🍃 Hair Loss 🍃 23M and noticing a lot of white hair. Is this normal at my age?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’m 23M, and I’ve been dealing with a few hair-related issues lately that are starting to concern me.
I’ve noticed a significant amount of white/grey hair on my head, and it’s becoming increasingly noticeable. Along with that, my hair is quite frizzy, rough and difficult to manage, and I’ve also been experiencing hair fall.
I’ve attached a picture of my hair for reference.
I’m trying to understand what could be causing all three issues and whether they might be related.
A few things I’d like advice on:
Premature greying: Is this amount of white hair normal at 23? Can genetics be the only reason, or can nutritional deficiencies and other factors contribute?
Frizzy and rough hair: What causes hair to become so frizzy, dry and difficult to manage? Are there any products or routines that genuinely help?
Hair fall: How can I distinguish normal hair shedding from excessive hair fall? Could nutritional deficiencies, stress or scalp issues be contributing?
Blood tests: Are there any tests worth getting done to check for potential deficiencies or underlying issues?
Treatment and routine: Has anyone experienced all three problems in their early 20s and found a routine or treatment that actually helped?
I’m not looking for miracle products or expensive treatments that promise to reverse greying. I’d appreciate practical advice, recommendations based on personal experience, and suggestions on what I should investigate first.
If you’ve dealt with something similar, I’d love to hear what worked for you.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 What actually works for controlling frizz without making your hair greasy?

• Upvotes

I’ve never really had a problem with frizz until recently, and now I feel like I’m constantly trying to find the right amount of product. Too little does nothing, but if I use too much, my hair starts looking flat and oily. I’ve been using the Frizz Dismiss range and applying a really small amount, mainly through the mid lengths and ends. That seems to work better for me than layering different products. I’m curious what everyone else does, do you use a cream, serum, oil, or just change the way you wash and dry your hair to keep the frizz down?

😩 Damaged Hair 😩 blonde girlies is fanola no yellow actually worth it??

• Upvotes

i keep seeing people recommend fanola no yellow for blonde hair but then half the reviews say it makes your hair SO dry??

i'm trying to keep my blonde from going yellow between salon appointments without spending a ridiculous amount on hair products lol. i've also been looking at the amika bust your brass mask but idk if it's actually worth the extra money.

has anyone tried both?? and do purple masks actually work as well as shampoos or are they just less drying? i just want my blonde to stay pretty without making my ends feel like straw

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ How do I get volume back after shampooing my hair?

My hair is naturally pretty dry, but when it's dry it usually has a lot of volume. The downside is that it can sometimes become almost broom-like. If I use oil, I get the shine I like, but my hair becomes too heavy and loses its volume.

I sometimes use a leave-in **conditioner**, which works pretty well on normal days and gives it some shine and makes it look less dry. But after I shampoo my hair, it doesn't seem to work the same way. My hair becomes flat and loses the volume and texture I like, and it stays that way for several days.

My best hair days are usually when I haven't taken a bath for around three days. At that point, my hair naturally has a really good combination of **volume, shine, texture and shape**.

I do need to shampoo because my scalp eventually gets oily/itchy, so I can't just leave it like that.

So what should I change in my routine to **get that volume back after shampooing**? Should I try a volumizing shampoo, a different type of conditioner, a different leave-in, or some kind of styling product?

I'm mainly looking for a way to get **volume + shine + texture after shampooing** without making my hair heavy.

Straight fine medium-density hair. Did overnight styling on slightly dump hair and I don’t want to brush it out because my hair will immediately lose the waves. What product should I apply to make it look more put together and less frizzy?

Thanks!

🔎 Product Question 🔎 What bond repair treatment to buy

Hello everyone, I recently dyed my hair red with a no bleach colour at the salon and have been noticing my hair increase in split ends day by day. I am confused as to what bond repair treatment to buy.

I initially opted to buy the K18 but I would say my hair hasn’t reached the state of severe damage for k18 to have any noticeable difference that too for the said price point.

What bond repair product should I get? Opt for the k18 right now or use olaplex or redken? Please let me know !

🔎 Product Question 🔎 How much K18 mask should I use?

I normally use 4 pumps total because I have a lot of hair (2 pumps for each half of hair). But last week I was in a super dry climate and also needed to wash almost every day due to vacation activities and my hair was so straw like, it was awful. Since I was traveling I took a GWP of the K18 leave-in molecular repair hair mask and used the complete 5ml, which felt like more than I usually put on and my hair afterwards felt incredible. I actually felt and saw the difference it made to my hair. So I’m wondering if I should always use that much product.

People with long and a lot of hair, how many pumps of K18 do you use?

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Is this frizz or hair breakage or split ends?

I use conditioner everytime I wash my hair, and then I'd apply some hair milk / leave in conditioner (it has heat protection) after towel drying, blowdry the roots of my hair, apply hair oil to ends, blowdry again til fully dried, and despite this routine, i'm still seeing these flyaways... i'd appreciate any advice, thank you! 🥹🙏🏻 (also, i coloured my hair jet black like a year ago, but the colour has washed off, and i bleached my hair & got it permed but that was so long ago like 10 years ago)

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Frizzy hair - shampoo & conditioner recommendations needed!

I naturally have very curly hair but rarely allow it to dry curly, instead blow drying it smooth and then using overnight curlers (aware of how counterproductive that seems). I find my curls tend to be frizzy and fluffy and as a mum of two young children under 3, I don’t have the time for maintenance it would take to tame my natural curls.

However as we dive in to autumn, I’m bracing myself for the inevitable frizz that’s coming and wondering if there’s a way to prevent this. I long for the shiny smoothness that comes to my friends with straighter hair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shampoo/conditioner/frizz control that might actually work?

I can get away with washing my hair once a week so can afford to go pricier with products if needed.

UK based.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 My hair is cotton candy - looking for advice

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m looking for advice on improving my hair texture and preventing further hair loss.

Since around June/July 2025, my hair has had this cotton candy texture. It’s gotten progressively worse, and over the past few months, its started to really affect my mental health. My strands feel wispy and lightweight instead of having substance and definition, and my hair doesn’t seem to be gaining much length anymore.

For context, I’ve had blonde hair and gotten two perms this year, so I know chemical processing could be contributing.

My current routine is:
• Tresemmé sulfate free color care shampoo and conditioner (looking to change this as my blonde highlights are just about out)
• Shampoo about twice a week
• Condition 2 to 3 times a week
• Hair masks 2 to 3 times a week(Trader Joe’s brand)

(I do towel dry but not all the way, and I do not use blow dryers)

For context, When I had my perms, I also used Not Your Mother’s and Aussie products, but I don’t currently use them.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is primarily damage and breakage from chemical processing.

I’d love recommendations for:
• Shampoos and conditioners that help hair regain softness and substance
• Leave in conditioners, masks, oils, or bond repair treatments that are actually worth it
What has genuinely worked for you, and what products weren’t worth the money? I’m hoping to improve my hair’s texture, preserve as much density as possible, and get my hair feeling like actual strands again. Thanks!

🔎 Product Question 🔎 How to fix hair after protein overload?

I have very fine, wavy, damaged hair.

I made the mistake of using a protein hair mask as my regular conditioner for about a year (please don't do this).

My hair initially looked great and my waves were defined and frizz free, but over time my hair became very dry, stringy, dull, and started shedding. I realized I probably protein overloaded my hair.

I stopped protein products about 2 months ago and while my hair stopped shedding, it's still extremely frizzy, dry, and lifeless. I've recently gotten a haircut to help but it's still so frizzy. I put hair oil in, I've tried so many, but it stays dry and weighed down.

Has anyone had this experience and has any recommendations on how to fix it? Any products? Thank you in advance

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Knots in my Fine, Thin Hair

I’m hoping someone else can give some advice on my insanely knot-prone hair.
For reference, I’m Eastern European decent and I have long, fine, thin (and thinning) hair in the dark ash blonde color that was referred to as “dishwater blonde “ in the 80’s when I was growing up.
There are some very old highlights but they’re from several years ago, and I get regular trims so honestly, they’re mostly gone.
I know absolutely no one with hair that knots as badly as mine. And it’s been this way even when I was young, so this was before I was coloring or styling my hair. I have to wear my hair in a bun at all times because if my hair is out for even an hour, I get knots so bad, I sometimes have to cut them out (and yes, I’m inside sitting at a desk).
I pamper my hair ridiculously. I have expensive silk pillow cases. I don’t own a curling iron or use any styling tools other than a blow dryer twice a week to dry my hair when it’s about 80% dry. I have tried every shampoo and conditioner under the sun, I swear. I gently massage the shampoo on my scalp and saturate the lengths thoroughly with conditioner. It takes me forever to get the knots out before I shower, then even longer to get the knots out after I’ve showered, and then AGAIN after I’ve dried it. To dry it, I only use the air flow to flow down the lengths. I’m not tossing my head all over the place or yanking on it with a brush. It only takes a few minutes to dry, but when I’m done, the lengths are so tangled, it’s as if the ends are glued together. I think I own about 20 different detangling products. I’ve tried mixing and matching them. We have hard water but we also have an expensive filtration system.
I’m getting to the point where I don’t see the point of having long hair. What’s the point if you can literally never wear it down. What’s the point when I spend such an extraordinary amount of time and money trying to detangle it.
Does anyone else have hair like this? Are there any tips or products you’ve used that helped??

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Breakage or frizz or new growth?

Are these shorter hairs breakage? It’s making me so insecure :( i only notice it when i straighten my wavy hair, otherwise it just looks like blended in/frizz. They’re shorter than the rest of my hair and stick out so much even when i put hairspray, or oil, or frizz cream.
i barely ever straighten my hair or use heat and i don’t really brush my hair either
