Last time I posted here, everyone said I should add another drum, and an 8” Yamaha stage custom popped up for $80, so I grabbed it! I’m still trying to decide if I want to cut out the bottom heads to do the concert tom thing, or if I like them as-is. Sizes are 8/10/12/13/14/16/18/22/24 plus the two snares, a 14x5.5 Dynasonic and a 14x6.5 Gretsch birch. I’m still working on getting mics on it, I don’t have nearly enough clips and stands for all these toms!

I had a saved search alert on Reverb, and this popped up, and I snagged it almost immediately. $220 and free shipping. I spent an hour cleaning up the cellophane tape around the hole and the tags. Sounds incredible. Don’t let your dreams be dreams.

Killing time this morning I walked into the local music shop and asked if they had any used cymbals and they sold me this. It has a very nice sound. I didn’t know these were a thing. Any knowledge about Armand from this group would be very appreciated.

Was buying this 20” thin crash and happened to see this 18” crash Avedis reissue. Safe to say I bought both. Check your local shops. You never know what gems you can find.

If your RH is hammering off beats is it still RH lead? Cause it don’t feel like it.
Going thru summer footage at the moment.

This year I decided to finally start dusting off my electric kit that's in the basement. And honestly, I kick myself for not doing this so much sooner! I am a multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, bass, percussion) and I had forgotten how much pure joy it is to play drums. I've been working on my chops by mixing technical exercises with just having fun jamming along with songs I love. The practice has paid off and I have definitely seen improvement on my technique. I find it easier to do songs that require some speed and precision, but kind of lacking in groove. What I'm finding challenging but fun now is trying to play along with songs that are non-technically demanding, but it's tougher than it sounds to get the feel right. In my case, some examples would be:
I could have listed a thousand Stones examples actually. Charlie Watts is, for me, such an idiosyncratic player, and so essential to the sound of The Stones. Getting the finesse and dynamics right (he's a pretty laid-back drummer) is tough for a dude like me who loves just beating the shit out of the drums! What are some examples of songs or players that are not technically demanding, but hard to copy for you?

I was a gigging drummer 30ish years ago, and now that I’m an empty nester, my wife has allowed me to have a kit in the garage. My problem is that at 55, drumming is an intense aerobic workout, and I can’t last more than 20 minutes without feeling like I need to call 911. What do other old fart drummers do to build up stamina? I’m afraid the answer is to change the way I approach the kit, but damn it, I want to rock like it’s 1992. Help!

Been working on a lot of technique lately. Is hitting cymbals this way "right"? If seen many people just hitting down on them, some say "swishing" the cymbal is the way to go. Any advice on my technique?

Just upgraded to a red Tama 1st Chair. Ergonomically, it’s top-tier - rock solid for my double pedal work and a lifesaver for my back.
But I’m second-guessing the color. As you can see in the pic, my kit has a dark red striped finish, while the throne is noticeably brighter. Does it look totally out of place, or am I just being an idiot and overthinking a piece of vinyl?

If we're talking a backline kit being provided for a show, we're usually expected to still bring a minimum of throne, pedal, snare, cymbals.
Often the variable may be whether to also supply own hardware i.e. have all cymbals already set up on stands side-stage and in change over just swap the stands out.
Do you personally prefer to do it like this and use your own hardware, keep change over times down, keep own stand settings the same etc? Or do you prefer not to lug own hardware and all use the same even if it means more fiddling and adjustments?

Current price is $500-550 depending on retailer making it cheaper than the EAD10.

This is my homemade kick cahoon. I made it with 3/4 inch and 1/8th inch plywood. I have inlaid stained glass with 1/8 inch plywood appliques to make the shapes and letters pop more. I also put a strobe that fires on the beat inside the drum, so it flashes various colors on my kick. What do you think about it? Thanks.

When the camera pans to Danny behind the kit, you’ll notice he’s playing Offset pedals. First time I’ve actually seen someone playing them, and of course it’s the GOAT.
Awesome version of Invincible, too. That girl has a great voice!

Looking for some recs for a practice pad kit that could serve to keep the hands hot when not in the studio or rehearsal space and/or potentially come on regional tour runs with me.
Something cost effective is ideal as I don’t need any specific features other than it not taking up a ton of space. I don’t even need a kick pad however it would be great to have.
To clarify I do not mean electric kits of any kind. Just practice pad kit arrangements.
