Play Design Seahawks Use 12 Personnel to Go Empty and Create Matchups/Space

Love seeing teams go 12 (or 21, whatever heavier packages they have), and then force a zone defense to slide to the unlikely receivers while freeing up their guys, in this case, Cooper Kupp and JSN

Coaching Advice Attacking a 4-4 defense?

7th and 8th grade football coach here. We play a team this week that runs a 4-4 defense. What are some of the best concepts to beat this?

For context, we are a relatively small team on the line and have 3 above average speed skill players. We try to get to the outside when possible to let our athletes run in space. Primary formations are single wing with 3 WR’s, tight trips bunch and a traditional spread

Hi Coaches,

I'm breaking down North Texas's offense. They're currently ranked #2 in the US only behind AP #1 Miami. They're offense is simple but explosive, it's worth checking out. Enjoy the video.

Defense Texans Defense Fall Off

What has caused it? Please elaborate as much as possible and explain the why as well. If you’re going to say “they didn’t adjust” or “it’s a simple defense that teams know the zone holes for” explain why this has caused their demise as opposed to the 2010s LOB where everyone knew the holes in the zone and still couldn’t do anything about it.

Love seeing an offensive lineman know the back's read and make the cut obvious - a well coached OL makes the RB's read for him

General Discussion Why doesn't every team prioritize the tight end position?

it seems like a lot of the best teams historically have really high-quality TE play, but they never get prioritized in the draft. Why?

Coaching Advice Play Call Structure

Post image
5 Upvotes

For the youth football coaches, are you breaking down your play calls by category or are you just coming up with a random name for the kids to memorize. This seems simple to me and feels like teaching it this way develops for the next level. Also Im coaching 10U 5th graders

What are some core route concepts that are staples to you? Things like Mesh, and Triangle concepts. Any other core concepts like this that you think every offense should have?

Youth Football Youth Football 10u: Finding the Ball

Linebackers are having an issue finding the football at the 9u and 10u level. What strategies do you use to help players at this edge find the ball before its right up on them. Specifically the linebackers but DEs too. Some kids seem to get it but Im trying to figure how to teach the others. How do y'all do it.

Special Teams Hash mark field goal.

Why is the spot of the ball relative to the hash marks important for field goals? Why not snap to the preferred spot between the hashes with protection for that area? This would use an imbalanced snap formation.

General Discussion Officiating and Coaching

Just a quick question, Currently a private school teacher/football coach. Been thinking about earning extra cash officiating basketball.

Has anyone done this as well? Have yall run into any problems regarding eligibility or legality. Does TAPPS OR UIL have rules against reffing certain games with certain teams?

PROMO POST Built a situational play-calling and coverage-read simulator using historical defenses (free browser game)[PROMO]

I’ve been building a browser-based football game called Beat the Best that focuses entirely on situational play-calling and pre-snap coverage reads against elite defenses from every decade since the 1980s.

How it works:

Draft an era-specific offense.

Execute in a high-stakes two-minute drill.

Read pre-snap coverages and call every play against a "final boss" defense from that era.

No sign-ups or paywalls—just a quick test of scheme recognition. You can try it out here:

Curious how you guys fare reading these coverages under a two-minute clock—let me know what you think!

Resource Request Football Google Drive

I apologize if this isn’t the appropriate forum for this but is anyone here part of the Honest NFL drive that cost 30? Ive only ever seen glowing comments but don’t have anyone I know to ask if it worth it. The Chiefs playbooks and Jesse Minter stuff alone will likely lead to me doing it anyway, but would greatly appreciate any feedback either way. Thanks!

Defense Defense callsheets

I'm new to this sport, and only a every week NFL watcher. The offense it's easy to understand how it operates, but the defense not so much. How the DC makes the play calling? What matters in that moment? And also, can someone explain better how the defense play sheets works? There's any from the NFL available?

Special Teams I'm a specialist learning how to tackle. What did Blake Grupe do wrong last week hurting himself trying to tackle?

I don't really know what I'm doing and seeing Grupe is exactly what I'm scared of happening to me. I want to say he was running too fast and using his shoulder was the wrong choice. I also know him trying to hit someone twice his size was the wrong decision to lol.

I don't know much about tackling but I want to say he actually should've slowed down and tried to wrap up. I've also been told by kicking coaches to just be a body that gets in the way, , focus on stopping their momentum, have someone else make the tackle , and don't hurt yourself.

They told me don't try to be the hero, you'll hurt yourself, we need your leg, and as long as I made the ball carrier think then I did my job.

Coaching Advice How to go about resigning when it’s time.

Hey coaches looking for some advice on how to go about resigning. I am an assistant coach at a smaller school with a small staff. We have a couple games left in the season, and I have decided it is time for me to step away. The lack of culture and discipline has made this season a very frustrating one. Accountability for players and coaches has not been where I believe it should be, and after a few conversations with the HC nothing has improved. It is discouraging to be one of the only coaches trying to maintain a standard when it is not supported by others. I am going to finish out the next two weeks, and then I would like to resign. Do y’all have any advice for this kind of situation? Thanks.

Coaching Advice Calling my first game filling in for OC Saturday. Any advice?

We are young but have been okay on offense. Ive called it before at a much lower level of football but not for a long tkme. The other team is not very good thankfully and we should be able to move the ball. There is a decent chance I can just run zone and bootleg down the field. But obviously I need to prepare for everything. Being meticulous with my play sheet and motions and names. Plan for RZ, blitz, 2 min, opening. Thankfully helmet com has helped. Anyone have any general or specific advice or maybe just stories abt their first time around?
