Question Footblaster kick pad hit surfaces

• Upvotes

Wondering if anyone can share their experiences with the Footblaster kick pad. It says it includes a #6 hit surface, which they describe as "average feeling." Is that sufficient for 250bpm heel toe, or should I drop the extra 50 bucks on the #1 hit surface?

Hey guys,

Ive been drumming for about 2 months now and i was looking for any advice about my form.

Everyday i do around 30min on the practice pad.

I do 20x 1st and 2nd exercises of stick Control using 90 bpms with 8th notes.

Then i do Dimitri Fantini speed exercises at 80BPM.

What do you guys think i should improve in my form?

Kit Pic All dressed up with mics and a new cymbal

Post image
• Upvotes

Recently got this kit back from my parent’s house after 17 years in storage (now that I have space to put it). Pearl MMX 6-piece kit with an MRX bass drum. All in piano black except the snare which is in natural. Sometimes I do switch out the snare for my Chad Smith snare once in a while. Cymbals are all Zildjian A Custom (16 Projection crash, 10 splash, 20 Ping ride) except the 18 inch crash which is a K Sweet with brilliant finish. Microphones include Shure Beta 52 and 56 for kick and snare, SM-57s for the toms, and Behringer C-2s for the overheads. I have an AKG P220 for an optional room mic that I will start experimenting with soon. Just love looking at this thing even when I can’t play due to sleeping newborn/toddler. My skills are a shadow of what they used to be back when I played every day but hopefully with some time I’ll be worthy of this kit.

First Kit HELP! Gear4Music Mesh Heads

• Upvotes

I’ve just bought my first kit and need to buy mesh heads due to having neighbours with young children. I don’t have much money to spend on heads so I looked at the Gear4Music ones on their website as well as the Remo SilentStrokes. Would the Gear4Music heads sound anywhere near as good as the Remo ones?

Discussion Double bass drumming frustrations

Hi all,

Drummer of 20+ years here who recently started delving into the wonderful world of double-bass drumming. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with my legs "freezing up" during consistent 16th/32nd note runs... It's like my hip flexors just give out.

I think the most ironic part is that I can hit fast BPMs (190+) with no problem using my ankle technique. It's these mid tempos (130-170ish) where I just can't for the life of me get consistent runs without my legs giving out.

My question to you all is, do you recommend I look into other techniques, such as heel-toe? Is there a practice routine that can help me get past this plateau? I see videos of drummers doing single strokes at these mid tempos and I'm just wondering HOW!?

Obviously practice is the #1 answer, but I need to make sure I'm practicing correctly. Any tips/video recommendations would greatly help!

I am all for competition and can only see this as a net good for drummers, however seeing these two talk about this product as if it’s the first of its kind in the market was just dumbfounding to watch.

Help Playing got rusty

So recently I just got back from not being able to drum for about a year and my playing is really rusty. I was able to use a practice pad sometimes but not nearly as much as I wouldve liked so my playing is just bad now compared to last year, any advice for getting back up to snuff?

Question How much do you think it would be to ship these HCS cymbals?

Post image

I’m thinking of mailing these out to someone on this page. I know money can be tight and drum stuff can be very expensive. If anybody is learning on cymbals that don’t sound good at all, these are not the worst. 16 inch crash, 20 inch ride and a set of 14 inch hats. Thanks.

Feedback Wanted Homemade Kick Cahoon - made from 3/4 and 1/8th inch plywood.

This is my homemade kick cahoon. I made it with 3/4 inch and 1/8th inch plywood. I have inlaid stained glass with 1/8 inch plywood appliques to make the shapes and letters pop more. I also put a strobe that fires on the beat inside the drum, so it flashes various colors on my kick. What do you think about it? Thanks.

Question Practice Pad Kit Recs

Looking for some recs for a practice pad kit that could serve to keep the hands hot when not in the studio or rehearsal space and/or potentially come on regional tour runs with me.

Something cost effective is ideal as I don’t need any specific features other than it not taking up a ton of space. I don’t even need a kick pad however it would be great to have.

To clarify I do not mean electric kits of any kind. Just practice pad kit arrangements.

First Kit HELP! Indent on my snare

Post image
1 Upvotes

I don't know if somebody has already made a post like this)

There is an indent on my snare (If I remember correctly I think it's called the drum head or the drum cover? I don't know, sorry!).

I haven't tuned my drums properly in quite a while (school) and a few nights ago I wanted to practice paradiddle. I accidentally knocked my snare off of the stand and thought, "No big deal, I'll just put it back on." I put it back and then practiced my paradiddle. I went to look at my drumset this morning and saw the indent.

Question Recommendations for my second acoustic kit?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I’ve been playing drums for almost two years now, on a Ludwig Questlove Breakbeats kit. So this will be my first “real” kit. I’m pretty committed to getting better but to do so I’d need a new kit. I’ve found some deals at local drum stores and Guitar Center. A TAMA Rockstar 7 pc kit for $500, a Tama Superstar 4 Peice kit for $624, a Pearl Masters 4 pc for $1000, and a Yamaha Stage custom birch 5 pc for $930. All of these are shell packs with no snare. (The rockstar has a little hardware like a tom mount) I’m looking for a versatile kit but mainly want something punchy, and something I can expand to my liking without spending a million dollars on a new tom. I might sell the questlove if I buy something over $750. I also have two Sabian B8 cymbals I think I can sell for around $80. Any kit other kit recommendations? My budget is no higher than 1,050. And I know to buy used.
(Masters sold already)

Play-Along Drum Play-Along Challenge #1: Record your take on this drumless track

I’m starting a weekly play-along challenge. Everyone plays over the same drumless track, then we get to hear how differently we all approach it. A lot of you said in my last post that drumming alone gets boring, so this is a way to play “with” other drummers without needing a band.

The track: https://youtu.be/ahX_GJ5hl2A (110 BPM, has a click to help you stay on time)

How to enter:

  1. Record yourself playing along. Video or just audio both work, phone quality is totally fine, and any skill level is welcome.
  2. Upload it anywhere (YouTube, Instagram, Streamable, etc.).
  3. Drop the link in the comments.

Deadline: Tuesday, November 3

The most upvoted take wins and gets to pick the track for Challenge #2.
