🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 What can I do about gray hair coming in curly/coarse on top of smooth hair?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Current photo is after using deep conditioning mask, color wow dream coat, and blow drying with a Dyson.

Don’t mind the color so much as the texture is preventing hair from looking shiny/smooth.

Considering a keratin or cezanne treatment because I’m at a loss for what other products would help. Thank you!!

🔎 Product Question 🔎 How to fix hair after protein overload?

I have very fine, wavy, damaged hair.

I made the mistake of using a protein hair mask as my regular conditioner for about a year (please don't do this).

My hair initially looked great and my waves were defined and frizz free, but over time my hair became very dry, stringy, dull, and started shedding. I realized I probably protein overloaded my hair.

I stopped protein products about 2 months ago and while my hair stopped shedding, it's still extremely frizzy, dry, and lifeless. I've recently gotten a haircut to help but it's still so frizzy. I put hair oil in, I've tried so many, but it stays dry and weighed down.

Has anyone had this experience and has any recommendations on how to fix it? Any products? Thank you in advance

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 How to get pin straight hair?

I’m asian and I have thick, straight hair, but my hair is not PIN STRAIGHT and I want it to be pin straight.

I blow dry my hair til 100% dry but I still wake up in the morning with dents in my hair (if that makes sense). It’s as if I slept with wet hair and brushing my hair out does not help.

I also have curtain bangs but they naturally shape my face (if that makes sense) and I hate it because it accentuates my round face. Yes, I’m in the process of growing it. I want my bangs to be straight!

Please don’t say straighten it everyday because that’s very tiring and I feel like that will damage my hair a lot. I need some permanent solutions. Anyone??

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ How do I get volume back after shampooing my hair?

My hair is naturally pretty dry, but when it's dry it usually has a lot of volume. The downside is that it can sometimes become almost broom-like. If I use oil, I get the shine I like, but my hair becomes too heavy and loses its volume.

I sometimes use a leave-in **conditioner**, which works pretty well on normal days and gives it some shine and makes it look less dry. But after I shampoo my hair, it doesn't seem to work the same way. My hair becomes flat and loses the volume and texture I like, and it stays that way for several days.

My best hair days are usually when I haven't taken a bath for around three days. At that point, my hair naturally has a really good combination of **volume, shine, texture and shape**.

I do need to shampoo because my scalp eventually gets oily/itchy, so I can't just leave it like that.

So what should I change in my routine to **get that volume back after shampooing**? Should I try a volumizing shampoo, a different type of conditioner, a different leave-in, or some kind of styling product?

I'm mainly looking for a way to get **volume + shine + texture after shampooing** without making my hair heavy.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Knots in my Fine, Thin Hair

I’m hoping someone else can give some advice on my insanely knot-prone hair.
For reference, I’m Eastern European decent and I have long, fine, thin (and thinning) hair in the dark ash blonde color that was referred to as “dishwater blonde “ in the 80’s when I was growing up.
There are some very old highlights but they’re from several years ago, and I get regular trims so honestly, they’re mostly gone.
I know absolutely no one with hair that knots as badly as mine. And it’s been this way even when I was young, so this was before I was coloring or styling my hair. I have to wear my hair in a bun at all times because if my hair is out for even an hour, I get knots so bad, I sometimes have to cut them out (and yes, I’m inside sitting at a desk).
I pamper my hair ridiculously. I have expensive silk pillow cases. I don’t own a curling iron or use any styling tools other than a blow dryer twice a week to dry my hair when it’s about 80% dry. I have tried every shampoo and conditioner under the sun, I swear. I gently massage the shampoo on my scalp and saturate the lengths thoroughly with conditioner. It takes me forever to get the knots out before I shower, then even longer to get the knots out after I’ve showered, and then AGAIN after I’ve dried it. To dry it, I only use the air flow to flow down the lengths. I’m not tossing my head all over the place or yanking on it with a brush. It only takes a few minutes to dry, but when I’m done, the lengths are so tangled, it’s as if the ends are glued together. I think I own about 20 different detangling products. I’ve tried mixing and matching them. We have hard water but we also have an expensive filtration system.
I’m getting to the point where I don’t see the point of having long hair. What’s the point if you can literally never wear it down. What’s the point when I spend such an extraordinary amount of time and money trying to detangle it.
Does anyone else have hair like this? Are there any tips or products you’ve used that helped??

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 What should you realistically expect from a scalp serum?

I’ve been trying to understand what scalp serums can actually do for your hair. There are so many products claiming to help with hair growth, reduce shedding, or improve scalp health, but it’s hard to tell what results are realistic.

For those who’ve used scalp serums consistently, what changes did you notice, if any? How long did it take to see a difference, and were there any downsides, like irritation or a greasy scalp?

I’m particularly curious about the difference between products that support scalp health and those that claim to help with hair density. Personal experiences and evidence-based insights would be really helpful..

❄️ Dandruff/Scalp Advice ❄️ Seeking scalp help for my son

Hello everyone I am seeking some advice to help my son with his scalp issues.
He has dandruff pretty badly and some areas are red and irritated and some just look dry.
His hair was medium short length. Very thick and straight and a lot of it.
We recently just cut it and now are trying to style it but don’t want to use products that will make things worse either.
Awhile ago We switched to vanicream and cetaphil shampoo with occasional use of prescription shampoo and the ordinary serum (as we were told that won’t feed fungus if that was the issue).
However he would often not dry his hair all the way when out of the shower so it would be pretty soaked for long periods which I feel like exasperated the problem. We have gotten him to start towel drying it more now.
Any suggestions on what we could be doing to help him?
He is 12 and going through puberty so he showers daily.
Thank you

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 Help for thin, fried hair

Post image
3 Upvotes

Trying to get my hair healthier. Unfortunately, I straighten it often and just don’t think it’s feasible for me to cut that out of my life at the moment. I use heat protectant, oil once a week, and wash 2-3x a week. I’ve also been using the ordinary scalp serum to see if that works. Just looking to hopefully heal some of my breakage and make my hair look healthier. Know there’s only so much I can do while still heat styling but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (:

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Seeking advice on what to do with frizzy hair

• Upvotes

So I’ve been having the same issue with my hair my entire life, it’s really frizzy, especially around the top of my head, and it always gets this way unless I straighten it. When it’s wet it’s wavy, and then it dries frizzy and straight, with some wavy or curly bits in the hair section closest to the neck/head. I’m stargazing to get really tired of not knowing how to care for it. Brushing my hair makes it a lot worse.

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ Frizzy hair - shampoo & conditioner recommendations needed!

I naturally have very curly hair but rarely allow it to dry curly, instead blow drying it smooth and then using overnight curlers (aware of how counterproductive that seems). I find my curls tend to be frizzy and fluffy and as a mum of two young children under 3, I don’t have the time for maintenance it would take to tame my natural curls.

However as we dive in to autumn, I’m bracing myself for the inevitable frizz that’s coming and wondering if there’s a way to prevent this. I long for the shiny smoothness that comes to my friends with straighter hair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shampoo/conditioner/frizz control that might actually work?

I can get away with washing my hair once a week so can afford to go pricier with products if needed.

UK based.

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 My hair is cotton candy - looking for advice

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m looking for advice on improving my hair texture and preventing further hair loss.

Since around June/July 2025, my hair has had this cotton candy texture. It’s gotten progressively worse, and over the past few months, its started to really affect my mental health. My strands feel wispy and lightweight instead of having substance and definition, and my hair doesn’t seem to be gaining much length anymore.

For context, I’ve had blonde hair and gotten two perms this year, so I know chemical processing could be contributing.

My current routine is:
• Tresemmé sulfate free color care shampoo and conditioner (looking to change this as my blonde highlights are just about out)
• Shampoo about twice a week
• Condition 2 to 3 times a week
• Hair masks 2 to 3 times a week(Trader Joe’s brand)

(I do towel dry but not all the way, and I do not use blow dryers)

For context, When I had my perms, I also used Not Your Mother’s and Aussie products, but I don’t currently use them.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is primarily damage and breakage from chemical processing.

I’d love recommendations for:
• Shampoos and conditioners that help hair regain softness and substance
• Leave in conditioners, masks, oils, or bond repair treatments that are actually worth it
What has genuinely worked for you, and what products weren’t worth the money? I’m hoping to improve my hair’s texture, preserve as much density as possible, and get my hair feeling like actual strands again. Thanks!

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Query about sulfate free shampoos

apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.

basically I bleached my hair around 5 months ago and I love it, I have fairly long, thick and extremely straight hair. the salon lady said at the time that i should use sulfate free shampoos from now on, I can't remember why though. I was using a Tofu shampoo from Lush that was sulfate free but they've recently stopped doing it and when I asked in store they said that they no longer do sulfate free shampoos. I quite like lush but I'm happy to shop elsewhere if I need to.

anyway I need a hair expert to tell me - should I be using sulfate free shampoos? I worry about it quite a lot as if using anything with sulfates in them will cause my hair to set fire. I don't even know what sulfates are 😭😭 someone please help I am not very intelligent :(

also please could somebody recommend me good shampoo :) I have lots of nice conditioner already

🔎 Product Question 🔎 looking for alternative to discontinued product

my hair is thick and wavy, so when it dries out it gets incredibly frizzy, but any sort of oil weighs it down.
I have used and loved the Inkey List Hylaronic Hair Serum, which was basically just Hyalronic acid I think, but this product has been discontinued.

Does anyone know of a hydrating anti frizz serum/spray, that I can use without styling on dry hair in the mornings to reduce frizz- that does not contain any oil?

Thank you!!

🛢️ Oily/Greasy Hair 🛢️ Oily hair problems - mum seeking advice

Hi ladies. Need some advice. My scalp gets very scratchy and hair becomes very oily every other day. I have tried all the expensive shampoos conditioners and blow drying it. I would like to not wash my hair so often because it takes time to wash and dry.. and I am a busy working mom!! I’ve also used dry shampoo to extend the life but it really adds half a day. Advice appreciated. How do girlies get away with washing hair once a week?!

🚩 Advice Needed 🚩 product recommendations for color-treated, stiff hair?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

i decided to write EVERYTHING about my hair here before asking for any recommendations! ☺️

so, i dyed it a few times with cheap black henna that probably contained PPD and other metallic salts, i dyed it once with the Wellaton black hair dye and that all happened two years ago (when my hair was a lot shorter.)

the last two times i dyed it was in feb of 2026 (cheap henna) and august of 2026 (pure henna powder + indigo powder and nothing else). im planning on dying it dark brown this winter (if my hair passes rhe strand test), and dark ashy brown is my natural hair color so it'd be me going back to my natural hair. its abt 28-30 inches long and 3 inches thick around the top, when gathered into a ponytail.

the ends stand up straight when held (for some reason) and they feel stiff. moreover, my whole hair always feels stiff. i rarely ever use a straightener and i blow dry it with heat protection. also its been shedding a lot for the past 3 months, though its slowly starting to shed less. id still like to speed up the growth process and make my hair thicker.

it takes maybe 3 hrs to air dry but idk! i suspect its low porosity because a strand didnt sink down in a glass full of water. its quite wavy, almost curly, but i prefer keeping it straight. it gets greasy every 3-4 days (scalp), though the whole length very greasy if i use heavier products such as the balea long hair elixir (pink tiny bottle).

i want it to be very shiny, veery soft, silky, with lots of princess-like movement. i want it to be voluminous at the roots but straight overall. let me know if u need any more information regarding my hair for proper recommendations. 🤍

the only drugstore in my vicinity is dm (drogerie-markt) ✨🤍

⚡️ Frizzy Hair ⚡️ How to get rid of frizz in 2b wavy hair

Post image
2 Upvotes

(English is my second language, so forgive me for any mistakes)

This is my hair after washing and finalizing with plopping and scrunching the hair with no product.

I find that using products after washing takes away movement in the hair, so I didn't use any.

I tried plopping today to try to have less frizz, but it didn't work.

My hair is wavy at the bottom, but straight on top.

I like my hair on the bottom, but it just has soooo much frizz on top.

Do you 2b girlies have any advice for this?

🔎 Product Question 🔎 Is salon clarifying shampoo safe for curly hair ?

If we have curly hair and want a good clarifying wash, is it safe to use salon clarifying shampoos like the ones they use before doing keratin treatment, permanent straightening etc ? Or is it better to use a drugstore clarifying shampoo from a curly brand, Iike As I Am or Shea moisture ?

Because I’m currently struggling with a hard build up barrier / protein overload my hair is inflexible, stiff, straw-like and doesn’t absorb any products + it takes so much longer to dry so I really need to remove all this build up out.

I used apple cider vinegar three times and it seems to have worked a bit but I’ve read that the acidic rinse only removes hard water build up and not actual product build up.
