I live in Gwinnett County, roughly 25–30 minutes from Downtown Atlanta, although traffic can easily turn that into a 40–45 minute drive.
Lately, I’ve been wanting to spend more of my free time in the city rather than sticking to the usual places around Gwinnett. I’m naturally drawn to urban environments, walkability, public transit, and just the general atmosphere of being surrounded by people and activity.
There’s nothing necessarily wrong with Gwinnett, but I feel like I’m missing out on a different kind of lifestyle by spending most of my time in the suburbs.
For those of you who live in Gwinnett or the surrounding suburbs but regularly head into Downtown, Midtown, or other Atlanta neighborhoods for leisure, what makes the trip worthwhile?
I’m especially curious about things you enjoy doing in the city that you can’t really experience in Gwinnett. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve spending money, going to bars, or attending events. Even just walking around, exploring neighborhoods, or enjoying the atmosphere counts.
I’m basically looking for reasons to make the city a more regular part of my life rather than somewhere I only visit for special occasions.
