to calculate the differential difference between an inner and outer shell using cat splats calculator? It definitely shows that the outer shell needs to be wider than the inner shell but it does not calculate spacing.
Maybe I’m looking at this wrong, but if I use nine baffles according to the calculator that puts the spacing on the inner shell at about 5 7/8 inches in between baffles on the inner shell. The spacing looks almost too big as everything I can read. Seems to indicate you want your spacing somewhere between four and 5 inches ideally. It also looks like I want to achieve around an inch difference in between the height of the baffle and the top of the outer shell to achieve the correct calculated lofting of about 3-3.25”.
Thanks in advance
