Help / Troubleshooting Intersection modeling workflow ideas
Hi everyone. I’m new to civil3D and have a question.
Would someone be able to recommend a workflow for creating intersections? I always run into trouble when modeling them. It’s frustrating.
The one I’m currently working on is a T intersection, but the side road turns directly after the intersection. In addition to this, the right hand lane on the side road needs to initially be 6 extra feet wide(18ft total) and then taper back down to a regular 12ft lane, as this is an intersection busses will be going through often.
I’ll actually draw up a picture of the basic geometry of the intersection to attach to this post.
I often run into problems making the curb return profile matching up with the offset alignment profiles. Is that because offset profiles don’t automatically take into account any type of lane slope changes such as superelevation?
Another big problem is the lane widening part. I don’t want it to be linear. As seen in the picture, it’s a sudden/sharp taper instead of being smooth. In addition to that, due to the side road being curved and the taper being linear, that right hand lane actually ends up going from the 18ft, LESS than 12 ft, then back up to 12 ft. This is obviously incorrect but I’m not sure how to fix it.
If anyone could offer some general guidance for this type of intersection modeling, that would be awesome.
