I love lurking and commenting but something that I find frustrating with the fanbase (often on this sub, too) is the way people feel comfortable making broad generalizations about the content of someone’s character.
Not at all defending or a Jenna J /Val Stan by any means (I don’t vote for either couple). but I do find it weird and parasocial when people say how “obvious” it is that certain pros or stars are cocky or that they “know they have it in the bag.” I would argue they’re acting no differently than they have in years past.
I know I’m asking to be downvoted here and don’t condone any of Val’s actual recorded behavior (cultural appropriation + CAI), but I don’t get how people have been so definitive about them being more “overconfident” this year (since before premiere even) from a TV show where the packages are less than 2 minutes long without some level of projection.
Same with Carrie Ann. She can come off as a lot, but she has barely 10 seconds to talk, I’m sure it’s not easy to perfectly curate what you’re saying in that time.
Also, performance in ballroom and Latin has a level of confidence that could be perceived as arrogance if that’s what you want it to be. Mark talked about this on call her daddy with Whitney last year - he described her ability to perform as a “get some” quality that you can’t really teach.
People called Whitney and mark egotistical all last year and I never understood where that came from either. It’s TV. They’re hamming it up for a camera. How could you know how nice or grateful someone is just from existing.
Anyways TLDR, please consider that you’re talking about real people you don’t know. Feel free to love or hate their work, but ask yourself why you feel confident commenting on someone’s character so freely.
Please understand I’m coming at this in good faith, I really want everyone to have a good time and enjoy the show 😭
