so recently it was me and my gf’s birthday week/weekend (they’re two days apart) we just turned 22 and 23. she has celiac, it’s kind of hard to find a nice, sit down restaurant with a REAL gluten-free/friendly menu.
we went to Outback Steakhouse which has actually been really good to us. real menu, they take it very seriously, they’re very upfront about cross-contamination. overall, just something you’d want. also i don’t want my gf to feel alienated everytime we go out to eat simply because she can’t have gluten.
cut to the night. our waitress is hands down, the BEST server i have ever had, and took my gfs celiac very seriously because guess what, her husband is gluten free! even better. she made our night 1000x better and genuinely went above and beyond. i love good service, and even more, i like making people feel like their hard work is valued. i gave her a 50 dollar tip. (original bill was around 100). because this waitress was genuinely amazing, and was able to give us an enjoyable, normal-feeling experience.
now as i’m telling my mother about this about 30 minutes ago, she gasps.
and cursed me out. for tipping a lovely person very well for their hard fucking work. i’ve got my own income by the way. i pay for all my shit.
but no, i’m a ‘fucking dumbass’ because you know, someone who went above and beyond doesn’t deserve appreciation in her eyes.
i already knew my mom could be and is, a piece of shit. but this is just icing on the cake.
be good to people. let them know they’re valued.
edit: if you want to see some real tomfoolery please check out u / harmondrabbits comment. because apparently i work for outback by promoting a positive experience? i guess? idk man we’re watching mental illness here.
edit 2: no i don’t work at Outback. i’m actually getting ready for my very boring logistics job as i type this.
