Ballot measures

  • Amendment 1: Conservation use property acreage. Raises the most land one owner can enroll in Georgia's lower 'conservation use' property tax rate for farm and timber land, from 2,000 acres to 4,000 acres. Yes means owners could get the lower farm/timber tax rate on up to 4,000 acres. No means the limit stays at 2,000 acres.
  • Amendment 2: Nonpartisan probate judge elections. Requires all probate court judges to be elected in nonpartisan elections (no party label on the ballot). Yes means all probate judges would run without party labels. No means some counties could keep partisan probate judge elections.
  • Amendment 3: Georgia Next Generation 9-1-1 Fund. Lets the legislature set aside certain existing revenues in a dedicated fund that can be used only to expand, maintain and run 9-1-1 emergency systems. Yes means A dedicated, protected fund for 9-1-1 systems can be created. No means no dedicated 9-1-1 fund in the constitution; money stays subject to regular budget rules.

Question DFCS Gateway Portal issues

I was trying to do my SNAP renewal this morning (I never got a text or email or paper mail to notify me to check gateway notifications, so I made sure that box got checked today), and after finishing the application, they gave me a tracking number. However, the website portal currently doesn't show anywhere to view recent applications. When you call the number, they have a recording saying "we are currently having issues with gateway and are trying to resolve the matter". So, they won't connect you to a caseworker because of this. Pretty much I have no idea how to check my application status or what to do next in regards to trying to get in touch with anybody that could help me get back in the system. Anybody else having SNAP issues using Gateway?

Question Marijuana card question

• Upvotes

I had my appointment and got approved for the card. Then I got an email that appears to be from either McDonalds or from the state. Those that have gotten the card, does the Ga dept of public health really send an email titled MCdocuments?

I’m not sure if it’s a real email and I don’t want to click the link in case it’s a phishing scheme. It seems odd the state would name it something that seems like it’s from McD’s. I suppose it could stand for marijuana card, which makes sense to me aside from the obvious McDonalds correlation.

This is a commission that was done for a client who owns the old Indian cabin shown. It served as the Ferry House on the Chattahoochee River near Flowery Branch starting in the 1820's. This area is now under Lake Lanier when it was dammed in the 1950's.

Question Anyone else find buying a used car privately in Georgia kind of sketchy?

Been looking for a cheap used car around Georgia and found a few decent listings on Facebook Marketplace. Problem is half the sellers immediately want me to text them instead of talking through Messenger. One guy even wanted my number and full name before he'd agree to let me see the car lol. I'm not against buying from private sellers but giving random strangers my personal info before I've even seen the car feels a little weird. For people who've bought cars privately around here, do you just keep everything on Marketplace until you meet or is moving to text pretty normal?

Question Neighbor excessively burning near my property in Walton County, GA. What are my options?

I have a neighbor who regularly has massive fires that burn all day long, with the burn piles approximately 5 feet from my shed and right next to the woods behind my house. From what I understand, this violates Georgia’s outdoor burning safety rules requiring fires to be at least 50 feet from structures and 25 feet from woodlands.
The neighbor had several trees cut down and is now cutting them up themselves. Because they’re processing the trees on-site, the wood is apparently being treated as hand-piled yard debris, even though some of these logs are nearly 2 feet in diameter. I believe the large logs are contributing to the excessive smoke because they burn for so long.
The smoke and smell are becoming unbearable. It covers my yard and drifts into my home. I’ve tried talking to the neighbor, but that hasn’t gotten me anywhere. I was going to wait for him to just finish but it seems more and more tees are coming down. I am on day 20 or so of this.
I live in Walton County, Georgia, and I’ve contacted the Fire Marshal, the fire department, and the Georgia Forestry Commission. Unfortunately, each agency has told me they don’t have the authority to enforce these rules and keeps directing me to another agency.
At this point, I’m not sure where else to turn. I understand that people can burn yard debris on their own property, but surely there are limits when it comes to fire safety and smoke constantly affecting neighboring properties.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation in Georgia, particularly in Walton County? Who actually has the authority to enforce these rules, and what options do I have to get this addressed?
