Discussion Does an improvement in symptoms after electrolytes confirm the diagnosis?

To begin with, I am not asking for a medical advice.

I just noticed that very often they recommend electrolytes for dysautonomia symptoms. Does it mean that improvement in symptoms after drinking electrolytes confirms the diagnosis?

Based on my example: blood tests ok, bp monitor ok, heart ok, vitamins ok. But after taking electrolytes the symptoms seem to be less severe.

AI has its own explanation for that but I wonder what is your reasoning for that topic?

Question Should I be checking my pulse all the time for HR?

I've got IST, but I've also got health anxiety. So like......I'm not quite sure if it's beneficial for me to be checking my pulse all the time, idk if anyone else does? If I need to? Or if maybe it's better to just never check it due to the anxiety?

My doctor kinda diagnosed me and just told me I could use propanolol if i'm uncomfy. But I just always have this need to know if my heart is beating super fast.......? When i have surges or symptoms I've been trying not to check it but then I'm like SHOULD I know my hr? How do u guys do it?

Question Once you start experiencing a symptom do they ever go away again?

One of the multitude of symptoms i have —that just started about a week ago—is that nothing I eat tastes good. Just tastes like cardboard, & I’ve always been a real foodie. I mean it’s nice not to have to worry about my weight all the time, but I want my appetite back! Or at least my taste. Also my vision has been getting blurrier for about the same amount of time, & I read all the time. It may be sad but prob the two things I get the most pleasure from are deteriorating. Any hope of them returning??

Question Is there anyone here who also experiences shortness of breath 24/7? :(

I am a young woman. I don’t smoke or drink. I have never had any chronic illnesses, and my BMI is perfectly fine.

Two months ago, I was suddenly struck by shortness of breath, and it has been with me constantly ever since. I am unable to take a normal breath; I feel a heaviness in my chest and a sensation that I am suffocating.

It gets even worse when I try to perform any activity—walking 50 meters or taking dishes out of the dishwasher feels like running a marathon. I am extremely weak.

Sometimes it gets so bad that I experience tingling all over my face, a tightening in my throat, my fingers contort, and I lose sensation in my legs for 10–15 minutes. ☹️

The worst part, however, is at night. I keep waking up around 3:00 or 4:00 AM feeling like I can’t breathe (even worse than usual), along with dizziness and heart palpitations/tachycardia.

Because of this, I ended up in the hospital. I underwent several tests, including a chest X-ray, a CT scan with contrast, an MRI of the head, a lung scintigraphy, an echocardiogram, a Holter monitor test, and a gastroscopy. Everything came back normal, except for low iron (24) and ferritin (8) levels, as well as tachycardia. My oxygen saturation has been between 94% and 100%.

My spirometry results were also reportedly normal. However, a test performed in a body plethysmography chamber showed parameters bordering on bronchial asthma, so the doctor prescribed Bufomix, to be used twice a day.

I have been using these inhalers for three weeks now, but unfortunately, I don’t feel any improvement.

I don’t know what is wrong with me. ...what to do. I’m terrified—I’m so afraid that I’ll have to struggle with these breathing difficulties for the rest of my life... :(

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, what helped you?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any comments or advice! 🥹💕

Question What exactly is the "October Slide?"

I live in the Midwest, and the weather has fluctuated a lot this October. Around mid- to late this month, I suddenly started dealing with a lot of stuff thrown my way, random adrenaline rushes when trying to keep my eyes closed at night, days with red, achey feet or freezing purple feet instead, various sleep disturbances, depression-like symptoms coming on, a heartbeat feeling too weak at night, even when awake, and sudden motivation collapse. A friend said I might be dealing with the "October slide," yet I see it affects people in various ways, and I am confused

Diagnostic Process What type of dr actually specialises in this condition?

Hey guys. It's been about 7 months the GP has been trying to figure out what's going on with me. We eventually came to the agreement that I've got some kind of 'autonomic disregulation'. But every time she tries to refer me to someone they say "nothing to do with us". Rheumatology, dermatology (that was for the facial flushing), vascular, even cardiology didn't want to see me because I don't have tachycardia on standing. Today I saw a neurologist and thought it would finally be my breakthrough. No such luck. He said "this is not my domain, try cardiology". So I'm just wondering, what type of doctor are you guys actually seeing? Does any medical field deal with this better than others?

I used to be a solid sleeper rarely waking up if ever. Even before diagnosis I saw a change in sleeping patterns and am lucky to get 4-5 hours now. How’s everyone else’s sleep?

Question Talking exhaustion

I’ve had on and off dizziness and out of it feeling with vision issues the last 6 months but mainly what really bothers me is when I’m in a conversation if I talk too long I start to get fatigued and cognitively fatigued as well.

It seems like it’s actually really hard to explain how I feel but it’s like my brain just kinda of shuts down and all of a sudden convo is labored and talking is harder. Eyes immediately feel heavy and only thing that helps is laying down and putting my cpap on. Anyone else?

Question Facial Flushing

So I’ve had facial flushing for about 6-7 years now. It has become more and more frequent. I usually have several episodes in a day. But now, I actually see that the flushing is “permanent” cheeks and nose. Always pinkish and then deeper red during and episode. As I’m writing this I feel the blood vessels on the skin of my nose filling up with blood and just burning. But I’m sitting down on the couch! 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyone else experiencing this kind of “permanent” skin flushing/blushing?

Discussion coffee helps?

hi all, after a tumultuous (non dysautonomia related) few months, I added a morning latte to my day, and I see definite improvements after drinking it. I'm not just talking the normal boost you get from caffeine, but it really helps me with exercise intolerance and orthostatic hypotension too. I add about 6-8oz fairlife lowfat (high protein) milk with a little sweetener so it's not just the plain coffee. I am not a lifelong coffee drinker (started drinking it more regularly the past several months with a break in the middle) and think it's possible that the effect will fade in time. But I'm curious if anyone else sees this. I am also taking in 5-8g Na/day plus wear compression etc.

Support UK people. Proper compression stockings recommendation please

Got some from Amazon but they were a cheap nylon and didn't work at all and were irritating.

Can anyone recommend some good brands that work

Edit- I keep seeing these fancy patterned 'compression' socks advertised on various websites. Are any of them any good?
