Cat Picture - OC Message of the day
Delivery driver here. Recently I came across a video of an Amazon delivery driver throwing a package at a house cat for no reason while on the job. The video disturbed me. It disturbed my wife, who was also a part time delivery driver at one point. It was disgusting and a disgrace of human etiquette. I deliver in a town south of Dallas, and this town is home to dozens possibly around 200 if I had to count of cats and kittens. Both domestic and strays. I never miss them. Some are shy, some I have to call, some run straight to me and roll over. Many customers even offer them to me for adoption, which I reluctantly refuse. Many of them I take pictures of and send them to my wife. I always pet them when I get the chance so much so my cats at home freak out over the unfamiliar scent. I used to bring cans of wet food and give some out at certain houses and the homeowners never breathed a single complaint. Earlier this year I rescued a kitten in a parking lot a day before the snow storm hit and we kept her at home until she passed away a week later from a respiratory infection. One of my current cats, Sal, is another orange stray that we have taken care of since February and heās been a sweet boy joined by his adopted brother and sister, Teddy and Salem.
Cats are extraordinary creatures and Iāve seen nothing but pure love and joy from them. Some are born in survival and others are born in a home. We should never treat such majestic beings with cruelty. That goes not only for cats but for all animals.
The last picture is Sal, the stray we had given a home.

Advice Cat wonāt stop biting me IT HURTS SO BADDD š
Hi so Iām a first time cat parent, and my cat is 12 weeks old! We rescued him, and unfortunately werenāt able to get another cat. I know heās 12 weeks and biting is to be expected, but itās to the point heās drawing blood and I canāt walk or do anything or sleep without him biting my eye or face. I have so many bite marks š (I also do not ever and have never played with my hands with him)
Iāll not even be moving and heāll bite me, or heāll ask to be held by climbing on me and meowing and if I do much as try to assist him he will bite me. Itās to the point itās very hard to be in the room with him bc heāll go after me š yāall PLS tell me what Iām doing wrong bc I know this is absolutely not his fault! Iāve tried the high pitched yelp to tell him it hurts, it doesnāt really work well it makes him bite harder, I was so desperate I hissed at him and it did work for some time but then one day he stopped listening to it.
I play with him every single day especially before meals and I feed him around 5 times a day, so 30 minutes to 40 each time sometimes an hour if I have time. But idk man idk what Iām doing wronggg š I love him so much I genuinely just wanna know what I can do.

Advice Stray cat wants to be adopted, in the local TnR program
Okay, so I have this stray in my neighborhood. She is beautiful. Over the past year she has became very sociable. But despite the cat distribution system trying, I am unable to adopt a cat. Her ear is clip, which is my local area TnR program sign. ( tag and relase, they catch fix, relase and adopt out cats and kittens. ) well I haven't heard of a cat being relased being adopted out by the program. But I never heard someone unable to take in a cat like this. This is someone's dream cat. But I am unable to take her in. My cats are not nice and I am close to moving. Would it be okay to report this to the program? Would they do anything with this information? Would they be able to adopt her out? I could catch her for the group, shoot she would most likely walk into the carrier. But has anyone volunteer for these groups know what happen to situations like this? Any advice helps. I attached her photo for the cat tax.

Medical Questions Any recommendations on arthritis relief?
Hi everyone! My cat has major arthritis, she is limping really bad and can't jump up that much anymore. We used Solensia but she had a major reaction to it. Was hoping to hear from others who have used something other than Solensia which have helped with pain? I'm guessing she will have to be on it for the rest of her life.

Advice fleas are immortal
hellooo ~ i have had a pretty rough flea infestation for about 2 months now. in this time, my cats have received topical flea treatments, iāve been frequently washing things, iāve used DE, flea and tick sprays, done comb throughs, and frequently vacuumed. the only thing i havenāt done, because iām struggling to figure out the logistics, is fogging. i have also used capstar and am considering getting my cats on bravecto again, but i can not realistically afford 2 separate vet visits + prescription med right now š«©
is there any products youāve used that have surefire gotten rid of fleas in a timely manner? me and one of my cats are allergic to the dander and bites. i am miserable in my own home.

Advice My cat had to be put down because of the panleukopenia virus š was this the right call?
This Saturday the 25th we brought home this 2 month old kitten from a local cat shelter. He had received the vaccines a baby that small can get and was given a dewormer, bath, was checked for fleas etc. This cat shelter is independently owned and known for taking great care of their cats before they eventually get adopted. He was dropped off at the shelter Saturday morning after being found abandoned at a bus stop. Once he was in the clear we took him home later that evening.
Right away we noticed he wasnāt acting like the typical ākittenā. Wasnāt ravenous for food, not playing much, and sleeping a lot. That first day we chopped it up to him being exhausted from the crazy hectic day he had and sometimes this just a typical response to getting vaccines. Sunday it didnāt get better. And Monday it was worse. He was pooping and peeing but it seemed he was only getting increasingly more lethargic, sleeping all day, and completely uninterested in food. Monday morning I call the vet and see if I can get him in because I could obviously sense something was up. The vet says heās decently alert, weighs 2.34lbs, and his gums looked decently hydrated. They tested his blood and the vet came back saying that although some levels were good, his white and red blood cells were very low. The vet tells me that he is anemic and given the behavior he had been exhibiting at home, there is a chance he could have panleukopnia. She mentions that if he has this the chance of survival in a cat this small is typically pretty low and he would require intensive medical care and hospitalization. As I hold back tears, she explains to me the rules of the appetite stimulant and antibiotic they gave me. I schedule a checkup appointment for this upcoming Thursday, leave the vet, give him the medicine and take him home to rest.
My mom calls and tells me she has an in at an emergency vet later that same day where they will be able to do more rapid tests and test a fecal sample to see if he in fact has this virus. Of course my worst nightmare comes true and I get the call from my mom saying he tested positive for this virus as well as worms. They also test his blood again and tell us both his white and red blood cells are still dangerously low. The emergency vet tells us how contagious and deadly this virus is and basically explains that it could take up to 1-3 YEARS of intensive treatment and constant monitoring with still no guaranteed chance of survival. They also said that since his white blood cell count was so low the odds of this treatment working would probably be slim. Another huge factor in this whole thing is that we have a 2 year old and 16 year old cat back at home. Even though our cats are up to date on their vaccines (thank god) and he was quarantined in our bathroom when he was at our house, they advised it could be risky bringing him back home and that shelters wouldnāt be able to take him back since itās such a huge risk to other kitties. Unfortunately with all the odds stacked against us, we had to make the really hard decision of putting him down. The vet agreed that if this was their pet as sad as it is, that they would do the same. They took the cat carrier we brought him in and put it in a biohazard bag to be disposed of, and we were advised to sanitize/disinfect everything he came in contact with with this special spray and to basically triple wash all of our clothes that touched him. They also advised we donāt get another cat for up to a year.
Part of me just canāt shake the feeling of how guilty I feel for putting him down. Should we have waited longer and gave it a few more days to see if the antibiotics and overnight hospitalization wouldāve worked? Would it have ever been safe to have him around the cats we already have at home? Would keeping him alive just prolong his suffering given how low his white blood cell count was and how hard his little body was fighting to stay alive? Was he doomed from the start and we helped put him out of his misery? Why keep a cat alive for my own selfish gain if his quality of life wouldāve been shot by this disease? Even though the vet said they would make that same decision Iām just thinking of all the what ifs in my head and spiraling so bad. Did we end a cats life that couldāve bounced back from this?
I guess Iām just posting this here to see if anyone could make me feel better for making the decision to put him down and if you wouldāve done the same if this was your cat you just adopted and were introducing to your family (with two existing cats). This virus is just so awful and scary and Iām having a hard time wrapping my brain around everything that has happened the past few days. Saturday I was so excited about having a new baby brother, and now Monday night he has been put to sleep and Iām questioning every move Iāve made.
Part of me takes pride in knowing we were able to give him a comfy spot/loving home to spend his final two days after being in survival mode basically his whole life, but god it just sucks. Ive been lucky enough to where all my cats that Iāve had in the past have lived to be teenagers. When helping them cross the rainbow bridge, I am to reflect on the long beautiful lives theyāve lived. This experience is just all so new to me because he was only two months old and I canāt stop thinking about how awesome his life couldāve been if it werenāt for this terrible virus. I so badly wish he couldāve lived the long fruitful life he deserved but I feel like he was doomed from the start š Please let me know if you think my family made the right decision in this situation and if you wouldāve done the same š„¹

Cat Picture - OC Joey and his best friend
Seeing so many beloved cats on here motivated me to share my own.
This is Joey Wheeler (the kitten) and Jakabok (the one sleeping)! You get five points if you can guess where Jakabok got his name. Hint: it's from a novel! You also get a point if you know Joey's namesake.
These guys are two of my three cats. Jakabok was found near a dumpster in a small town just before a snowstorm when he was a kitten. Joey was found in the middle of a very busy road (!!!!) on a very hot day in the Southwest. When I and a stranger pulled over to snag him, he ran past me and hid under my car, before climbing into the engine and hiding there. Took about 40 or so minutes to get him out, only for him to go back into the car! This time he slipped into the spare tire. Another helpful stranger helped us jack the car up just enough to pull him out. He's still jumpy but he's adjusted to myself and my partner, and as you can see, he loves Jakabok so much! Jakabok will groom him sometimes and it's the sweetest thing in the world. Finding him worked out so well because Jakabok loves bothering our other cat, Akira, not pictured (Five more points if you can guess her namesake. Hint: It is from an anime but it isn't from the film of the same name.), who is older and doesn't really enjoy playing.
Now he's got baby Joey to keep him company and Akira doesn't have to deal with his nonsense!

Stories For those who adopted their cat, how did you know they were the one?
Today I went and met some shelter cats. They were all so lovely and sweet that I wish I could take them all, but that just isnāt possible. So, tomorrow morning Iām going back and Iām fully intent on making a decision. I have a vague idea of what Iām looking for in a cat, namely an adult cat that thrives best in a single cat home, but Iād love to hear stories about what made you decide to adopt your feline friends!
